Gorgeous Home & Cabin on Peaceful Lake Close to Traverse City

About Ed & Jan McCall
We are Ed & Jan McCall. We were living in Austin, Texas when we starting coming to Traverse City 23 years ago to escape the Texas heat. We loved the area so much bought an old cottage and spent the summers here and eventually made it our year-round home. Now we continue to maintain the property and make it available to rent so families can experience the awesomeness of this unique area in a beautiful, luxury home.
Ed & Jan McCall purchased this House in 1997
Why Ed & Jan McCall chose Traverse City
We love the wooded setting, the gentle slope to the water, and THE PRIVACY (unlike properties on larger lakes, with cottages on top of each other, we have lots & lots of outdoor space) Everyone appreciates the convenient location from downtown TC. It is an absolute priority for us to keep the property & buildings beautifully maintained. We do it because we like it that way and we know our guests do too. When people stay here we don't want them to feel like they are just in some random rental property. We want them to feel special, super comfortable, and to have every expectation exceeded.
What makes this House unique
Everyone who stays here loves the quiet, peaceful setting, the beautiful view of the lake, and all the cool places on the property to gather. The Lakehouse & Guest Cabin have provided a setting for many families and friends to create memories that will last a lifetime. We know it will do the same for you.

Great short getaway for friends
We had a wonderful weekend at The Lake House! The space fit 10 very comfortably without the use of the Guest Cabin (which was very cute!). The upstairs kitchen and living space was a favorite during a blustery day while the basement bar area and patio walkout were a great place to gather on a snowy night with some games and a puzzle.
We made use of the outdoor and indoor fireplaces along with the grill. The fully stocked kitchen had everything we needed (and some things we don't have in our own kitchens but always wanted!).
Overall the space was very clean, wonderfully furnished, and had some wonderful extra touches like toiletries in each bathroom and labels on all light switches (and there were a lot of them in a house this size). In all things you can tell the owners truly care about their house and their guests. We would highly recommend this place to any group looking for a low-key and relaxing stay and can't wait to come back overselves!
Best VRBO we’ve stayed in!
This is a great property and house. It has everything you need. The kitchen is better stocked than mine at home. We loved the porch overlooking the lake and ate all of our meals out there and enjoyed many night time fires.
It is close to Traverse City and Torch Lake which we loved.
Jan and Ed were very easy to work with and Paul the caretaker was great.
We highly recommend it!
Thank you for choosing to stay at the Lakehouse & Guest Cabin. We are pleased you and your family enjoyed your time.
Never have I stayed in a "vacation rental" that was nicer than my own home until now. There is nothing that the owners haven't thought of...truly a slice of heaven. Thank you! Great week!
So nice of you! Thank you for taking care of everything. We're happy you loved your time at the Lakehouse!
wonderful time on High Lake
Our family had a great time staying here. It was absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed using the kayaks, paddle boards, sports equipment and the pontoon boat. We had fires down by the lake a couple of nights and that was a lot of fun. The house is very convenient to downtown Traverse City which we liked. We walked to the park with our 2 year old grand daughter a couple of times. Everything is just as described. This may have been our most enjoyable vacation ever!
We love to hear when families made great memories at the Lakehouse. Thank you for choosing to spend your precious time together at our property and for caring for everything.
Exceeded expectations in every way
The property truly exceeded our expectations in every way. From kayaks, paddle boards, noodles, even fun float toys the kids loved all came with our use. We were greeted with a personalized note and a lovely bottle of wine. Our family wants to come back and do it again next year. This was our favorite family vacation ever. Even the size of the lake was perfect- not too big and not too small. Thank you, Jan and Ed!!
You are so welcome PJ! We were happy to have your family stay at the Lakehouse. Thank you for choosing our property for your special time together.
House was awesome, they thought of everything!
House was in a peaceful setting in the woods but still close to Traverse city and to many other fun things to do. Incredibly well stocked, which was so convenient. Everyone had a great time. Will definitely stay again!
