About the property

Spacious two bedroomed light and airy cottage with open plan downstairs

This charming holiday home is set in the Courtyard of Wick Farm down a small lane off a minor road. It is delightfully quiet and secluded and yet within a few minutes of the small town of Tisbury which has shops and a railway station which has regular services to London, Waterloo. All the main rooms have views across the unspoilt Nadder valley. Tisbury is a great centre for walking and for exploring Dorset. The historic cities of Salisbury and Bath as well as Wilton are easily reached for days out and it is just over an hour by car to the stunning Dorset coast.

The original stone arched door and windows are complemented by hardwood windows and maple floors throughout. The cottage is light and airy with an open plan downstairs and open tread stairs to the first floor. The newly fitted kitchen, double glazing and electric heating make this a great location for year round holidays for families or two couples.

The stables look onto the Vale of Wardour which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are lawns in front of the building and a wooded bank to the rear and 10 acres of field surrounding the courtyard. Parking is right outside the door and you can walk directly onto the public footpath.

Many years ago Wick Farm was an active dairy farm of some 400 acres. The present owners purchased the property in 1986 and have lovingly restored the farmhouse and surrounding buildings over many years. The oldest part of the farmhouse dates from about 1680 and The Stables are thought to have been built around 1800. Most of the buildings are constructed from the local Chilmark stone and though formerly thatched now have tiled roofs. There is still the old farm well (padlocked grill) and remains of the old bull pen. The stone troughs are now filled with flowers not water! During the summer months there may be sheep grazing the field but they are kept well away from the property by fences and a cattle grid. It is a thoroughly delightful spot,

About Mrs Anne Evans

Wick Farm is the home of Anne and Nick Evans who live in the farmhouse most of the time. We have spent many years doing up and restoring the property and it is where we raised our 3 sons who now live in London. Every year we do a little more to both the house and garden to improve the place and have a regular redecorating programme to keep both the house and the stables in excellent condition

  • The bathroom has a bath with a shower mixer tap, toilet and wash basin and hot water is provided by an immersion heater. There is also an electric towel rail and a well lit mirror. Above the bath is an electric shower with enclosure which heats very hot water on demand, so even if the hot water for the bath or basin is running a bit low, no need to wait , you can always have a piping hot shower any time of day.

  • The bedrooms and light and airy and have blinds on the front dormer and rear (velux) windows and duvets on the beds. From the front dormer windows there is a view accross the Nadder valley and from the rear you look out on a flowery bank. The bedrooms have maplewood floors as does the whole property. There is both night storage and convector heating and both rooms have chests of drawers. The double room has a wardrobe and the twin a hanging rail and under bed storage drawers. Both rooms have ceiling and bedside lights and two pillows per bed.

Notes:
The Stables is set on one side of the courtyard of Wick Farm which is accessed via a private road. There is parking in the yard in front of the stables and grass surounding which is great for sitting out in fine weather and for children to play. it is a quiet and peaceful spot and yet within a few minutes drive of Tisbury and the mainline railway station. If you do not bring a car we can collect you from the station and help with a first shop and it is only 7 minutes walk across the field and footpath to the shops and station. Tisbury has a small supermarket, butcher, deli and bakery, cafe, newsagent, hair and beauty and some interesting shops to browse.

Amazing immaculate property in a fantastic countryside location - highly recommended

We booked The Stables to stay in as we were visiting Longleat Safari Park and we were really happy that we did! It was 30 minutes away so a great location. The Stables is immaculate - very clean and in perfect condition. There is everything you could need (although a mirror downstairs could be useful!) and my daughter loved the games and puzzles provided. It is a real home from home. The beds are really comfy and plenty of towels are supplied. There is plenty of information provided about the cottage and local attractions.

The walk into the village across the fields and along the river is lovely and we had a delicious Sunday lunch at The Boot Inn in Tisbury so well worth a visit. It was exactly what we were after - quiet and relaxing and countryside views.

Unexpected Beauty

We were attracted to The Stables because of it's location in a small village in the English countryside. Don't know if that matters so much to the Brits, but if you're American, Canadian, Australian, etc.and want to experience what it's like to live away from the hustle and bustle of the city - and do so in a charming & comfortable location - then this is for you. The house was perfect for us - a couple in their mid-60's, plus our mom, in her mid-80's - and is well-appointed and quite comfortable (although I think we only turned the TV on once). the village of Tisbury is a gem and the folks are so very friendly and warm. We would definitely come back!

Lovely break away from it all

The stables is clean, modern and spacious. It had everything we needed. It is in a beautiful location, surrounded by green fields. It is walking distance to tisbury which is a pretty village with useful amenities like the co-op. Our 2 year old loved seeing all the animals nearby, rabbits, sheep, horses etc. it is the ideal place for a relaxing getaway and also good for a base if you wish to travel further afield, we went to longleat safari park and peppa pig world! Highly recommended.

Great place to experience the English countryside

We stayed here for 2 weeks while on sabbatical with our four children ages 4-10. Anne was very receptive of having us be there, even putting down another mattress for the kids. Anne was also kind enough to gather us from the train station with our luggage. The cottage itself was lovely and a good spot for taking children. The rooms were very spacious and perfectly sized for our family. The kids enjoyed the board games, foosball table, and the many books. Also, one of Anne's employees brought us some toys and a Nintendo Wii, which helped in filling out downtime. Everyone in Tisbury is simply lovely and welcomed us with open arms. The only complaint about the cottage was that something there, we think it might be the furniture downstairs, triggered some allergic reaction with my wife whenever she was in the cottage. Whenever we left for the day, she was immediately fine and stopped sneezing. Despite that only thing, the cottage is very close to town and to the train station via a fantastic footpath, so trips to the market, take-away restaurants, and Salisbury are very easy. There is also a big field nearby that the kids loved playing in. Lots of sheep to see! If you are looking for a quiet place to be for a while, it is the perfect place.

The Stables is a converted 18th century stables set in the courtyard of Wick Farm which dates from the 17th Century. In the surrounding field is an Enlish Heritage site thought to be the remains of a medieval village.Tisbury is surrounded by wonderful countryside for walking and cycling and there is a footpath leading to a network of local walks 50yards away. There are 3 golf courses within half an hours drive and horse riding nearby. There are many charming country pubs which serve food within 15 mins or less drive, or a great walk, and a wealth of historic homes and sites to visit. The ruins of Wardour Castle, where the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, was shot are close by and Stonehenge is a 25mins drive. There is an outdoor pool in Tisbury and a sports centre with a gym and tennis courts.

Further afield most areas of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire can easily be reached on a day trip and information on all types of outings is kept at the property

Golf: There is a golf course at Tollard Royal, Rushmore Golf Club where non members can pay a green fee

Rentals are from Saturday to Saturday with an arrival time of 3pm and departure time of 10.30am but we are happy to accomodate those on short breaks too.
Bed linen, towels and kitchen linen are provided.
For emergencies or problems there will either be someone resident in the farmhouse or on call nearby.
basic food supplies can be arranged and excellent cooked food ordered in advance from the deli

The rates as shown above are the weekly rates. Shorter stays are calculated differently, please email and ask for the price. The deposit is payable on booking and the rental amount in full 6 weeks before arrival. For bookings made less than 6 weeks before arrival both are due. Payment can be made by bank transfer either to a sterling or to a euro account, or by cheque through the post.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 7 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
