Why MIKE MAYFIELD/KENNETH MAYFIELD/DOUG MAYFIELD chose Forest Lakes
PICKED THIS PROPERTY TO BUY WHEN IT WAS VACANT AND DESIGNED AND HAD JIM BARNA LOG HOMES BUILD THIS STRUCTURE. IT IS BUILT INTO THE MOUNTAIN. THE NORTH AND WEST WALLS ARE CONCRETE AND THUS THE FIRST FLOOR IS ALWAYS COOL. WHEN MANY BUILDERS LOOKED AT THIS PROPERTY AFTER WE BOUGHT IT THEY TOLD US THE FIRST THING TO DO IS SELL IT BECAUSE IT IS TOO HIGH AND STEEP TO BUILD ON. WE HAD TO BLAST OUR DRIVEWAY IN. YOU BE THE JUDGE.
What makes this Cabin unique
THIS IS A COMPLETELY LOG STRUCTURE EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST FLOOR AND THE VIEWS ARE AMAZING OFF OF THE DECKS. WHILE THE BOTTOM OF THE MOUNTAIN IS QUITE POPULATED NOW, UP WHERE WE ARE IS STILL COMPARATIVELY MUCH LESS POPULATED. WE WANTED A LOG CABIN IN THE MOUNTAINS AND WE BELIEVE WE ACHIEVED IT. BUT, YOU DECIDE.

Beautiful, quiet retreat
Beautiful log home fully equipped with all the amnesties you could need. Our party of 9 fit comfortably with plenty of room for us all. The owner Mike was more than helpful even offering suggestions of things to do nearby. We especially enjoyed the large deck with breathtaking views and lots of hummingbirds to watch. The driveway was not an issue for us but we all drove SUV’s. The only drawback to this cabin would be it’s proximity to Durango. We spent alot of time in the car.
Beautiful, clean , well kept
Cabin was very clean and accommodating. Owners were easy to work with and answered any questions in a timely manner. Driveway was very steep, but we made it up.
Super nice cabin!
We loved this place. Roomy and had a beautiful view. The driveway is a bit steep but we were able to get up it and plenty of room for 3-4 cars. The area is really nice and we enjoyed river rafting and horseback riding. Owner, Mike, was very responsive regarding our stay.
Enough room for all of us, views are AWESOME!!
Great cabin that comfortably fit 3 families
Love the 3 levels with 5 bedrooms. Driveway is very steep and was relieved we didn't have to travel up it in snow. Deer everywhere outside the cabin every morning and owner was great to work with. Wish they had more pictures of the cabin in the listing but it worked great for our families.
Great place! Had everything we needed and more!
We booked this short notice but they were able to accommodate us and have everything ready. Very nice and owners were helpful in supplying info about the town. We would definitely stay again!
Nestled at 8500' in the San Juan Mountains twenty miles outside of Durango where there are great restaurants, shops and the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train, you can hike around the cabin and view Lake Vallicito, the third largest manmade lake in CO. Vallicito Lake is only a short drive where you can drive around the lake as well as fish, or drive the San Juan Skyway and see the million dollar highway views or visit Mesa Verde National Park, the ruins of the Pueblo Indians, or visit the four corners area where you can stand in four states at once, or visit historic Pagosa Springs, or the old mining town of Silverton or Ouray, high in the mountains. Rafting at all levels is available as well as horseback riding or mountain bikiing or rent a jeep and explore the high country. In Vallecito there is a federal campground that has hiking along the river in the rocky San Juan mountains as well.
