This is a smart 1960's purpose built block of apartments, all with terraces and central hot water and heating. The building is entered by a large marble foyer with two lifts available. Situated on the second floor, the Living Room, Kitchen and Bedroom all open onto the terrace through large glass doors. The floors are marble tiled and parquet in the bedroom. The whole place was refurbished by an Italian company to a high standard and has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with separate toilet. Walls are painted in soft pastels or white providing a clean relaxed ambiance. Simply but luxuriously furnished in imported antique Californian Lucite furniture, the light is reflected throughout. . The location is 2 minutes from the sea and restaurants/shops/supermarket but in a cul de sac away from the traffic. There are free but popular parking spaces down below. 20 min walk to old town, Place Massena and tramway. This is first and foremost my retirement home so please cherish!
INTERNET AND PHONE: Just to add that we provide Free Wifi and landline calls to most major countries of the world. We also have some access to English tv channels;
MEET AND GREET: All guests will be personally met with keys at the apartment.
I am retired but travel between the UK and France.
C Shells purchased this apartment in 2003
Loved it a first sight!
Feeling of light and calm - special ambiance.
My partner and I booked this apartment for his birthday during July 2008. It was the first time that we have opted for a private apartment and I must say that we had the most fantastic time ever. The very friendly owners picked us up from the airport, even though we had a delay and it was late at night. Our first impressions of the apartment was 'what a great place' and I can confirm that it is exactly as the photographs displayed on the site and I mean exactly - it is beautiful, spotlessly clean - I wanted to move in forever! The description of this apartment is totally accurate. It is literally 2 mins from the Promenade and the sea and really is in a ideal location to enjoy Nice. It is quiet and peaceful and the balcony is a great place to have a BBQ (yes there is a BBQ for you to use and we did) and a bottle of wine or two in the evenings. The balcony is also very sunny and great to sunbathe during the day. There is every modern convenience to use including a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer, microwave etc which made life easy if you prefer to eat in rather than spend lots of money eating out every night. The supermarket and bakery were just around the corner so it was very convenient to stock up the fridge with food and vino! We have friends who live in Nice and we entertained them most evenings and they told us that the apartment was in a 'posh' area of Nice! It is literally a 20 minute walk to Old Nice where there is a great selection of restuarants where you can eat outdoors. The owners were great and even called us after a few days to check that everything was ok. I would, and have, recommended this property to family and friends and will definitely book again for 2009 when we can decide on the date. If you book this property you will be delighted. Couldn't fault the property, spotlessly clean. Excellent service from Jane who waited at the apartment for us as we were delayed and gave us some invaluable advice about Nice and where to go and more importantly how to get there. Will definitely return and stay there.
Having stayed in many holiday apartments worldwide, this apartment tops them all for facilities and attention to detail.
It was scrupulously clean and the overall decor was delightful, relaxing and well maintained. The apartment was well heated (essential during our January stay) and there was constant hot water. The photographs and description are 100% accurate in detail but what we must stress is the fantastic range of "extras" provided from basic foodstuffs/beverages/toiletries to minor household items such as dishwasher/ washer tablets, washing up liquid, handwashes and soaps, notelets/pens, first-aid requirements and sunscreens etc - in fact a home from home.
Jane has a most friendly personality and is very welcoming and knowledgeable regarding the facilities in Nice. She telephoned during the week to check we were comfortable and stressed that she was always available if required. However, her printed leaflets were so comprehensive that nothing had been left to chance.
As it was winter and cold in the evenings we did not stray far into the town for an evening meal so found the restaurant on the corner Les Jardins du Capitol excellent value with a good menu and attentive service.
Due to the location and facilities we would certainly recommend Jane's property to friends and family.
Thank you ,Jane, for a relaxing holiday.
We had a lovely time staying at the holiday apartment. We were greeted with a very warm welcome, Jane is very lovely. It was spacious, comfortable, really well decorated and everything you could possibly want was available- all the necessities and more. The apartment is situated in a nice place, a two minute walk to the promenade/beach/restaurants and on a street very close to multiple boulangeries/patisseries and supermarche's which we found very handy when getting breakfast every morning. It is a little walk to the centre where there are more restaurants/shops/old town however this is a pleasant walk. Even the walk to the train station was not too bad to make, however if you didn't want to walk the apartment is conveniently close to bus stops which is great. We would definitely recommend booking this apartment, it was ideal and we really enjoyed our holiday!
Very well appointed with lovely touches .
Location good for beach access.
We found air conditioning system inadequate in bedroom and overall very stuffy inside - it was over 30 degrees during our stay.
I have just left La Barchetta, our second stay in Jane's chic flat in Central Nice. This is a super little pad that quickly becomes a home from home. That mattered less when we stayed in July 2011, but we brought the English weather to the Rivera this Easter (2012) so there were a couple of evenings when all we wanted to do was hide from the rain and stay off the wet streets. The full length balcony provided ample refuge from the rain but still allowed us to be outside and not get wet.
La Barchetta is located in a lovely part of central Nice, only one building stands between it and the calm aquamarine waters of the Mediterranean sea. One block away is the supermarket and around the corner, literally, are two great bakeries. Nice is wonderfully flat terrain unless you head out towards Mont Boron (recommended) so great if you suffer from limited mobility (the flat has two lifts as well). It takes about ten minutes gentle walk into the main shopping area, another five minutes from there to reach the market square where you will find (in our opinion) Nice's best restaurants. At night the market stalls are put away and the restaurants turn the square into a wonderful patchwork of al fresco eateries. Pizzas, steaks, fine French food and even Indian food can be found here, most at reasonable prices. But if you don't fancy the walk, try the restaurant on the corner of the road opposite the bus stop and Hi Beach, the food is lovely. And having Hi Beach practically on your doorstep is fabulous, especially if you like cocktails while you sunbathe! Whilst there are private beach areas in Nice, every other beach is public so don't listen to the gloom merchants who tell you all beaches are private and expensive; the beach closest to the flat is public and even in July we never struggled to get on it, but they are busy.
Getting to the flat is simple, as it's one building back from the Promenade d'Anglais and the bus stop is one minutes walk away. The buses serve the airport (15 mins into both terminals), Monte Carlo, Cannes, Antibes, Villefranche sur mer (sandy beaches) and many other places. Other than the airport €4 each way per person) the bus is €1 even to Menton, which is practically Italy. We also did the walk from the flat to Villefranche sur mer in about an hour. That is a super walk with dramatic scenery.
The flat itself is a large one bedroomed flat with a terrace running the full length and French doors f
Based 4 blocks down from the famous Negresco Hotel on the perimeter of the Carre D'or, the apartment is one block in from the sea in a quiet no -through road within a quiet residential building. It is 2 minutes from the beach and nearest restaurants, supermarket and all the private shops in Rue De France behind. All water sports available on the seafront. Fine art museums are within minutes walk. Day trips to Cannes, St Tropez, Monaco etc are easy by train or bus, as is the border of Italy. The old town with its cobbled streets and varied restaurants, Place Massena, the tramway and the main shopping centre is 20 minutes walk . The Port Leads to beautiful rocky coastal walks towards Ville Franche. Airport is 15 minutes on the bus and the bus stop is right outside on the promenade. Beautiful views from the hills and villages around and boat trips along the coast or out to Corsica/Sardinia during high season
