About Julie Chan
You are hosted by friendly and hospitable Julie Chan, originally from Malaysia but proud to be a Wellingtonian and have lived in Brooklyn for 30 years. Love travelling both locally and overseas and food are her passion. She will make your stay in Wellington an enjoyable one.
Julie Chan purchased this Studio in 1992
Why Julie Chan chose Brooklyn
Brooklyn is one of the coolest suburb of Wellington. The panoramic view is so captivating that we bought the land and built a home on it. We love the quiet neighbourhood , the reserve is just at our back door and the closeness to the city. Wellington is dubbed the "The coolest little capital in the world" by Lonely Planet. It merges big city culture with small town charm. It is celebrated as New Zealand’s arts, film, coffee, culinary, craft beer, events and political capital.
What makes this Studio unique
From the bay window, you can relax and enjoy the lavender bush and stunning view of the Wellington Harbour. Plenty of free on-street parking is available. The bus stop is just 7 minutes (500m) walk away and the buses to the city operate 7 days a week. A 25 minute walk to the city through the Central Park is invigorating. The Polhill Reserve and the wind turbine just at our back door. It is just 1 minute (68m) walk to the entrance. A less than 5 minutes’ drive to enjoy either eat-your-heart-out at the best eateries in town, a movie at the Penthouse Cinema, a game of tennis at the Renouf Golf Centre or for a game of out-of-this-world mini golf at Calucci Land, a unique Wellington landmark with remarkable artworks.

The place was so lovely. Wonderfully clean and the hospitality was fantastic. The welcome was warm and very generous anything extra need or want to know you just need to ask.
Thank you so much Christina for your review which I am very grateful for. Take care and God bless,
Wonderful view and handy for the bus
A comfoftable apartment with a great view over Wellington Harbour. Compact and well equiped with a comfortable bed. 5 minutes walk to the bus into the centre of the city.
Thank you for your review. Hope you continue with an enjoyable holiday in New Zealand.
Clean & comfortable with a great view
We stayed at Julie’s studio for a couple of nights and were very pleased with our choice. We had opted to stay out of the city centre for the first time and were happy we had done so. No parking charges and a really different impression of Wellington were our rewards.
Julie was incredibly welcoming & friendly on our arrival, showing us around the studio & pointing out useful tips. Tea, coffee & milk were provided along with the necessities for making ourselves a simple meal if we wished (which we didn’t, we ate out). The studio was very roomy & the shower was amazing, easy to get to the right temperature & good pressure.
The studio was very easy to find; just follow signs for Brooklyn & then to the wind turbine. The studio is the first property on the right after the access road to the turbine. The wind turbine itself is worth a visit for more fabulous panoramic views and you can choose whether to walk or drive up.
If we go back to Wellington under the same circumstances (i.e with a car rather than flying in; although it is very close to a bus route so would be ok without a car too I’d imagine) we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Thanks Julie.
I am very grateful for your 5* review. Indeed it has been a great pleasure to make both of your stay a comfortable and memorable one. I hope to see you again. Thank you for the review and for being great guests.
A lovely self-contained apartment, very clean and comfortable
We really enjoyed our stay here. Opening the doors in the morning we were rewarded with a magnificent view of the city. And it's very convenient as it is close to shops and even the city. We parked at the bottom of the hill (free parking on weekends! Great tip from Julie) and meandered our way through Cuba Mall to Te Papa. Pauline and Julie are amazing hosts and are a fount of knowledge about where to eat and where to go. Really a good home away from home stay.
Dear Wai Yong,
Thank you so much for your encouraging review. It is great to know you find the studio a home away from your own home. We will continue to enhance the experience of our guests. We hope you will stay again with us on your next visit to Wellington.
Cosy & Private Studio
Upon our arrival Julie greeted us and showed us to our studio, which has a private entrance. A very warm welcome from the owner. Julie & Pauline were very kind to drive us around Wellington over the weekend for a brief tour of the city and showed us how to get around on our own. They also guided us with all the bus routes and mobile apps that will be useful during our stay. They also took the liberty to drive us into town and showed us the best eateries. Since we arrived late, the following day, Julie drove us into town to help us purchase our necessities. Julie & Pauline had also taken the effort to cook my favorite Malaysian cuisine, baked me a birthday cake and gave me a surprise birthday party at their home. Something, I never imagined will happen, especially when one is only a Home Away Guest.
During our stay, my friend had a bad cough and cold, Julie & Pauline was so kind and concern and had offered to take my friend to the doctor's. They also provided us with useful tips (do's and don't's), that will help us avoid falling sick as it was our first visit in New Zealand. They were very concern with my friend's health and checked on us every now and then. As I had forgotten to carry along a warm jacket, Julie was kind enough to provide me with one for the duration of our stay. Its easy to write a review about the owners but one has to stay and experience their warm hospitality. The studio is very private with separate entrance, all the required amenities are provided, good heating, wonderful view and the fragrance of lavender as soon as you step out. For first timers in New Zealand, my friend & I are very grateful to God for helping us choose the right accommodation for our stay. Syabas! Julie & Pauline. I wish you both the very best of Health & Prosperity. God Bless.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, VERY CLEAN AND WARM HOSPITALITY.
OWNER IS ALL WILLING TO HELP & GUIDE ANYTIME.
Hi Chris, we are very humbled and thrilled to receive your review. We enjoyed having you and Naveen. All the very best for the future and may the Lord continue to bless and keep you healthy and safe.

Made to feel welcome
Julie welcomed my daughter and I as if we were old friends, she is a wonderfully warm and caring person who really makes you feel important and special.
The little studio is so cute, and everything is supplied! The view from the bay window is stunning, and the wee lavender garden was a pleasure to behold.
We met Pauline as we were leaving and she too seems to be such a precious lady.
We found the best idea for anyone who isn't very confident navigating the roads is just to park your car up on the roadside, and order a taxi, uber or ride the bus. We had a ball! Thank you ladies, you are a blessing.
Thank you Sarah for such an awesome review. Your advice on transport will be extremely helpful to my futures guests. We will continue to enhance the studio to make each stay better for our guests. We hope to see you again in the future. God bless, Julie
Enjoy the great outdoors which is just steps away from the studio. The studio's closest neighbour is the George Denton Park and Polhill Reserve which has many walking tracks. One which leads to the Brooklyn Wind turbine which is a 1.45 km (approximately 30 minutes’ walk) hike. After a short walk up the wind turbine trail, you’ll already start to enjoy scenic views of Wellington City and Wellington suburbs. Just remember to stop and look behind you and to your right when walking up the track.
