Quiet neighborhood. Cute "grandma" home with plenty of room. Full kitchen with standard small appliances. The lake view sunroom is the favored spot, and has a futon and a door for night time privacy. We have a comfortable dining room and sizable living room with another futon. The two bedrooms are calming and peaceful; one with a Lake (and sunrise!) view, the other overlooks the rock garden. We have a large yard for playing Bocce Ball in or enjoying campfires. We are off a quiet paved road that's perfect for rollerblading, strolling, jogging or a short bike ride. You can store bikes, skis, etc in the basement, or in a minimally secure front porch. We are just 5 miles from Two Harbors with a good grocery store, gifts, crafts, restaurants, swim beach, breakwater, lighthouse, and a micro-brewery. The Superior Hiking Trail is nearby, as well as Gooseberry Falls Park, Splitrock Lighthouse, Tettegouche State Park, Grand Marais, and Duluth. Grandma's Marathon starts just a short jog away, and for skiers there are Spirit Mountain and Lutsen not too far away, as well as some 4-wheeler and snowmobile trails. Two Harbors is one of the checkpoints in the John Beargrease annual sled dog marathon. Two boat launches are nearby for our fishermen and women, as well as fishing charters. Lake access (some with swimming) is at several places a short drive away (please know there is NO lake access from the property, or in walking distance). Our driveway can accommodate multiple vehicles, and/or a small trailer. We are open year-round for your pleasure and relaxation- come for our comfortable summers and beautiful winters!

About Julie and Martin Anderson
We are life-long Minnesotans in our early 60's. We have 5 grown children, 4 of whom are married, and we have 7 grandchildren. Our youngest just graduated from college, so, no more tuition payments- yay! I love gardening, and Marty loves hunting and fishing. We have a darling, spoiled rotten, Coonhound that we adore, chickens and ducks that Marty tolerates, and a cat that adores us (it's mutual).
Julie and Martin Anderson purchased this House in 2008
Why Julie and Martin Anderson chose Lake No. 2
We would drive through here fairly often going to Lutsen, or to go hiking at Gooseberry Falls. The summers here generally have low humidity, and few bugs (at least compared to southern Minnesota!). We had stayed in Two Harbors many times, and enjoyed it, so, when Marty sold his business, we decided to buy a vacation place here, and found this little home, with a pretty yard and a really nice view. Our first winter traveling back and forth and staying a lot was surprisingly easy and pleasant- many times it was warmer here than in southern Minnesota (I was amazed). And Lake Superior very seldom freezes over, so we had lovely lake views pretty much all year- not like the lake at our main home- it looked like a snow- covered field all winter. After we decided that we loved it here ALL year, I found another nearby property that is up the hill and has a high view of the Lake- the higher the better for me! It is more private, and Marty could have his pole barn, and I, my critters- I do worry about my rooster disturbing my neighbors, though... He was supposed to be a layer... All our neighbors at both houses are around our ages, so we're a pretty quiet lot, and hope our renters want that kind of atmosphere, too. With retirement and the cost of maintaining 2 homes (sold the main home 3 years ago), we struggled with what to do with the "little house". We sure didn't want to sell it- and even though the "investment" part of our buying decision kind of crashed with real estate prices, our family- and friends- really enjoy the house and area. So, to try and keep the little house, but stop the money drain, we jumped through the licensing hoops- and there are a LOT of them- and are finally ready to to open the door to our renters. Perhaps some will become new friends... But at the least, I hope, you will all be pleased!
What makes this House unique
It was just a cute little "grandma" home, with that peek of the lake that one gets driving by. It was owned by a grandma, who had passed away a couple years before we bought it from her daughter. I love the knee walls in the upstairs- kind of like the "sparest of spare bedrooms" thoughts from Anne of Green Gables. The cedars in the front yard are lovely- I don't have any like those up the hill. I love the stairway that goes between them. I built the rock wall there, and met many nice folks while doing so- my new neighbors, and lots of resort folks out walking. I even got a bit of a nickname- the Rock-Lady! The sun shining on the lake in the morning, and having coffee with my sweetie in the front sunroom and enjoying that together, is just so wonderful to me. As well as the late afternoon sun coming through the windows- it seems to color the very air. I really enjoy jumping on my bike after a hard day's work and taking a leisurely little ride on the paved surface... The road doesn't have that much car traffic, and it's just refreshing- and easier than on the gravel... If I'm feeling more energetic, I go onto the gravel, to the end of Old North Shore Road and back, altogether about an hour's ride at my pace. No loading up bikes, driving, parking... love it! I find the summer heat and humidity is largely absent here. As of this writing (7/15), we've had a fair amount of high 80's and humidity a lot of July, but still MUCH better than even a little ways south of us. Great for the melons I'm trying to grow, but hard on my gardener's body. We're usually in the 70's during the day, and can be a lot cooler at night. In the 7 years we've been here, not one tornado warning- I like that, because I'm a chicken...

