About Mr Brian Calder

We farm suckler cattle on the Somerset Levels producing beef for local butchers. Our holiday property was converted from redundant stone barn. Out of the bedroom window you can see baby calves with their proud mums in our maternity field. After very wet winter the countryside has recovered extremely well, we were luckily about the flood level.

Why Mr Brian Calder chose Langport

Roomy, well appointed, off the road, plenty of space outside too.

Read our reviews its bigger than it looks, plenty of room for a family.

Late bookings can get you a discount.

What makes this barn unique

Peaceful, warm & friendly. Great residents comments. Easy distance to explore delights both Somerset & Dorset coasts & villages. 15 mins from A303 or M5.

Wow.. Beautiful little barn in a fantastic setting so tranquil. Barn is a brilliant size, there was 3 of us but would be a great size for 5. Had All the amenities needed.

Much bigger than it looks in the picture!

  • 5 of 5

Brian and Jan are a very welcoming couple without being intrusive. The barn is very modern and converted to a very high standard. It had everything you could expect. It is situated in a lovely area, and we were surprised as to how friendly the locals were. We had a lovely weekend there and would certainly return in the future.

A little gem

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful barn conversion, which is extremely comfortable and well appointed. Brian and Jan are very friendly hosts and most welcoming.

The working farm was lovely to see, and our daughters enjoyed the young calves.

Swanlake Barn is a great location from which to explore many of the attractions in the area. Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Tor are well worth visiting, as are some of the local hostelries, which serve good food.

A car is a must, but the place is well worth a visit. Thoroughly recommended.

The Tardis

  • 5 of 5

This property is fantastic. Brian and Jan offered a very warm welcome on our arrival, after a long drive from Lincolnshire. The house is very well furnished with everything you could possibly need. The internet worked well, an important issue with a nine year old. The walks for the dog were wonderful and plentiful. Local pubs offered a great choice of cuisine at good prices, although a car is needed. We walked to Langport over the fields and a pint was very much needed on arrival. Dulcie also made our dog welcome (similar breed though) and played happily.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and we would recommend this holiday home to anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing holiday, in the heart of beautiful Somerset countryside.

Brilliant barn to stay at. Ideal for visiting the whole of Somerset. Very quite location, cows on the doorstep were great. the Barn is huge inside, bit like the Tardis! Would love to visit again. Would highly recommend it.

Great winter break

  • 4 of 5

We have just enjoyed a week's break at this barn with our children; well appointed (although we sadly could not get an internet connection) and beautifully warm (very important last week!!) it was a great spot for a feb half term break. The owners were friendly; our daughter enjoyed playing with Dulcie the dog and checking out the week old calf with them! It is very much a working farm so you have to be happy to live in 'mooing' (and sniffing!) distance of the cows which are living in a nearby shed but as others have mentioned- a very peaceful spot. We enjoyed days out at Cheddar Gorge, Killerton, Stourhead, Weston Super Mare (cold and blowy but great value on the pier out of season!) as well as local walks in Langport. We could certainly have filled more days as lots to do locally - wished we had time to hire bikes and cycle along the River for next time!
