This is a 118-year old, gracious, completely renovated, family home on approximately ten acres of quiet woodland, looking out onto shimmering Torch Lake. There is a delightful front-yard sitting area that is perfect for conversation, reading, and enjoying the lake view.
Just below the yard, roughly 20 steps down to the lake, stretches 171 feet of sandy beach that slopes gradually into the sparkling, breathtakingly beautiful blue water. The waterfront is an ideal recreational area for children and adults of all ages, and includes a fire pit for evening cookouts, as well as beach furniture.
The house is fully equipped, well-appointed, open and spacious with lots of windows, and is paneled inside with cherry and knotty pine. The kitchen is fully equipped. Among the many other amenities: board games and a collection of books for children and adults.
This cottage is part of an extended family compound, flanked by homes owned and occupied by cousins from Southern Michigan and the Chicago area, and friends from Cincinnati. An atmosphere of community, peaceful co-existence and fellowship prevails throughout this serene, secluded area.
This is a superb spot for low-key, neighbor-friendly, family vacations, for those who wish to enjoy and appreciate nature's beauty, including stunning sunsets, and innumerable water-related activities.
Great spot! Everything you need for a week away is there, including WiFi, and in a beautiful old turn of the 20th century home. The photographs do not do it justice. You will be very pleased.
Quiet, private, great beach and lake bottom, and a pleasant and responsive owner and manager.
Our family of older adults, their children and spouses and grandchildren had lots of room to be together and to be apart.
Super close to Alden and Belle Aire, which are nice little towns to visit on a rainy day.
We just returned from the best week and this place was perfect. The house has plenty of room for gatherings in addition to hideaways. The beach is fabulous. Location on the lake is key!!! South East location is where you want to be. The house is fully stocked with everything you would possibly need. The owner is wonderful and very responsive to anything needed. Look no further, this is your dream vacation rental!!
Our family stayed at Henlopen Cottage in July 2006 and had a perfectly wonderful week. The setting is fantastic w/ a beautiful view of the lake and a short walk to the beach. The cabin was very comfortable and was perfect for games, reading abd being together. We couldn't possibly have nhada more enjoyable vacation - highly recommended.
Stayed at Henlopen Cottage in June, 2006. The accommodatioins were perfect for our family (2 teenagers and a 4 yr.old). The property was exactly as we had imagined. It was very peaceful. Torch Lake is beautiful and the beach front was key. Since we brought our boat, the proximity to the marina was convenient. Enjoyed nearby towns of Bellaire and Alden. I would give our experience the highest of recommendations.
This is a lovely home, very vintage and rich with history. The beach area is undeniably the best on Torch Lake, in an alcove and very private - The water us breathtaking!. If you are looking for a vacation where you truly get away from everything this is the spot.
Be sure to have lunch at the Dockside, visit historic Alden and go early for dinner at LuLu's.
We rented a boat for the week, and not being avid boaters worried a bit about the traffic on the lake, to our surprise the traffic was relatively light and we were very comfortable.
Several nearby championship golf courses, Tennis courts in Alden, Basketball court in Alden, Wildlife Viewing (including at Grass River Natural Area), Concerts in the park in Alden on Thursday nights, Watercraft rentals available at Clam River (one mile North)

This home has been in the family for nearly 120 years, and is part of a unique area on Torch Lake that also is home to family members and friends of the owner. Expectations are that the home/surrounding property will be treated with utmost care and respect. Loud, late-night partying is absolutely prohibited and will be dealt with measures up to and including immediate eviction and calling police.
Half the rental amount is due, along with a signed contract, at the time the reservation is made. The balance of the rental amount, plus the required 6% Michigan use tax and a $1,500 damage deposit (preferably a separate check) is due at least 60 days prior to arrival. Failure to remit the balance 60 days in advance may result in loss of reservation and initial payment; owner's discretion.
