About Kathleen Zaro
Excited to be the brand new owner/operator of an amazing, beautiful, historic vacation rental in Newcastle, CA. Love to ski, mountain bike, hike, yoga, cook and read. Love teaching culinary classes to middle school children at an International Baccalaureate Charter School in Loomis, CA. Looking forward to learning about organic sustainable farming practices and applying them to the super cool orchard on our new ranch! Love my blended family of 8! What an awesome life this is!!!!
Kathleen Zaro purchased this House in 2018
Why Kathleen Zaro chose Newcastle
Once you have experienced the rustic charm, you will see how special the place is and will want to come back again. Prior to our family purchasing this amazing property, this home had been passed down from their grandfather and had been in their family for four generations. Much of the furniture is over 100 years old and the 1906 home has a timeless elegance. When we met several of the previous owners, this is generally what they had to say about this special place: "The ranch is a place where time stops. It's like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting. It was the one constant that never seemed to change, when everything else in life was constantly changing." The moment we stepped foot on this amazing property, we instantly fell in love and felt at peace.
What makes this House unique
The area has beautiful rolling hills for running or biking. There are a few golf courses close by and you are 10 minutes from Folsom Lake. There is a full regulation tennis court, with an informal half basketball court, ping pong table and horseshoe pit. We have regulation horseshoes and plastic ones for the kids. If you are serious about tennis or table tennis, you may want to bring your personal rackets or paddles, although we do have some vintage and non professional ones. The large swimming pool has a ‘springy’ diving board and is sparkling clean and inviting. We have pool towels, a blow-up toddler pool for the little ones, some pool toys and floats, including some child friendly floatation devices but you may want to bring any favorite water toys and plenty of sun screen lotion. We have a number of other things here you may enjoy including everyone’s favorite, the orchard, which has nearly every variety of fruit available; all kinds of citrus as well as many varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum, prune, tangerine and more! While here, you'll never have to buy fruit at the store. You and your family can pick your own fresh fruit off the tree. You can even take a box home with you. In the summer, you can pick fresh blackberries to your heart's delight. Perfect for blackberry pie. Folsom Lake is only a few minutes from the Ranch and you can rent horses and boats. We can help with that and there are a number of interesting local attractions, restaurants etc. we can recommend.

More than a vacation
Truly visiting this property is an experience. The older home, period furnishings and character are a delight. Yet the amenities are all there. Very comfortable, and awesome. Can’t say enough good things!
Everything was in fabulous condition. Lots of very thoughtful items available for guest use on the property from pool towels to extra suncreen to flipflops to cross the gravel driveway. The owner is super nice and fantastic to work with.
I was a teenager in the '80's the last time I visited the Ranch with my family. Thirty-five years later my siblings and I brought our children to stay and experience everything the Ranch has to offer: swimming in the pool, playing tennis, basketball, shooting pool, playing yard games and most importantly spending time together creating many new and wonderful memories at this special place.
So very thankful for our host Kathleen for giving us the opportunity to come back again. We loved every second we spent there!
Best Place Ever!!!
We have stayed at quite a few vacation rentals, by far this is the very best!!
More than enough room for all, stocked with everything needed and more, something to do for ALL ages (pool, billiards, tennis, basketball, tetherball, bikes, cornhole, pingpong, large checkers-of which I was the champion- whiffle ball, scooters, horseshoe, indoor games, more than I can remember. Oh, a TV but really? Who needs that?) Beautiful front deck to watch the kids (and Gramma) swing, with large wifi speaker ( thank you). Amazing decking around the pool with plenty of sunning and shaded seating, fully stocked pool house.
The home has more personality than some people I know. It's close proximity to so many things to do but why leave?
My baby girl got married at the Blue Goose venue in Loomis and being so close allowed the bridal party to come back to take pictures, awesome pictures! And the use of the "Honeymoon Cottage" was perfect!!
Can't say enough about this place except that Kathleen is the warmest, most pleasant to work with owner I have ever met, THANK YOU!!!!
Great Place For A Group
We had our semi-annual gathering of friends at Green Hill Ranch last weekend. What a lovely place! The house, pool and tennis court make this a perfect spot for groups. We even went to the Auburn Fourth of July fireworks show and it was fabulous. I definitely recommend Green Hill Ranch.
This was our second time staying at this property and we were not disappointed. This house has it all. This was our once a year family vacation with our kids and grandkids and there was never a shortage of something to do. If we weren't in the awesome pool, we were playing tennis, basketball, ping pong, croquet, tetherball, swinging on the swings, or just relaxing on the huge front porch enjoying good conversation. The owners have thought of everything! Owner is extremely accommodating. She asked me before our arrival how we wanted the beds configured. Very very accommodating. We had 18 people and we fit very comfortably. There's even nice blow up beds for the kids, complete with bedding in each bag. I can't think of one thing the house/property was lacking. Our stay was perfect once again!
Nearby there are horse stables, riding trails, wineries, golf courses, whitewater rafting, water-skiing, canoeing, fishing, camping and kayaking. Tahoe ski resorts are an easy one hour drive away. ,null
