Self contained annex sleeping up to 6

Churchland Farm, set in twelve acres on the Somerset Levels, offers a tranquil getaway for singles, couples, families, coarse fishers and those seeking cultural pleasures.

The farmhouse dates back to the early 17th century and sits alongside the River Brue. The Old Dairy forms a self contained annex of the main house and sleeps 4 - 5 (+ 2 on a sofa bed).

Guests have use of the hot tub, bbq, play area and lawned garden as well as being welcome to stroll along the river bank though closing gates is essential to ensure we do not loose the horses.

We own two dogs, two cats and 3 horses not to mention the wild rabbits in evidence at dawn and dusk.

Whether you want to bring your bikes and cycle through the levels or your hiking boots for country strolls there is plenty of space, not to mention the beaches near by and theme park which is great for all ages. For shopping you can't beat Bristol's Mall, Broadmead or Cabott Circus shopping areas, Taunton's country town shops or near by Clarkes Village Outlet (up to 70% off). And if it is culture and history you are looking for then there are museums in abundance, historical towns & cities & great beaches for fosil hunting. For a speacial expereince why not consider booking into one of the local spas. Somerset really has it all!

The annex, originally an old milking parlor, has its own entrance, a well equipped kitchen with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher toaster, kettle & coffe maker. Adjacent is the living/dining room equipped with a TV/DVD with freeview and CD player. Upstairs there is a galleried bedroom with a sloping ceiling, a double bedroom and en-suit shower room.

Hair dryer, straighteners, dressing gowns for adults, bed linen, towels and tea towels are supplied. A futon bed can also be supplied on request to take a 3rd child.

There is ample parking and a beautiful river walk as well as a secure play area for children. A BBQ is available for use as is the hot tub.

Dogs and other pets are welcome and by arrangement we can even lodge your ponies or horses subject to veterinary certificates and passports.

Night and day coarse fishing is available off the banks of the River Brue within the boundaries of Churchland Farm during the fishing season. Rod licenses will need to be presented before commencing fishing.

Checkin is Saturdays at 3pm & checkout is at 10am to allow sufficient time to turn round the annex for the next guests. If you are staying for two weeks we can arrange for cleaning and change of linen on request.

About Kevin & Paula Protheroe

Kevin & I met in Yeovil in 2000 & moved to Sedgemore from South Sommerset because we had the opportunity to bring our horses onto our own land.

Kevin is an ex Marine who has travelled the world and spent several years in Austrailer of which he has citizenship for and his two boys were born there.

I am from North London and since moving to Somerset for work in 2000 have never looked back, life could not be more lovely.

Churchland Farm is just idylic and our joint dream of owning somewhere big enough to accommodate our dogs, cats and horses on our own land. It is often hard to remember there is a big wide world beyond our gates as we sit by the river taking in the beautiful country views and come rain or shine we know just how lucky we are to own our home in the beautiful County of Somerset

What makes this farmhouse unique

Peace and tranquility, if you don't leave the grounds you can forget there is a world out there running at 100 miles an hour and if you do leave then the attractions of the seaside, Bristol city and numerous country villages are so near to hand.

A true hidden paradise!

What shall I say ... ? In order to rate an accomodation, you typically review the correctness of the discription, cleaniness and functionality, or quality of services, etc. To make it short - everything (at least) met our expectations and was just as described in the advertising text and in the photographs (incl. the two Teddy bears ...). The place worked perfectly fine for our family (with two daughters of ages 18 and 12). The rooms were plain and unpretentious, but full of charme and perfectly equipped. A "private" barbecue place and jacuzzi were true added values. Plus, the location is a perfect base to explore the beauty and richness of Somerset county (Bristol in the north or Wells in the east are easy to reach, and if you do not mind a 90 min trip by car, you can even reach Croyde beach at the west coast). Ideas and information were always kindly provided by our hosts. The "Churchland Farm" is not easy to find, though - as it is placed half a mile down into Newmans Lane that seems to end in bare wilderness ...

The particular value of the place, however, lies with the people who run it (not to forget their animals ...)! From the moment of our arrival we were embraced by Paula and Kevin and their family and guests, and there was not a second of doubt that we would feel just at home. The open-mindedness of these warm-hearted people made it easy to make contacts, and they are ready to share what they have. It was just a natural thing for Paula and Kevin that we could even ride their horses - for no extra fee asked!!! These people made our stay a true highlight on our trip through the south of England, and we hope to see them again sometime. Thank you so much, Paula and Kevin (and Carlos!), for your extra-ordinary hospitality and for six joyful days!

Absolutely lovey, highly recommended!!

A wonderful little annex that me, my partner and my three boys absolutely loved. Kevin and Paula were lovely hosts who couldn't have been more accommodating. (He even went so far as to order my middle son a new camera charger as he had forgotten his!) Genuinely lovely people. Kevin took all my boys out horse riding (something that none of them had done before!) and showed them how to go kayaking up the river and my youngest son would help with the horses on most days, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

There is so much to do in the surrounding areas with Brean, Weston-Super-Mare and Glastonbury not too far away. The accommodation was nice, and with 24/7 use of the large hot tub-we were all really pleased. It was so nice after a day out to come back and jump in the hot tub!

If you are considering booking this annex my advice would be to book it right away!

5 STAR HOSPITALITY!!

We stayed for two weeks and were absolutely very lucky with the weather! We were welkome day Kevin with a cup of Tea in the garden and he showed us all the features in and outside the annex. The annex has a well equipped kitchen with a large fridge and freezer, dishwasher and filter coffeemaker amongst the Kitchen facilities. The bathroom was spacious and the shower very good (enough hot water and a firm stream).

First evening we took a nice walk over the premisses of 12 acres and later that week Kevin let our boys (4 and 6 of age) ride the horses. They really enjoyed that and they just absolutely loved the three friendly dogs!!!

Activities we did: Brean beach, Brean leisure Park, Burnham beach, Weston-Super-Mare beach, Becky Falls (Dartmoor), The walled Gardens of Cannington, Forde Abbey, shopping in Taunton and Bristol, Wookey Hole.

And every evening we enjoyed the barbecue and hot tub in the garden!! We will return for sure!!! Edith, Bas, Mats and Nils van den Ham from Almelo, The Netherlands

Churchlands Farm for a great stay

We had a fantastic week at Churchlands farm, Paula and Kevin made us feel very welcome and were great hosts. It was the little touches they provided from the welcome wine and bits on arrival to the huge selection of dvd's that we could watch in the evening. We all loved the hot tub, very relaxing after a day out in the surrounding countryside or beach. Kevin let us ride the beautiful horses he owns and is not only a great horseman but a fantastic riding instructor who raised my daughters and my own confidence with the horses so that I was able to jump by the end of the week!

The location is very peaceful, yet close to beaches and areas such as the Cheddar Gorge. We'd love to visit again and have recommended you to our friends.

The annex bedroom and bathroom are upstairs so guest need to be able to negotiate stairs. The farm itself is fairly level and a lovely place to take a stroll Smokers are asked not to smoke in the annex Dogs need to be on a lead when sheep are in adjacent fields, otherwise they can run free on the farm though need to be happy with other dogs Guests have use of the outside hot tub, barbeque and a fenced (dog free), play area with trampoline as well as access to all outside areas; the river bank is a lovely picnic spot. The river is accessible for course fishing, with a license Looking for that special break, then we are happy to arrange those little extras including restaurant bookings to massages so you can concentrate on having a great time
