Key differences in comparing our condo to others:

Our condo is:

1. 25% larger than most 2 bedrooms-note distance from fireplace to back window (1100ft)

2. Is a penthouse with vaulted celings.

3. Has more real beds 2 Kings (King and bunk bed in 1 room, King in the other + sofa sleeper + crib)

4. Has a larger deck with grill

5. Is in the slopeside building which has direct ski-in out access. We are THE closest bldg to slopes in all of WP. Look at a ski map.

6. Has been renovated and updated

7. You are guaranteed of where you will be. Going through the lodge you may end up with a 1st floor unit looking at construction.

8. Is quiet because it's a top floor end unit with no units across the hall. In other units it is possible to hear neighbors, snowcats, people in the hallway, the train etc. I've stayed in riverside bldg of zephyr and heard buses backing up and I've stayed in Fraser crossing and heard loud people from the central hot tub and hallways. I'm in Fraser C now and it's unbelievably loud.

NOTE: the new base village is complete. However this means that if you do not stay at the base you will have to :

drive to upper parking lot (10 min), change (10 min) walk to new gondola that goes from lot to start of new village (5 min), wait for gondola (5 min), walk from gondola through village just to get to Zephyr. ( 5 min). It can add at least half an hour each way. OR you can stay at the zephyr roll out of bed and ski (no walking) to zephyr lift.

Or wait and take shuttle bus (20 min) to start of new village and walk 5 min to zephyr.

Even if you stay at the base there is still a walk from any base building to the zephyr lift. Ours (slopeside) is the only bldg you can ski down to the lift with no walking at all. See photo and look at ski map.

How can it get any better?! Zephyr Mountain Lodge is the only property located in the center of the action at the base of Winter Park Ski Area. Hence it's the only true ski-in-out (no cat walks). Built in 2000, it's also a newer property. Hallways, common areas, lobbies have all been completely renovated in 2009. So why should you rent from us?

Convenience-convenience. You don't want to waste time on your vacation and ski-in-out is the way to go. The lift is literally outside the door (110 feet away). We are in the Slopeside building so you can literally ski right to the door. For the Riverside, fraser or founders building (not us) you have to walk a little bit.Think of it-drop the kids off at ski school then walk back, stop at Starbucks, and leisurely put on your skis while everybody else walks from their car.

Too warm? Go back and shed a layer. Two feet of powder and you can't wait for the slow pokes to get ready? Just go and meet them in a few runs. Hungry? Go back for lunch, take off your boots, relax. If somebody in your group gets tired just send them back while you ski. If you drive or take a shuttle it adds at least 20-30 minutes each way and you still have to walk with skis and take everything with you. Since you go as a group, you end up wasting time waiting for people. You get a lot more skiing done with a ski-in/out Condo. The rental shops are right there as well.

Larger is better. Our unit is a Penthouse end unit. It has vaulted ceilings and its quiet. There is nobody next to you, above you, or even across the hall. At 1100 square feet it is larger than a standard two bedroom which is 868 square foot. Most two bedrooms at the Zephyr have only enough room for one bed in each room. Our unit has a king and a bunk bed in one room and a king in the other with space left over for a crib or mattress. Our balcony is also larger. Of course you also have access to four hot tubs, a fitness center, private ski lockers, a game room and heated underground parking.

Internet access- We have wireless internet access in the condo.

As you are renting directly from the owners we offer discounted rates and try to be reasonable. If you find a lower rate through the Lodge we will beat it.

The best reason to rent from us? We can tell you all about the secret powder stashes, glades, where to avoid crowds and icy spots and just how to ski the mountain.

Still not decided about Winter Park? Winter Park consistently gets more snow on a daily basis than resorts in Summit county. Mary Jane has the best bumps in the nation. You can ski for days without doing the same line. There's glade skiing (improved this year), above tree line skiing, hike to adventure skiing in the Cirque. Of course there's plenty of cruisers and the ski school is great. There is a separate learning area for beginners with magic carpets. There is fantastic cross country skiing at YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch and Devil's thumb and some of the best snowmobiling too. It the summer there are mountain bike trails galore (500 miles) and Rocky Mountain National Park is close by. At the base there is an alpine slide, trampoline, mini golf, chairlift rides, hiking and a human maze. This year Winter Park has added lifts and done many improvements.

April renters. FYI I've had the most powder days in April than any other month consistently. Skied on closing day April 30 and the whole mountain was open with a 68" base. They had received 30" of snow from April 20-30. It was mid winter conditions.