Excellent Place for Family Getaway
This was a fantastic property for our family vacation. We had a party of 8, which included 6 adults and 2 children (5 months old and 5 years old). Typically, we stay in a hotel, which often means we have to cut our visits short because the kids need to go down for bed, and we're all staying in separate spaces. This experience changed the way we will vacation from now on. All of us slept very comfortably and we were able to enjoy each other's company after the kids went down for bed while still having the option of escaping to our own private space. The location is great for easy access to Duluth and Gooseberry Falls. The property itself has a lovely view of the lake and a large back yard where our 5 year old loved running around and exploring. There was also a nice fire pit with firewood and tools, of which we made good use after a full day of hiking. I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail regarding the amenities. The house was fully stocked, and each of us even had our own hook for our bath towels. There were also empty dressers and closets where we could unpack our suitcases. Additionally, I had mentioned that we would be traveling with a baby, and the property owner set out a high chair for us to use during our stay. The sunroom had a door that could be closed for privacy and a futon that was quite comfortable for my parents, both of whom have bad backs. They enjoyed having this room for the first-floor accommodations and waking up to the sunrise over the lake. The property owner was very helpful for ideas about what we could do during our stay. Once we returned home, she notified me that I had left my hair dryer and brush under the cabinet. She promptly shipped them back to me and simply deducted the shipping from our damage deposit. We will definitely be staying at this property again. It was wonderful all around from location, to the property itself, to working with the property owner. It is rare that a place can provide good accommodations for an entire party of guests across the life span, but this place did it beautifully.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful review! I'm so glad your family enjoyed our place. I really appreciate the detail you gave about the things you liked; my husband thought that I went a bit overboard with the hooks in the bathroom, but where do people put all the wet towels when they have a large group? We hope to add to the amenities, and would love to have your family back... Do you snowmobile?
Cozy cabin with all you need to tour the north shore.
Very comfortable and well located home with everything you need. Stayed with our 3 adult children and there was plenty of room for each of them to have their own bed. Fire pit in expansive yard was a nice touch. Hiking and excellent dining and craft breweries very nearby. Linens and bedding provided were great as was the Weber grill and fully stocked kitchen.
Great Weekend Getaway
We had a great time at the Anderson House. It was a quick drive up from Minneapolis. We spent the weekend hiking in the local state parks not far away and enjoyed some beer at the Castle Danger Brewery in Two Harbors. Lots of fun games to play at the house.
Cute home with lots of charm!
We absolutely loved staying in their home! It was so cute and was everything we expected. The owners were very accommodating for our bunch and hope to stay again! Thank you for everything!
We were so glad to have your family! We are always happy when our guests are- please do come back- it's usually comfortable in the summer here for outings 😀!
Beautiful Christmas on the North shore!
House is obviously very well-maintained and was spotless!
No wi-fi was an issue for my daughter. For me, not sure I would rent again in Winter due to lack of fireplace or wood stove.
Loved the location! Up North feel but still close to Duluth.
It is always great to have guests stay over holidays! I would love to add a gas stove for our renters- it is in my hopes/plans for the next year or so. Wifi will probably never be available, though, because we have one (expensive) provider choice, and the service is used very little in the off season times.
We would enjoy having your family back again- and hopefully- warming yourselves in front of a fire!
Thanks again for staying with us.
Beautiful higher view of the lake, clean cozy house, room to roam in large lawn, and great fire pit!
Julie and Marty were very hospitable towards our family. They had a small table and chairs and a highchair ready to go in the kitchen for our young crew and a wagon for us to take on walks. We made good use of the fire pit and enjoyed burning wood while listening to the waves crash in to the shore below.
We enjoyed delicious pizza takeout from North Shore Pizza and had a wonderful brunch at the Vanilla Bean (large portions and great tasting food). We made the short drive to Gooseberry Falls and enjoyed walking the trails around the falls with the late-Fall low traffic crowd.
The morning we left Marty called to fill us in on the weather and road conditions (slick roads and a storm that ended up dumping over 10 inches of snow in Duluth).
Their care for the property and desire to see guests enjoy a safe and relaxing stay was evident with each interaction and around every corner in the house.
I would highly recommend this cozy Grandma's house to anyone wanting to get away for some R&R on the North Shore.
We were pleased to have your family stay with us this fall, and are so glad you had a good time. It's a pleasure to rent to families like yours that really enjoy our place, and your little ones were very easy on the house- barely a patty-print on a window! Thanks for the wonderful review, and please come again!
