Lovely log fire and quiet surroundings.. Why not ask us to arrange Champagne /Flowers for that special occasion.Happy memories are important to us all. If you love birds then a visit to Tarnside is a must, we have Woodpeckers,Nut Hatch ,Gold Finch , Siskin and lots more. The log fire can be used all year round for those chilly nights. Enjoy collecting wood for the fire and lazy evenings on the Patio watching breathtaking Sunsets over the Tarn.Red Squirrels are resident in the tarn Woodland. We accept dogs as long as they under good control you can take them into the fields for a run. We train racehorses on the farm, so come and see them trained by Maurice who rode Rubstic to victory in the 1979 Grand National. Enjoy Golf at Brampton Golf Course, 5mins from Tarnside. KINGSIZE duvets on our double beds ,very comfy!! WIFI and Sky tv.

Great value for money holiday.

GREAT PLACE TO UNWIND.: The spacious lounge has a log burning stove, colour FreeView TV, CD & Radio and has wonderful views over the tarn - an ideal place to relax and unwind. The kitchen is equipped with every modern convenience and the dining area has french doors leading onto the patio. There is a good supply of Games and Books, please feel free to bring your own DVDs /CDs. A feature spiral staircase leads to the double bedroom, whilst the second bedroom is on the ground floor. Both bedrooms are beautifully appointed. Cyclists and Walkers can access the Train very easily from Tarnside ,we have had a couple who have done the whole of Hadrian's Wall from Tarnside on their bikes in a week !!!

Bathroom with shower. We have bird tables outside the cottage and there are anumber of visitors to them including the Woodpecker family who live locally!!Red squirrels are residents at the Tarn where they are fed daily. Both cottages are decorated regularly and kept to a high standard of cleanliness.

A truly relaxing place to stay.: There is a church in Brampton, St Martins, which has windows designed by William Morris, may be of interest to some of you !! Go to website for more info. Wandering around Brampton is an unhurried pleasure.

A perfect haven

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a quiet peaceful retreat, this is the place. We used this as a base while we explored the Lake District, and it was delightful to return to the sanctuary of this lodge after our busy days out. The lodge is very clean and comfortable and very well maintained. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the owners are very easy-going and did not intrude on our stay at all. The location is idyllic. It was lovely to watch the horses being exercised in the morning. If the weather is warm, the garden, with its view of the tarn, is a perfect place to relax, and the charming little garden birds and rabbits etc made a very pleasant change from the noisy pigeons and seagulls that I get in my garden! I highly recommend this place.

Great with small kids

  • 5 of 5

We travelled with our 4 yr old son and 2 yr old daughter. Both loved being able to runaround the fields, pet the horses and feed the chickens. Maurice and Anne made us feel that we had the run of the place! For adults the local scenery is stunning, the view from the cottages ideal for sundowners and the local pub, about 1 mile away, is a good option for meals. All in all a very chilled out stay. Would definitely recommend.

Waste of money

  • 1 of 5

I'm not being picky but no sky tv ( only free view ). No washing machine and no wi-fi. Very cold cottage.logs weren't replenished as promised and the log burners rope seal has disintegrated resulting in the fire burning out very quickly. Don't bother taking your mobile either.

Another lovely stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our 3rd visit to Tarnside Lodges, we first found this lovely place just over 11 years ago after we had got married and have now been able to get back twice in the past couple of years, don't want to leave and will keep coming back! It's a peaceful retreat to enjoy some time out. Looking over to the Tarn is lovely and being able to meet the horses and animals on the farm with a friendly atmosphere from everybody, nothing is too much trouble and you don't feel out of place. Our favourite place to relax.

Using your Tarnside Lodge as a base, you can take day trips to Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall, the Scottish Borders, the Lake District and more locally the Eden Valley and North Pennine areas. The Gretna Gateway Outlet Centre is only 20 minutes away by car. The Cumbrian Antiques Centre in Brampton is a wonderful way of shopping for antiques within a unique surrounding. WiFi installed March 2012.

If you want a totally stress free holiday/break, the local walks around Tarnside are well worth experiencing. There are a number of good local eateries including the Blacksmith's Arms in Talkin. Whilst relaxing at Tarnside, you can walk to the Tarn . We have 100 acres of land surrounding the farm, our Gallops are all weather and if visitors would like to see the horses out working that's OK.