Convenient Condo for Skiing

Our group of two couples stayed in David’s condo for three nights in February. We’d done a lot of research and were worried about what the condition would be like in the Zephyr lodge, but need not have worried. The condo was in great shape, beautiful flooring, comfortable bedding and the kitchen, while compact (they all apparently are in this building) had everything we could have wanted. The new shower heads were really helpful after a long day on the slopes. There’s not a ton of room for toiletries in the bathroom, otherwise they were spacious.

The ski locker was very convenient – we picked up our rentals at the place in the building, fit three sets of skis in the lockers, and left our boots outside the condo door as instructed. They might have fit in the locker, but there aren’t a lot of places of people to sit in the locker room to wrangle ski boots on. The hot tubs outside the ski locker area were both working and not crowded in the afternoon, a nice place to sit in comfort and watch the skiiers going up the lifts.

David’s instructions were very clear, down to the instructions on how to program the TV sets. We had one non-skier in our group, and were able to hook up our apple TV and binge watch a season of Homeland in the living are, the fire beside. He even accommodated our early arrival – I had heard that was an issue with people who book direct with the resort.

Do note that though it’s easy to walk from the locker rooms, through the hot tub area and ski out of the building, you have to be good enough to ski on Mary Jane to adequately ski back in. Two of us were beginners, and not comfortable on that side of the mountain. Walking in was a matter of mere steps, though, so this was not an issue.

Owner's Response: Thx for the detailed review Andy. Yes there are a lot of advantages renting from an owner instead of the lodge or rental agency. One is knowing exactly where your condo is rather than being told the day of and possibly being on a lower floor in a smaller condo. Having stayed in friends condos at the Zephyr and Fraser Crossing, I was surprised how noisy other condos can be. From people talking in the hallway or in the hot tub to snocats and buses backing up and trains (riverside bldg is close to the tracks- we are in slopeside). As a future renter just said, we give detailed instructions and tips on where to ski etc that a large agency doesn't. Two ways to ski into the bldg are: 1. Take the arrow lift up and ski down Hughes or 2. Take corridor from Mary Jane. Beginners can ski down from the bldg very easy to the ski school meeting place or Gemini lift. There is no bldg in WP closer to the Zephyr lift or beginner areas than ours. WP provides carts to put kids and kids skis in from the beginner area to wherever you want to go. Also we always go in to eat lunch thereby saving $20 per person on a burger.

Peace and quiet!!!!

David's unit at Winter Park Zephyr Lodge was a welcome retreat. The unit was clean and well furnished. The location and convenience could not be beat! Above all else, I was amazed at how quiet the unit was. You are at the end of the hallway on the top floor which leads to near silence. The unit is ski in / ski out and the ski lockers are right by the entrance near the hot tubs. I was pleasantly surprised by the convenience of location and all that Winter Park had to offer.

Sleeping arrangements are great for 4-6 people and bedrooms are separated by the living space. Laundry is at the other end of the hall and consist of one washer and one dryer. Change machines are located in the ski locker room but it is always wise to bring your own quarters. $1.50 per wash and $1.50 per dry but more than one dry cycle was needed..

There are plenty of good places to eat in the resort center, but if you wanted to take your car from the underground parking ($14 per day) into the town of Winter Park, there are may more restaurants, supermarkets, and liquor store. A reasonable breakfast was at the village waffle house - waffle, bacon, hot drink for $8. The unit is so convenient you should consider ski in for lunch and save a ton of money.

Check in was a breeze as per David's instructions and lightning fast since a drop box is used.

My only constructive feedback is to add overhead or track lighting as much of the unit is dark at night even when all floor lamps are on.

Great unit! you won't regret your choice, and I know I will rebook if I return to Winter Park!

Owner's Response: Thx for the review Mike. We appreciate the silence and convenience and when we stay somewhere else (like whistler in Jan) we miss how close we are to the slopes. I’m always trying to keep things updated and just yesterday had a handyman install a new soap dispenser, new door threshold and fix the light bulb in the track light. We’ve bought new humidifiers and have purchased a bunch of lights. Also don’t forget if you didn’t want to use your car, you can take the zephyr shuttle anywhere

Very quiet location convenient to lifts and a few restaurants. Responsive owner. Be sure to read the four pages of instructions from the owner. It is a detailed process although not difficult.

This condo is well equipped, nicely maintained and ultra convenient. Our party of six was very comfortable in this unit. True ski in ski out, nice hot tubs, and spectacular views off of the large balcony. The owner provides clear information about the property and check in check out instructions. The unit is larger than other units we have stayed in at the Zephyr which adds to the comfortability. Great stay!

In addition to having all of the basics, the owner was quite accommodating in working with our particular situation. I doubt he can always do that, but just the fact that he tried, was something 90% of owners would not have even entertained as a discussion. We hope to find future opportunities to visit.
