About Marthinus Wessels Marais
Welcome to our farm, La Petite Ferme du Marais. We are a family of four, Louiza, Marthinus and our two children. We have a small 25 hectare farm where we farm with Soay sheep (ancient breed that resembles to the wild mouflon sheep race). We also farm with Kangaroo (wallabies). All our animals are for sale and you are free to inquire using the contact form. Apart from that we have large tracts of land with forests which you can discover and with some luck see some deer or ever wild boar. We have an eco friendly farm where visitors can come and stay for a few days or even weeks. Huge farms leave a lot of CO2 footprints and that is what we are trying to prevent. We are into alternative farming methods like farming with Soay sheep which are used for "éco-pâturage", creating forests and harvesting our own oak trees, etc. We do not use pesticides on our land and do not use fertilizer. Our forests are natural and pastures get cut once a year towards the end of summer to enable water birds to nest and insects and bees to flourish. We recently, in 2018, created an independent lodge in a part of our farmhouse where guests can stay in the comfort on a fully functional farm in the heart of the Bresse region of Burgundy. From here guests can enjoy the calm of the countryside while discovering what the region has to offer be it historical landmarks, natural beauty, picturesque villages, wine tasting or a culinary adventures in Burgundy.

Amazing farm to rediscover yourself
On our way to Paris we decided to stop in this small farm. We were welcomed by Marthinus and Louiza and their 2 children, they are really friendly and welcoming people and it was a pleasure to have them around during our stay. The farm is a precious jewel in the middle of Bourgogne: there are some animals like chickens, ducks, sheeps and surprisingly wallabies. The apartment we rented was very very nice and comfortable. The bedroom has a very comfortable double bed. The living room is very spacious and comprehensive of a full equipped kitchen, TV, air conditioning, a big couch that can be use as additional bed and a table to eat. The bathroom has a very nice shower and we were really happy to see that there was also a laundry machine. The best part was the terrace with a view on the swimming pool and equipped with a barbecue and a sauna that unfortunately we didn't use since in January is pretty cold outside. Our stay was perfect since Marthinus and Louiza are very pleasant people that will keep you company if you want and will give you advises about the surroundings of the region with beautiful places to visit. We will definitely come back in summer to enjoy the swimming pool and barbecue and to see again the Marais that have become friends to us.
Modern Apartment on a Farm!
This was a great place to stay! You have everything you need, and it's very spacious. The shower was great, and there's even a washer in the bathroom. The farm is also lovely and the hosts were wonderful as well, I would highly recommend!
Great stay at beautiful home.
We stayed for a week at this great home. The pool is great, the house is very clean with everything you need available. There is enough for kids to see and do. The owners and their children are very nice and helpful. We enjoyed every single moment of our stay. The area is beautiful and there are some nice towns within 30m drive. We highly recommend this place.
