Guestbook comments from the manager

We arrived late in the evening to be greeted with a lovely fire and perfectly clean and cosy cottage. Waking to explore the gardens was such a treat and we all took to having hot chocolate in the gardens gazebo by the river ( in our coats ) to plan the day ahead . Great local area with lots to do and see and eat ! We adored the cottage and have recommended it already to all friends - would love to see it summer . great advice from owner Kate and she was even able to give us directions one afternoon by phone when we got lost in Waterford on a day trip - could nt be more helpful ! well done and we'll be back as soon as we can to stay longer !

Charming property

  • 5 of 5

Charming cottage in a tranquil setting. Perfect if you prefer to cook and eat-in (my wife has food allergies so eating out can sometimes be a challenge) as there are plenty of pots, pans, and dishes for whatever you are fixing. The only challenge some people may have is in the main bedroom, the foot end of the bed is rather close to the wall and people with extra girth would struggle to get around it. But the second bedroom has plenty of room to get to both sides of the bed, just a bit tighter down the sides. The owner is very friendly and quick to respond if there are any issues. We had a light bulb shatter and she even offered to have the caretaker come around to take care of it (we had already cleaned it up ourselves). Internet was a little slow but reliable. If we return to this area we would stay here again.

Great base for exploring all of Wexford!

  • 4 of 5

Scar Bridge is a really lovely quaint cottage in a great location in Wexford. The area itself is very remote however it gives you a good base to be able to visit the various sights and areas of interest in the locally and is within easy reach to numerous beaches and villages.

The garden is a great large open space with pretty apple trees and also some swings and small slides for anyone with small children (or pets). It also offers a picturesque private river that allows you the luxury to sit and relax by or to try your hand at fishing (brown trout being the local offering).

Inside is quaint and cosy and on arrival we were greeted with a warm inviting fire that gave it a real homely feel and immediately felt stresses of busy city life melt away. The kitchen has good space to move around yet the cooking area is compact - double hob or aga (extra cost to use in Winter) in actual kitchen but they have made good use of space with all the necessary modern equipment between the kitchen and utility area (oven, microwave , dishwasher and fridge freezer situ'd out of kitchen).

The snug area showcases large exposed stone fireplace with really great CD collection and comfy chair to relax and read if so desired and then you have the adjoining TV room with big couch, chairs and plenty of DVDs provided should the weather not be on your side for exploring. This room also has french doors that open out onto the side of house which is pretty but as it's close to main room safety measures are needed for animals and children.

Upstairs are 3 rooms and and a bathroom all very warm and again cosy albeit a little compact but that's part of the charm of Scar Bridge Cottage and we managed quite well with our time there. The master room has a 4 poster bed which is a lovely touch for those staying and add to the old romance of the property.

Outside was very tidy and well kept and has great space to explore and enjoy for little adventure hungry tots.

Inside again was very tidy and clean in each room however we realised after walking around we needed slippers as floors may not have been as spotless as the rest of the house.

Booking was easy and Kate was really lovely to deal with and I would recommend this property to anyone looking to escape, relax and enjoy Wexford either as a couple or with a small group.

A great location and a real retreat

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of adults who were visiting and working at the National Ploughing Championships held this year in New Ross. We had five very busy days in setting up and also in exhibiting there - you can imagine how tired we all were at the end of each day. It was a real pleasure to arrive back to the cottage so that we could put our feet up and relax in comfort; knowing that we didn't have to put on a face to meet the woman-of-the-house in a B&B, or skulk away to our individual rooms in a hotel, or worse, end up having to meet in the bar to discuss the day's work.

We were in Scar Bridge Cottage because of work; we worked better because of Scar Bridge Cottage.

All of us agreed that it was an ideal spot for a family get away, idyllic really, with the stream flowing at the foot of the (enormous) garden, a cosy fire place to stare into, a well appointed kitchen... I give this place five stars.

Brilliant family holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Ireland - and the cottage was perfect for us. We had a great welcome, everywhere was clean and as described. The bedrooms are on the small side but prettty - and it didn't matter as downstairs was very roomy. The kitchen was cozy for evening card games and two of us enjoyed reading in the snug while the others watched the World Cup! We had fun working out how to use the Aga. We took our cycles and had lovely rides to the beach - and our 3 adult children enjoyed trips to the nearest pub where they made great friends with the landlord and regulars. The pool table was an added bonus. We were lucky with beautiful weather and we made great use of the garden (some of the garden furniture was in need of repair). Thanks for telling us about the Farm Shop - a good source of treats and vegetarian foods. There is loads to do and see, plenty of variety from little fishing villages to large towns, and those amazing long sandy beaches.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at this beautiful cottage! we arrived late and it was very nice to be welcomed with fresh milk and cookies as we were very hungry. The housekeeper showed us and explained everything and was very friendly. We had some trouble with the central heating at first so it would never really cool down and the nights were really warm, but we managed to deal with the heating eventually. The AGA was really fantastic. You can cook great meals with it, which we enjoyed very much. Plus it provides a comforting warmth so we liked sitting at the big table in the kitchen. The living room seemed a little bit cold, it could definitely use another sofa plus the television should provide more channels. Apart from that we were absolutely happy with this cottage. The weather wasn't very nice so we couldn't use the large garden. The sandy beach at Ballyhealy was our favorite place. We also enjoyed shopping in Wexford. We can highly recommend this cottage and would love to come again.

Cosy Cottage

  • 4 of 5

What a lovely, cozy cottage. We spent a very relaxing week enjoying the peace of the countryside, the warmth of the aga, the lovely open fire in the snug, and the kids enjoyed the stream in the garden (fenced off for safety), the lovely large garden. Great family cottage with all the amenities (washing machine, large fridge-freezer, large tv, dvd, cd system) and very warm too despite the cold weather outside! Wonderful comfy beds and snuggly duvets. The kids enjoyed visiting the Dunbrody Famine Ship at New Ross and Hook lighthouse. We enjoyed a pint of Guiness and pub meal on Kilmore Quay (10 mins away by car).

All in all a great holiday.

Only disappointment was that the games room was too cold to venture into (mid Feb).

The owner, Kate was very helpful kindly answering all my questions prior to visiting and Mags the Caretaker is lovely and friendly.

My family and I (Kids 15 & 12yrs) would definitely recommend this lovely cottage to friends/family.

Notes:
we have converted the two stone stables to provide an additional summer garden chill out room for teenagers / kids . The second stable houses the pool table . Both have sunny aspect opening onto the oldstable courtyard with the river walled and fenced off to the rear. Access to the river is by gates, with steps to a platform , from which to dip toes, launch paper boats...Fish are small but plentiful and guests have some success with brown trout. Almost daily visits from a local heron confirm the fish are there ... see if you can catch them! The meadows across the river belong to the property also ... so feel free to explore. The upper lawn is about an acre , with mature trees surrounding it , completely private and underplanted with bulbs. Summer house and terraces provide sunny and shaded seating options. An acre of maintained lawn with small copse gives great picnicing and football opportunities, boules etc., Charcoal Weber bbq on request at euro15
