Overview

About the property

3 bedroomed cottage to sleep 6 in the charming seaside village of Seaview

'High Tide' is a delightful three bedroomed seaside home with loggia and decked terrace, overlooking the Solent. Located in the charming seaside village of Seaview, on the Island's east coast, the cottage is an ideal retreat for a family beach holiday, and for everyone who loves sailing, walking or just relaxing in 'a gentler world' (The Daily Telegraph). High Tide is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac at the top of Seaview village. At the end of this short road is the former Seagrove Manor House; and there is a recreational area where children can let off any remaining steam after their day on the beach. A footpath from the Manor House leads down to Seagrove Bay and onto Priory Bay, perhaps the best beach on the Island.

‘High Tide’ has been extended and refurbished into a delightful, ‘New England’ style, seaside home. Its rooms are fresh and light, and it is finished to a high standard. The ground floor comprises a large sitting room with a solid-fuel fire, opening into the loggia. Here one can either watch the freesat TV or all the activity on the busy Solent. Extensive sea views are also offered by the conservatory/dining area, where six can eat and then relax in comfort, overlooking the large enclosed garden with two paved terraces, a summerhouse and a barbecue. The conservatory opens onto a decked terrace, where al fresco meals can be enjoyed whilst watching ocean shipping pass to and from Southampton.

There is a spacious and well equipped kitchen; and a utility area, with its own entrance for those returning damp and sandy from the beach. A shower-room is handily situated off the utility area; and on the ground floor there is also a twin bedroom and a bathroom.

Upstairs, either side of a third loo, there is a large twin bedroom and double bedroom, each with a washbasin and stunning sea views.

The centre of the village, which retains all of its Victorian charm, is only a short stroll away, as are sandy beaches, crabbing rocks and public slipways for sailing. The village centre has some useful shops, a cafe, an award-winning restaurant and a handy sea-front pub.

The Isle of Wight is an all year round destination, with some of the best weather in the country. This makes it not only a favourite for beach and sailing holidays, but also those who like to walk, ride, cycle, bird-watch or visit attractions for children or places of historic interest. Much of the Island is a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; and it hosts the UK’s largest walking festival.

About Mr Tim Burton

I'm a retired lawyer, now a writer, who has been coming to Seaview since the early 1960s. My parents met when they were on holiday in Shanklin and my wife, Frances, went to school in Ryde. So the Island has always been a special place for us.

Mr Tim Burton purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Mr Tim Burton chose Isle of Wight

When our children were growing up, High Tide was perfect: it's a short, safe walk to the beach, the rec and the village. It is equally attractive now it is just Frances and me. From our peaceful terrace, with a cool glass of local white wine, we watch the yachts and ships go by on the Solent - and look forward to introducing grandchildren to High Tide and the Island.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Another wonderful week at High Tide. It seemed perfect when we first visited about five years ago, but somehow Frances and Tim manage to make improvements each year!

Seaview is renowned for sailing. As well as a leading yacht club, the village has a number of public slipways, which makes it an ideal location for messing about in boats. The village is also a centre for other water sports including windsurfing, water skiing and fishing.

The beaches at Seaview are perfect for a traditional seaside holiday. There is sand for building castles, rocks from which to go crabbing and, at low tide, rock pools for shrimping. Priory Bay, possibly the best beach on the Island, is just a 15 minute walk away from ‘High Tide’, along a peaceful footpath.

In recent years, the Island has attracted avid foodies. It has everything from fine dining to beach cafes, many featuring locally produced meat, fish, vegetables, cheeses and wines. The nearest award winning establishment, The Seaview Hotel and Restaurant, is just a short stroll away from ‘High Tide’.

My girls and I love High Tide.

  • 5 of 5

High Tide is a fantastic holiday cottage. Situated a stones throw from the great swimming and crabbing beach of Seaview it has so many reasons for my girls and I to rent. The cottage has 3 very big bedrooms and 2 large relaxing lounges - one for the kids and the other for me when it rains; as it did during our stay! The joys of the British weather! The cottage is fully equipped, clean and modern. The garden and garden house are lovely when sunny. Beds are very comfy - an important factor when away from home. When relaxing in the conservatory the views are beautiful. I would highly recommend High Tide to all my friends. Thank you Mr and Mrs Burton for allowing us stay at your home/cottage. We had a brilliant week.

A superb property and location with fabulous views. Well equipped. Homely and spacious.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely traditional family holiday. Seaview is an unspoilt gem . We had never even heard of Seaview before. The children loved the beaches and spent hours crabbing. The house was a perfect base with superb views of the sea, with regular sightings of cruise ships and ferries passing by. We also enjoyed seeing spitfires making daily trips along the coast. The house has so much space that we could all spread out and chill out in comfort. The conservatory was the room most heavily used for meals, games and ship viewing. The view from the main upstairs bedroom is wonderful, with the added bonus of the scope and binoculars. It is a house we would love to revisit. Highly recommended

We all had such a lovely time - the house was perfect for us - the age range of our group was 91 to 11 - and all were so happy! Seaview has to be the best place to stay on the Island - brilliant crabbing and great food ! Have to come back soon!

Very comfortable accommodation, well fitted out and great location. Just 5-10 minutes walk to Beach

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable house, lovely conservatory with great sea views, where we spent majority of our time when not out sightseeing. Very well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms. Just a shame we had wet weather for the 3 days we were there as we didn't make best use of well laid out garden! Would love to come back and explore more.
