Why Owner chose Escondido
Elfin Forest is a rare gem of a place, it's truly being close to nature, the huge oaks give a sense of peace and tranquility. You really feel away from it the amazing thing is that it is so convenient to shops, major arteries. I can feel the ocean air here as well. A perfect spot in beautiful North County San Diego.
What makes this Guest House unique
I love showing folks what the old California used to be like, before the over development that has ruined many areas. There's an old windmill on the property which used to drive a well pump, horses next door, fruit trees with their ripening fruit, hummingbirds by day, owls by night.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Cheri was a gracious host. Very cozy guesthouse. Stocked with everything I needed for a long weekend. Peaceful setting with beautiful flowers, bunnies, birds and more! Would definitely visit again.
We really enjoyed our stay at Cheri's place! Everything was exactly as described and pictured, and Cheri is a very lovely host who made herself available anytime. The casita is on her property with lots of privacy and is very quiet, just over a mile to grocery shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend staying there!
San Elijo town and hills were right out our door.
Quiet retreat after a full day visiting family and grandkids yet close to everything we wanted to do.
We would stay there again next time we are planning an extended trip.
Elfin forest für Naturfreunde.
Kleine, saubere Unterkunft. Nette Vermieterin. Sehr bemüht. Ländliche Umgebung. Leider klappte es mit Wifi nicht oder sehr schwer. So konnte man schlecht planen und kommunizieren. Wenig Platz für Koffer. Für ein paar Tage oder Wochenende sehr gut.
Elfin Forest is not Escondido, it's a small rural part of San Diego County, with farms, ranches, million dollar homes...Escondido is to our east, and delivers our mail. There is a wilderness area less than a mile away, the Elfin Forest Reserve, great for hiking along a creek and up the mountain to the reservoir. I highly recommend San Diego Botanical Gardens, 40 acres of beauty, 12 mins away. Among the best botanical gardens in the US. Am happy to point out of the way beaches known to locals and some highlights of our historic surf towns of Leucadia and Encinitas. Rancho Santa Fe, one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the US, borders Elfin Forest on the south; a drive through this area is wonderful for viewing Lillian Rice architecture and magnificent homes. In the small town is world class dining, unique shops, inc a favorite, the Book Cellar with used books of every sort.
Two world class zoos are here practicing the new 'conservation' approach with animals, the famous San Diego zoo, and Wildlife Safari Park in Escondido, 20 mins away. Stone Brewery is another big attraction locally, craft beer with a popular new restaurant, outdoor setting. San Diego is golfer's dream, from my local favorite, Encinitas Ranch Golf Course, 10 mins away, with its ocean views to the famous Torrey Pines. Heading a bit south is Solana Beach with its decorator's row and Cardiff with its superb beach front fine dining. Del Mar and La Jolla are midway between North County and Downtown, beautiful upscale towns with horse racing, boutique shopping, art galleries and fine dining. Downtown Gaslamp District has all a fun loving night out on the town needs: music, theater, bars, restaurants. During the day, check out all the museums at Balboa Park, often with free live concerts in the Pavilion.
San Diego has a proud heritage as a military and naval center. In North County we have Camp Pendelton, along the docks near Downtown are battleships and air craft carriers to tour. Take the long bridge to quaint Coronado island, a naval center as well. On Point Loma we have beautiful Rosecrans National Cemetery.
Back in North County, along the coast is Carlsbad, more quaintness, beach walks, nice restaurants. Head north through Camp Pendleton to San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, all fun day trips.
San Diego, most beautiful city in the USA!
