About the property

Designer Texas decor with 3 bedrooms/2.5 bathrooms, pool and firepit.

Professionally decorated in Texas cowboy-chic style by a well known New Braunfels designer and featured in the New Braunfels 2014 Holiday "Detour of Homes". Reclaimed wood floors from an old cotton gin in Galveston, a huge antler chandelier, antiques, homemade quilts and a real saddle barstool create the warm and relaxed feel of this home. Now available for monthly stays only--Winter Texans welcome! You will never forget your stay at the Gruene House!

Privacy, relaxation and fun are what you will get in this 2 story home--the closest private home located in the original neighborhood in Gruene. Providing more space and charm than a condo, this home combines modern amenities, the comforts of home and the best location in Gruene.

The home has the master bedroom with luxe, king bed and private bathroom on the ground level. The second and third guest bedrooms are upstairs-one with 2 double beds and one with one double bed along with a second full bathroom. A music/game loft opens to below and has a twin daybed for extra sleeping. Off the loft you exit to an elevated deck with living and dining area overlooking the pool. You will also find the private yard professionally landscaped with native flowers and plants. The birds are always chirping creating a relaxed atmosphere and melting away your stress.

Still the best feature is the custom designed Guadalupe river style pool complete with Hill Country Boulders and a jumping rock. The Gruene House has everything you need for outdoor entertaining including a firepit and outdoor kitchen area. Lots of space to spread out, lounge, swim, and play. This is where you go to CHILL OUT, Texas style!

If you get tired of playing and relaxing at home, the fun of "downtown" Gruene is only a one to two block stroll away. You and your group can pop in and out of Gruene Hall, the General Store or any of the many shops restaurants whenever you please! No driving down a dark, windy road or fighting for a parking spot in the village! No arguing about who wants to shop and who wants to get back to the house to relax by the pool or firepit. Gruene has something for people of all ages- shops, restaurants, live music, and the Guadalupe River--all within a short stroll from your private hideaway.

About Montie Krumnow

We live and work in Houston and get to Gruene as often as we can. We plan to retire in the area someday. In the meantime, work often gets in the way of spending more time in Gruene!

Montie Krumnow purchased this house in 2009

Why Montie Krumnow chose New Braunfels

We grew up driving 3 hours from Houston to New Braunfels and Gruene to float the Guadalupe and eat at the famous Gristmill. When we learned that this house was for sale, we thought we had found a secret treasure! We never knew there was this quiet neighborhood tucked away in the heart of downtown Gruene and that you could be so lucky to actually live there! The house didn't have a pool so in 2010 we built the custom designed pool to feel like the river is in front of you. The bubbling sound of the fountain and the green river-like water is soothing and relaxing (alot cleaner and less crowded!) We bought this house to share our secret with our friends, family and you!

What makes this house unique

This home is unique primarily because of it's location being a very short walk to all that Gruene has to offer. There is alot of new construction that is extending Gruene further out but it's a much further walk in the Texas heat. We love that we don't have to drive into Gruene for a drink, grab a bite or catch a live band. This is as close as you can get without staying in a condo. In addition, the home and it's decor is warm and inviting--like being on vacation at a bed and breakfast, not a sterile rental with no personality. We like having the space, privacy and peacefulness that you can't get with other properties.

Just as advertised!

Nothing about what we experienced was different than what was promised concerning this vacation rental. We were just steps away from Gruene Hall and all the fine restaurants in the Gruene Historic District. Every detail has been thought about and provided for inside of The Gruene House. Need a CD player? Reading material? A bicycle, one each for the two of you? Even a tooth pick? For us it became a game, "I bet they didn't think about ..." But they did! On top of all that, they were available and responsive, like when we needed just one more restaurant suggestion, or directions to Riley's Tavern, world's best dive bar. We are going back!!

Great place and location

Walking distance to everything. The backyard and pool was nice and comfortable even on 100 degree plus Texas summer days. We loved it!

Winter Texan from Colorado

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyable home that is well appointed. Home is within walking distance to Gruene Hall and good restaurants. The outside patio is lovely with a great fire pit and pool (owner wouldn't allow us to heat it) but our stay was Feb and March so we couldn't enjoy it. We never got used to the train noise at night. Whenever we had a problem the owner was quick to handle the situation.

Owner's Response: We don't heat our pool in the winter for such an extended time. We use the heater to take the chill off in the spring and extend the season a bit in the fall. This was discussed and agreed prior to renting the property. In the winter we enjoy the firepit, the view of the pool and sounds of the bubbling fountain.

Amazing house, Great location!!

  • 5 of 5

I recently rented this beautiful home in Gruene as i was in the area for business. From the moment i opened the door, i felt right at home! The Texas decor throughout the home was tastefully done. The owners have done a great job with many high-end upgrades. The pool and outdoor shower was a perfect way to end my evenings after a grueling hot day! The BBQ area and fire pit outside topped it off for a very relaxing atmosphere! The location couldn't have been any better with just a short walk into Gruene with great restaurants & unique little shops. I hope in the near future my work travels will take me back to this area, i would absolutely love to stay here again!

Would love to come back!

  • 5 of 5

Loved this house for our get-a-way! With 4 teens and 3 adults it fit us just right. We were tempted to just stay at the house because of the always cool pool, but we loved being in walking distance to Gruene. It was so nice to be able to run purchases back to the house on foot when our arms got too full. If we didn't take a stroll for dinner we were close enough for a run to the grocery store and the grill made it easy too eat in. The outdoor space is beautiful and even lit up the outdoor fire pit for s'mores. The bedrooms are luxurious and the beds are very comfortable. It was great to feel right at home unwinding in front of the TV in the living room, game room or bedroom before sleep. The outdoor shower rounded out the bathrooms, and who doesn't love taking a private outdoor shower? The house was immaculate, fresh and well maintained.

We stayed here for an extended time in the spring. This house is the best representation of down home Texas Hill Country living. You can not beat this location! It was so convenient to downtown Gruene....we didn't have to deal with the limited parking in the historic district. We had nice walks around the quiet neighborhood too. The back yard is a peaceful and private oasis where we were able to hang out as a group and swim and grill out when the town was super crowded. The fire pit was a great place to hang out in the evenings after dinner. The interior layout is perfect for small groups and families. Our kids loved the General Store, Tubing and all the fun in Gruene! The owner was very responsive when we were booking and during our stay. She was very helpful in giving ideas of what to do in town. We will be back next year!
