|Minimum Stay||7 - 90 nights|
Villa Giorgos is a comfortable, peaceful and private retreat on the forested outskirts of the charming traditional village of Gavalohori. The villa has dramatic views of Souda Bay, Aptera Fort, The Akrotiri Peninsula, acres of olive and cypress trees, and the spectacular White Mountains. All of the bedrooms in the main villa, and living areas, lead out to balconies and terraces to enjoy these views. For families or large groups that have members who would like a little more privacy, or are less able to negotiate stairs, guests at Villa Giorgos have the option of renting (for an extra fee) the completely self-contained annex studio on the ground floor. The annex studio has a separate entrance but is only ever rented as one unit with the villa, not separately.
Hidden away on a hillside at the end of a short private track above a ravine, and surrounded on 3 sides by a forest of tall cypress trees, both the villa and the very private pool terrace, are very secluded and yet only 4 minutes away by car from the pretty coastal village of Almyrida with its sandy beaches and many amenities.
Villa Giorgos is modern, comfortably furnished and well equipped with everything needed for a relaxing vacation including satellite TV, DVD and CD players, 3G WIFI internet access for up to 5 devices (air-time cards will need to be purchased), a fully equipped kitchen, a BBQ, and air conditioning units throughout. The a/c units also double up as heaters, and there is central heating for the cooler nights early and late season. The thoughtful Greek owners have supplied large pool/beach towels so that you will not have to bring these with you. The villa has many typically Cretan touches such as local cypress wood for the interior staircase, the doors, the tilt and turn windows which provide a constant through breeze, the shutters and pergolas. The bedroom furniture, including the built-in wardrobes and vanity units, and the kitchen cabinets have also been made from this matching warm wood. Natural local stone has been used in abundance on this lovely property which includes a private parking area. In addition to the annex studio, the villa is partially joined to a mirror image second villa that is unfurnished and permanently un-occupied, thus ensuring your privacy.
The large swimming pool is on its own terrace set above and behind the villa. Surrounded by a low stone wall and tall trees, including cypress, olive and carob, the pool area is very private and peaceful where the only sounds you are likely to hear are the birds singing or the tinkling of bells from nearby sheep. There are many raised flowerbeds which are planted with an abundance of shrubs including magnolia trees, roses, margaritas, different coloured daisies, and hydrangea. The living room and bedrooms all lead out to balconies and terraces which have a choice of sun or shade and are equipped with tables, chairs and umbrellas so that you may relax with a meal or a drink whilst taking in the glorious views down the valley to the sea.
Villa Giorgos has a unique countrified location with no immediate neighbours – just 1 semi occupied villa a few hundred metres away on the on the far side of a ravine.
It should therefore appeal to the escapists amongst you who value comfort and seclusion, whilst being just minutes from beaches, tavernas and shops.
Villa Giorgos is exclusively booked by Frankie Miles. Frankie runs Villas Crete Holidays which is a registered Tourist Office, based in Hampshire, England and Almyrida, Crete. Whilst most travel companies cover many different countries and/or areas of Greece and Crete, we at Villas Crete Holidays only work in the North West of Crete and we specialise in the Apokoranas region, just east of the historic Venetian town of Chania. The Apokoronas (including the villages of Almyrida, Kalives, Kokkino Horio, Plaka and Gavalohori) has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort area that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. The area is renowned for its sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise water, stunning views of Souda Bay and The White Mountains, excellent tavernas, and archaeological sites.
Frankie is very hands-on at Villas Crete Holiday. She has worked with rental villas on Crete for more than 18 years and has written the best selling guide book "Crete on the Road". The book includes detailed directions and information to all the major tourist attractions, as well as many hidden sites. Also in the book is the only existing map of the National Highway showing all of the entrances/exits and distances. Frankie’s unrivalled knowledge, love of the island, and attention to detail is now being fully put to use to guarantee a fantastic holiday for our guests. Before Crete, Frankie lived all over the world. She initially came to Crete for 1 season after 12 hectic years in New York working various jobs including: office manager for the band Simply Red; production assistant to the singer Paul Simon; and booking bands such as Guns N’ Roses for The Limelight nightclub. All of this was no match, however, to the fantastic weather and food, the warmth of the Cretan people, and the exquisite natural beauty of Crete. When (very occasionally) not working, Frankie spends time helping the stray animals of Crete.
Despite the complete privacy Villa Giorgos is only 900m from the shops, and tavernas in Gavalohori. You can walk on a quiet country road to have a delicious meal and a drink (or two) without worrying about driving home.
The villa has a fantastic private location in the heart of the countryside but it is only a few minutes drive from the beaches, shops and tavernas in Almyrida and 45 minutes easy drive from Chania airport.
Villas Crete Holidays truly are the Apokoronas Specialists as unlike other offices, 3 of the 4 members of our expert team live and work here all year round which enables us to always have completely up-to-date information about the villas, local facilities, and tourist attractions. We can help you with all aspects of your holiday including good value, reliable car hire, airport transfers, local information about shops, beaches, tavernas etc, detailed driving directions or walking directions for many routes. We can also arrange private boat hire, private boat trips, private sight-seeing flights, horse riding, water-skiing, big game fishing, guided walking, and guided coach excursions. Our office staff speak English, Greek, and a little French, and have a vast list of local contacts, and our representative in resort also speaks some Italian.
Both the company itself, and Frankie's book have been featured and recommended in articles in major British newspapers including the Sunday Mail and the Sunday Telegraph, as well as smaller publications such as Greece Magazine.
Most importantly, because we handle many villas, in the unlikely event that there is an unforeseen problem at your villa, we can usually offer you an alternative villa (although this cannot be guaranteed in high season).
We have many years experience working in tourism on Crete, and most importantly this experience is specifically related to villa rentals, which needs a very different area of expertise to other types of tourism such as walking holidays, or package holidays for the masses. We use all of our knowledge and local contacts to ensure that your holiday goes off smoothly from start to finish, from first booking the villa that is most suitable for you, to your arrival back home. When you are in resort, we are available during office hours for information, and 24 hours a day should you need medical assistance, yet we remain unobtrusive.
Gavalohori is a pretty traditional village with 4 tavernas, a bakery, and a well stocked mini market on the main square. The nearby beach at Almyrida is shallow and safe, has watersports, scuba diving, and is lined with many shops, cafe/bars, tavernas, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, private boat hire, boat trips, private sightseeing flights, horse riding, big game fishing, and guided walking and coach tours.
A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a variety of archaeological sites and quaint villages, and an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car.
With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind the harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics
