About Diane McEvilly

I own this one property in Santa Fe which has been my home for decades. I love my street and neighborhood and have happy memories of my children playing ball in the quiet streets. I have seen the fruit trees grow from little slips into mature giants producing cherries, apricots, peaches many years. I retired from teaching French in a local high school - then, since beginning to rent my casita, I have enjoyed meeting people from many countries. My guest book/scrap book is full of their photos, mementos and the stamps of their foreign countries. Tiling the bath, kitchen and floors myself was satisfying. My grand daughter says I'm married to my garden - I do work on it! Rates vary according to number of guests, length of stay, time of year and space occupied. Discounts apply for weekly/monthly visits.

Diane McEvilly purchased this house in 1971

Why Diane McEvilly chose Santa Fe

I moved here to be near the old center of this historic town and to be near the most excellent elementary school for my children. If you would enjoy walking on a tree-lined street, being surrounded by flowers, garden walls, fruit trees, lilacs, stone walks (no gravel!), you will also enjoy the peace and quiet of this centrally located retreat. It's modest and I have many repeat visitors (10 repeat bookings in 2015).

What makes this house unique

Casita du soleil is six-tenths of a mile from the Plaza - a flat walk on mostly quiet streets. Three tiny blocks to Sage Bakery, 5 tiny blocks to Whole Foods.

A few minutes to Railyard District of galleries, restaurants, SF Farmers' Market. Tranquility in the middle of everything.

Making Memories

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this lovely casita of Diana's for five nights and would have been elated to stay longer. It is in a perfect location on a quiet street, easy walking distance to the plaza, museums, galleries, the capitol building, and shops. Just exquisite. The weather was always changing so the next time I'm there I will hope to be able to enjoy the private courtyard. It is just the size of home I needed to fantasize about living there in Santa Fe--such a friendly town and always surrounded by endless art and sky. Of the places I have stayed through vrbo, Diana was by far the most accommodating & engaged host. This is a great place to stay if you want to build memories.

Location, location

  • 4 of 5

Delightful host, Diana. Knowledgeable of the area, with good dining and activity recommendations! You are easily able to walk to the nifty Railyard district and the downtown plaza area. Canyon Rd is also within walking distance. Easy drive to ski Santa Fe. Loved it!

Perfect for us

  • 5 of 5

Last spring, My wife and I stayed in the Casita and the small apartment was made available for our son. Couldn't have been better for us. The cozy accommodations met our needs perfectly affording both privacy and patio time. Also found the location to be convenient to downtown but close to the the Santa Fe Farmers market, good little restaurants and the amazing Sage Bakery. Diana is a wonderful hostess and even speaks fluent French. She has joined our family of good friends and we very much hope to get back to see her very soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Annie-Françoise and Gary ... I'm glad I could help you out in that unusual situation. What a pleasure to chat in French! I look forward to seeing you again, either here or in Oregon!

A perfect little casita!

  • 5 of 5

Comfort and proximity make this little casita a perfect place to stay. We were in Santa Fe to visit our daughter and family. The casita was perfectly located on a quiet side street and just a short walk through the neighborhood to her house as well as the Plaza and Canyon Road. The owner was accommodating and friendly. The house has all that you need - comfortable bed, adequate bathroom and kitchen, and a nice sitting area. The location allows one to walk to area restaurants and attractions. We would definitely stay here again!

Casita and apartment stay

  • 4 of 5

Casita - Excellent location and accommodations were comfy though a little cramped. The only thing we'd recommend is a little better ventilation - it was stuffy at times. Very retro and perfect for a couple looking for a quiet place to sleep after exploring Santa Fe and all it offers.

Apartment - again, quite comfy and accommodating, but we preferred the Casita (more private).

The owner lives on site and is very gracious and helpful providing directions and recommendations for sites to see and the best (possibly unknown) restaurants. We walked everywhere, so the location was perfect in it's proximity to down town. We'd definitely do this one again if/when we visit Santa Fe.

Lovely simply place and great location!

  • 5 of 5

It was perfectly as described and had all of the necessary items for a comfortable place to stay. The proximity to Whole Foods, the town center, and the Farmers Market and Rail yard made this place an amazing place to stay! We walked everywhere and truly enjoyed it.
