About Danielle Rosellison
I moved to Orcas Island when I was ten years old and graduated high school on the island in 1998. Like many Island Girls, I wanted to get as far away as possible and went to school in Chicago for a few years. By the time I was 20, I figured family was a little more important than I thought it was and I moved back to the Pacific Northwest, specifically Bellingham where I've been since.
Danielle Rosellison purchased this Cabin in 1991
Why Danielle Rosellison chose Orcas
My parents bought this property to get away from city living in 1991. My brother and I recently inherited the 8.5 acres and, due to it's magic, look forward to it being a place of peace for generations to come.

Orcas Weekend Getaway
The property was simply stunning and equally serene. We enjoyed having a full kitchen to make dinners and a cozy outdoor fireplace to relax next to in the evening. Extra linens and towels were provided as well as firewood for the indoor fireplace. One evening we enjoyed the hot tub as we gazed at the stars above. I would recommend this to a small group or couple looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city or those looking to explore the pristine landscape of the PNW. Danielle was a lovely host and communicator. Thanks for the peaceful weekend at The Roost!
The peacefulness and location of the property were ideal. It was just what we needed for a relaxing weekend away from the city. We enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and hot tub and loved having the ability to make our own meals in the fully equipped kitchen. It was just a short drive into town (about 15 minutes) where we enjoyed great food and a bit of local shopping. I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking to explore the beauty of the Pacific Northwest! We will definitely be back.
Perfect hideaway on Orcas Island
We spent two nights at The Roost in April 2019, and could not have asked for a better stay. The space is beautifully unique and cozy. We absolutely loved cooking with the wood-burning range (although it does take some extra time) and felt very much at home at this lovely wooded retreat. Guests should be aware that there is little cell service, and the WiFi is not particularly strong -- this made for a perfect few days to disconnect from our otherwise fast-paced life! There are lots of spaces inside and out to enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings and an extensive DVD collection for those who prefer to watch a movie. The kitchen was also well-stocked with essentials to accommodate cooking meals. We would 110% return to the Roost.
The cabin is so calming and beautiful, I cant wait to go back
My dream cabin
Such a charming and comfortable space. A amazing place to cozy up, turn off the phones and computers, and just be present in the moment. And of course, Polly is the sweetest "house dog" you could ever encounter. My two kiddos fell in love. We're already looking forward to going back. Highly recommended.
The Roost on Orcas
nice, clean, quiet, unique stay on the island. liked the frogs singing at night and the deer & bunnies wandering around the property.
Orcas Island is a magical place; the feeling of serenity will overwhelm you as soon as you get off the ferry (if the ferry ride hadn’t done it already). With not much open after 9pm and no stop lights on the island, come expecting the true meaning of “island time”. This is a place to relax, re-center yourself and get back to a simplistic lifestyle while enjoying nature.
I would encourage people to do as little as possible while on the island: walk, read, sit. However, if you want to “do things” on your vacation there is plenty to do on our small island. Water activities including whale watching, kayaking, or sailing are common attractions. You can also walk onto the ferry to Friday Harbor, San Juan Island for free. The main town is right at the ferry dock and offers shopping, restaurants and “town” activities.
Moran State Park is approximately a 35 min drive away offering: Mount Constitution, the highest point in the San Juan Islands with breathtaking views, Cascade Lake for swimming, a playground and renting paddle boats, and Mountain Lake, an easy, flat 4 mile loop hike.
To know the best things on the island, ask any working islander (cashier, server, etc.). They’ll happily tell you the latest and the greatest!!
