Private, yet right in town. Our newly refurbished guest house is perfect peace.
Lisa is a professor of literature of Salem State Univeristy in Salem, MA and Merritt is the owner of Senior Helpers - Boston North, a senior in-home care company. Once the kids left home, we moved from the suburbs into Boston. That's the second best decision we ever made on where to live. The first? Without question buying a home in Vermont. The people, the scenery. Its all fantastic and now its home. The minute we cross the border into Vermont, we feel the weight of the world lift from our shoulders. Vermont certainly works its magic on us. Our two kids (well, no kids really at 23 and 29, but to us...), their significant others, family, friends, all come to visit whenever possible. We love hosting and love sharing Vermont with those whom we love. And did we mention Satchel, our St. Bernadoodle? He's outstanding and Vermont works pretty well on him, too.
Owner purchased this House in 2018
Why Owner chose South Woodstock
We fell in love with this property the minute we saw it. Fifty six acres was more than we ever thought we wanted, but now maybe they are not enough. The main house is an architectural WOW! Its not "Vermonty" at all - unlike anything else we saw. Its modern with over 200 windows and angles all over the place. Its one of a kind. But it was standing on deck of the guest house, Aquene, when we said "this is it, this will be home."
What makes this House unique
Fifty six acres with groomed trails on the property. Easy access to South Woodstock stores; Green Mountain Horse Association; Village of Woodstock; and Woodstock Country Club. Completely refurbished in 2018. Hostess and Host who will do whatever is necessary to make your stay fantastic.
100% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 7 days before arrival date.
Wonderful Property! Great location.
This was my second stay at Aquene and it was great. Very peaceful setting and close to all that Woodstock has to offer. The home itself is loaded with modern conveniences and more importantly it is very clean and comfortable. The owner is also very accommodating. Book your stay....you will not be disappointed!
Thanks for such nice words. Mi casa su casa! Looking forward to your next visit and thanks for staying with us.
Beautiful home with everything you could possibly need!
Aquene was a beautiful property equipped with everything you could possibly want and need for your stay. Merritt and Lisa thought of everything! The house was furnished beautifully! They included every amenity you could possibly want or need. If you forget anything you most certainly could find it in the house. Merritt, Lisa and Satchel could not have been nicer and more helpful. They made us feel welcome from the very start.
The property is close to Woodstock Village but also far enough away to feel very private, quiet and secluded. It really was the best of both worlds. It was also close to area skiing which was convenient. We would definitely return here in the future.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We loved having you with us as much as you enjoyed being here. Looking forward to seeing you this summer and remember, dinner is on us!
A very special house - we truly loved it !
The guest house is as described by the owners - a very special place. The perfect place if you are looking for tranquility and enjoy Vermont at its best. The house allows you to ski Okemo or Killington or x-country ski in the area. Woodstock is a cute town nearby.
Thanks so much for such nice words. Looking forward to seeing you again. The perfect houses deserves the perfect guests and you guys are most definitely that. Thanks for staying with us.

Felt at home
great weekend get away
Amazing treehouse views with modern decor. Wake up surrounded by nature in a well furnished home.
For my wife and I this was our first time to visit Vermont and experience its beautiful foliage. The town of South Woodstock is super small and quaint but you are just a few miles drive from Woodstock, it’s history, shopping, and dining, as well as some very scenic nearby farms. We even attended a “community dinner” one night at the Masonic lodge. We also took an afternoon to drive farther north to Stowe. I enjoyed Stowe but it was very crowded and I was happy we had chosen the more secluded town of South Woodstock for our stay.
As for the house itself: SO COOL! From the moment we stepped out of our car onto the leaf strewn drive and saw the home surrounded by beautiful forest we knew we had made the right choice. The interior decor is clean and modern. All other activities aside, some of our favorite time was just drinking coffee and looking out the windows into the infinite forest. The main living area is the 2nd floor so you have a real treehouse feel.
Aside from breakfasts we didn’t cook much at the house, but it was well equipped with kitchen appliances for anyone that wishes to do so. Cell service is rare around many of these towns, but the Aquene house is high tech with WiFi, HD TV, and cable/Netflix ready to go.
I am Wishing we had stayed a little longer to make some use of the onsite hiking trails (literally right outside the front door). Perhaps our biggest regret was not discovering the Dale Earnhardt jr. Pinball machine until our last night there! The host checked in on us to make sure we were settled and had what we needed.
Our time in Vermont is already a treasured and unique travel experience and the hospitality of Aquene played a big part of that. We are honored to have been the first guests and I truly hope reading this convinces you to book a visit at Aquene to enjoy it for yourself.
