a lovely cabin in the Icelandic woods
If you are looking for a remote spot to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights this is the spot. The cabin is cozy and warm and offers plenty of modern conveniences. It is tucked into a wooded hillside 15 km from the lights of Borgarnes. We visited local sights during the days and enjoyed the cabin's hot tub in the evenings. The owners were very helpful with suggestions for restaurants and activities. They also met us at the cabin on our first day to show us how everything worked.
Thank you Matt for your warm comments on your stay in Iceland.
Close by is Reykholt, the historic habitat of celebrated 12th century writer and politician Snorri Sturlusson. Snorri authored and documented most of the Iceland sagas, and is best known for his works Snorra Edda and Heimskringla. By his ancient homestead is Snorrastofa, a center for medieval and cultural studies, which offers an exhibition on the life and times of Snorri and his contemporaries as well as tours and lectures in several languages.
For spelunking enthusiasts the world-renown cave Víðgelmir is located in a nearby lava field about a 45 minute drive from the lodge. Víðgelmir is Iceland's largest cave and contains various fascinating mineral and ice formations.
A mere 20 minutes away you will find the newly opened geothermal spa Krauma. Water for the pools is sourced from the powerful hot spring Deildartunguhver.
