Stubbs Barn Cottage is a recently converted cart shed, which has two bedrooms, bathroom, and a spacious and airy open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area. With tasteful yet practical furnishings and pictures by a local artist, we hope you will find it comfortable and relaxing. The cottage faces south and has large windows looking out over the top paddock, trees and fields beyond. With it’s own patio it is the ideal location to relax and watch the wildlife, listen to the birds singing, unwind and just enjoy those big Norfolk skies.
The cottage is kept cosy in the winter by underfloor heating from a ground source heat pump, electricity is generated from a 6Kw windturbine and hot water is provided by solar panels. Your hosts Martin and Jane, are keen gardeners, and will be happy to share seasonal produce with you.
They have successfully transformed the farm yard concrete to grass and gardens, with long-term plans including a kitchen and herb garden, orchard, reed beds and water garden – come every year and watch the progress! Chickens provide fresh eggs, while honey bees (kept some distance from the house you will be pleased to hear) work tirelessly to produce local honey.

While 20 minutes by car will find you in the cathedral city of Norwich, with shops, restaurants and museums. Close by are the historic towns of Beccles and Bungay and within easy reach is the Suffolk coast and the picturesque town of Southwold, home of the famous Adnams brewery. The RSPB bird reserves at Minsmere and Titchwell are both within reach, while other local reserves such as Strumpshaw, Wheatfen and Hickling offer excellent opportunities to see local wildlife.
Just returned from a fantastic stay at this property, both Jane and Martin (the owners) were very welcoming. The cottage has plenty of space and is very well equipped for any length of stay. It is a great base to explore coastal areas and back further inland to get to Norwich and north. If you are looking for a quiet place to get away and relax, then this is the place to stay. There are also solar panels & a wind turbine installed to generate electricity & hot water so is very eco friendly. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone with small children.
This property is ideally situated for Norwich, the local town of Loddon and exploring the coast with everything it has to offer. The cottage has been lovingly furnished by the owners to provide a peaceful and quiet retreat. The owners are very friendly and can provide the most delightul eggs from their hens! As visitors, you are free to wander around the grounds at will. This is one of the best properties we have ever stayed in and would thoroughly recommend that if you want a week away from it all, you should not hesitate to book!
We couldn't ask for anything more, the place was just perfect. The owners were lovely and accomodating. We loved the fresh bread and eggs when we arrived. Our boy really enjoyed the places we visited around Norfolk-the castle, dinosaur park, shops. So many things you could do, hence going back for another stay. The place is just the ideal tonic to enjoy your holiday after all your sightseeing. We can't wait to get back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week here; the owners were very welcoming and helpful and the cottage itself is cosy, stylish and well-appointed. It's in a very quiet location and our 3 year old greatly enjoyed seeing the chickens and vegetable garden. We would recommend Norwich Castle for children, also Southwold is gorgeous and you should catch the 1950s green bus 'Olive' which goes from the pier every 30 minutes. A £3 ticket lasts all day and the driver and conductor were wonderfully kind and helpful. Loddon is great to walk around and there is a nice circular walk.
A very positive experience all round!
