A wonderful island experience.

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean, comfortable, and spacious. Our unit was tastefully decorated in an island motif, and is well-maintained. Jim and Kepi were warm and friendly, with a wealth of information about touring the area. They obviously take great pride in their property, and were available for any needs, but not intrusive.

Pleasant tropical getaway with fantastic hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Jim and Kepi were great from the get go! Upon arriving the hale was set up perfectly and we were right at home. The two bedrooms were upstairs, one had a bed and the other had two - plenty of space for a family of 3 or 4. Downstairs had an inviting lanai and living area/kitchen. Kitchen had plenty of utensils, bowls, plates, etc but not really any spices if you plan on cooking. The location is also great, it's about 15 minutes south of Hilo. There is tons of stuff to do in Hilo or further south (warm pools, steam vents, volcano bike ride was our favorite). The only thing that caught us off guard was that there are multiple units within Jim and Kepi's property. It was never an issue, as there are quiet hours and everyone primarily kept to themselves, but if you are looking for a super secluded getaway, I would recommend asking Jim and Kepi if they are having other tenants at the same time. Thanks for everything Jim and Kepi, see you again!

Fun local Hawaiian experience

  • 4 of 5

Loved all the space, and the home is decorated in such fun Hawaiian themes and colors. We had three kids, and three adults so we are glad we rented the extra room that comes with an extra bathroom too, that was helpful. The house has everything you need for your stay, very comfortable. The owner will do a load of laundry for a fee, which we needed. They also had a great selection of DVDs which my kids enjoyed. There is no AC but with the many fans it was still comfortable. The only thing that was strange, but ended up working out better than we thought, was that you can't use the water from the faucets. You can only use the water they provide from the large water bottles.

The house is tucked away in a neighborhood and feels very private. It's a great location to get to Volcano NP, waterfalls, Hilo's farmer market and many more fun things. If you are questioning coming the Hilo side of the island, you should go!

Owner's Response: The water in apt can be used, we catch rain water in this part of the island. It is filtered. We suggest that everyone drink the bottled water that is provided in apt.

Tropical hideaway

  • 3 of 5

My family and I rented Hanu Hale 3 for a week. It is a perfect size for a family of five. The two bedrooms upstairs are perfect, one with a full size & a twin and the other has a queen; loads of closet space. The downstairs with the high ceilings open everything up nicely. Kepi has painted many beautiful thing throughout the house and they are neat to go around and look at. We had a great time, Kepi was very helpful and offered suggestions on better ways to see things or routes to take. Both Jim & Kepi are wonderful people. Rent this house and see for yourself.
