Visits to Dijon and Beaune:: Beaune 50kms by Main Road or Motorway A6; or Dijon 50kms by Toll Free Motorway A38 are both well worth visiting. Dijon, the ancient Capital of Burgundy, has much to offer the most discerning visitor; its Cathedral, fine churches and of course the Musee de Beaux Arts are spectacular, as is the large street market and the appetising covered food hall at Les Halles (Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays). Dijon is a gastronomic delight, with many Restaurants and Bistros, some hailing from China, India, Germany, Italy, Spain, North Africa. Beautiful Beaune, the undisputed capital of the Burgundy Wine Region, is compact with many cobbled streets running from it’s central ‘Carousel’ surrounded by Restaurants, Bistros and specialist shops and Boutiques. The impressive and World famous 15th century ‘Hotel-Dieu’ Hospice, should not be missed. Many wine cellars for tasting and buying, and a wonderful Saturday morning Street Market.
Wine:: Nowhere conjures up better the delights of Wine Tasting at source than the unlimited possibilities that await the visitor in this region of Burgundy. Apart from the 100 or so wine cellars in Beaune, opportunities to visit both small growers and large internationally known wine estates and their chateaux abound. Within 30km of Beaune will be found many world renowned villages; to the North, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Nuits-St-George also good with appealing little Restaurants, whilst to the South lie Pommard, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. to name a few. Suggestions covering wine tours and where to find that ‘unknown’ good value Vigneron can be provided. There are many small villages with most welcoming wine growers where you may sample and buy their wines. Chablis is 1 ½ hours North by A6 Motorway.
Out and About, Touring: : Whether it be by car or bicycle, or indeed both there are countless opportunities to savour the beautiful surrounding countryside. Cycle, or walk, on the flat, beside the Canal de Bourgogne or in the rolling hills; stroll through the high valleys and hills with magnificent views, ideal for picnics, bird-watching, photography and painting. Rock climbing at Saffres 30minutes. See the countryside from hot-air balloon or microlight. Choice of several local lakes from which to fish, swim, sail or windsurf. Chateauneuf and Chateau de Commarin are ten minutes away, whilst within an hour’s drive there are numerous Romanesque Churches, Chateaux, and Abbeys; the ancient village of Flavigny (Film ‘Chocolat’ fame), and over 25 magnificent Gardens to visit. Engaging activities include cycling, walking, swimming in nearby lakes, boating, canal trips, rock climbing, tennis (in village) and of course wine tasting.

Very warm welcome from super hosts, Theresa and Alistair. Gite was very spacious, comfy and clean. Lovely area with loads of excellent restaurants, even in the nearby town of Pouilly-en-Auxois. Very pretty walks (or cycle tracks) along the nearby canals and we had super days out in the historical Beaune and Dijon. Shared patio area a pleasant place to sit to eat al fresco, with countryside all around.
Very peaceful location with a gem of a gite.
Excellent property, very comfortable and well kitted out. Beautiful garden to sit and eat in. Local area very pretty, some lovely towns and rural areas such as the Morvan National Park. This is our third visit and we would definitely go again. Owners are very welcoming and good at recommending where to go.
What a fabulous place. Our hosts were very kind and helpful. We found ourselves so relaxed, as so peaceful. Beautiful surroundings. Great location to tour about. Definitely you love to go again.
That this was our 5th visit within the last 6 years should tell one what we find at both of the cottages. Both units (we have stayed in both) are super clean, beautifully decorated, supplied, and maintained. Theresa and Alistair are delightful hosts, and we now consider them dear friends. The rural location is peaceful, but also a perfect location to branch out daily to visit the countless places that give Bourgogne its well earned reputation for beauty, quaint villages, fine wine and food, and many ancient sites. We recommend these cottages without reserve!.
Words cannot describe how wonderful!
This was our second stay after too long an interval and nothing disappointed again. Clean, spacious, well equipped, comfy beds in the heart of Bourgogne and the most affable and inviting hosts in the person of Theresa and Alistair one could find anywhere. Most helpful with suggestions as to all attractions in the area. Convenient location just off of N 6 at Pouilly-en-Auxois and in a beautiful pastoral setting. Chene's description in the listing was spot on. We would unequivocally recommend this to anyone looking for a gite in this area.

What a delightful couple and really great to see them again. Couples like that make our business so enjoyable and worthwhile, and any other gite owners will be in for a really enjoyable week with them around. Do so hope they will come back again one day.
Pretty gite in great location
Easy to get to from Calais.Clean and comfortable rural gite in a beautiful garden.Great location for a first time visit to Burgundy equidistant give or take a few kilometres for Beaune and Dijon which are a must see. Also for exploring all the famous wine towns and discovering hidden gems.
We had very good weather and enjoyed dinner on the terrace most evenings after our days out. Easy to pick up food in markets and local super markets . Friendly owners and plenty of tips for sight seeing and eating/wine.
10 days not long enough at all.
Ideally situated for holidaymakers and house-hunters alike, just five minutes from the small traditional towns of Pouilly-en-Auxois /Creancey, motorway junction A6/A38 Paris/ Dijon/ Beaune, Lyon, and Arnay-le-Duc, with their excellent range of shops and restaurants. Calais is 5 ½ hours, Paris two and a half hours whilst Lyon and its Airport are 2 hours away and Geneva Airport two and a half hours.; Great opportunities lie within half an hour to visit, historic Dijon, magnificent Beaune, with over 100 Wine Cellars, and many nearby world-famous Wine Villages. Even closer is the tranquil Valley de l’Ouche with its Abbey and Chateau, above which, in the hills with extensive views, is Chateauneuf-en-Auxois. Nearby (12km) is the 4* Chateau de Chailly Golf Course. Forty minutes away are Alise (Cesar 52BC) and Abbaye de Fontenay 12C. (World Heritage). TGV/Eurostar Dijon/London, several per day change Paris under 7hr and one per day change Lille 6hrs. Other Activities: hot-air ballooning, canal barging, bird watching, wine tours & tastings. Golf: Marvellous Golfing opportunities, close to hand, are there for the taking. The nearest course, just 14km away, is set in the 150 acre grounds of the spectacular 4* Chateau de Chailly Hotel with excellent Restaurant and ‘al-fresco’ lunch in summer on the sun terrace overlooking the course. It is an 18 hole par 72 course with green fees at between 50 and 80 euros per day. Clubs and Trolleys can be hired per day. Slightly further afield, 30km, near Vic-sous-Thil is a very friendly, and picturesque 9 hole par 33 course with green fees under 40 euros a day, again equipment can be hired for the day whilst only 10kms from there is the medieval hill top village of Mount St. Jean with its excellent Restaurants. Alternatively, combine a visit to Beaune or Dijon with a half day of Golf at their respective courses. PLEASE NOTE that if looking for our property on Google Maps, we have noticed they sometimes show our neighbours farm much further along the lane. This is NOT our property. The farmer is a charming French man, but his property is very untidy and scruffy.! Please also note that the homeaway price in Euros is a guideline only and our price for the week in Euros is from 690 - 725 in Sapin, and from 565 - 595 euros in Chene depending on season, and which is fixed at the start of the Season.
