About the property

Mundesley is a village on the North Norfolk coast, about 7 miles eastCromer. The bungalow is on the prestigious Hillside on the East-cliff, just a few hundred yards from the cliff edge which has views of the sea and surrounding villages. The bungalow itself is south facing and has views of the countryside and Paston Mill,and fields with horses just a few yards away. Mundesley is a short drive from Cromer (7 miles) Sheringham (10 miles) Blakeney (15 miles) The Norfolk Broads (15 miles) Great Yarmouth (25 miles) Norwich (25 miles). It is a great place for both a relaxing family holiday, and for exploring the North Norfolk coast, which is famous for it's craftsmen and fine cuisine. Wroxham Barns and Alby Crafts are each about a fifteen minute drive. Or just relax on the veranda on a recliner, sheltered from the North sea breeze.

2 bedrooms, the main bedroom with a double bed and the second has 2 single beds. Both have double built in wardrobes and drawers for storage. The bathroom has a large walk in shower, toilet and sink with a vanity unit which stores a first aid and shoe shine boxes. The kitchen is fully equipped with high quality saucepans and cooking trays, with added extra's to make life a little easier, Sabatier knives, 2 cast iron cooking pots, cast iron griddle pan, coffee machine, spice rack with 16 herbs and spices, fresh sea salt and black pepper, foil/cling-film, food storage containers, Viners cheese board and knives. The oven is fan assisted electric with a gas hob. There is a fridge with a small freezer section in the top. A butchers block for preparation with storage baskets for food. The lounge has a double futon sofa bed and 2 reclining chairs, contemporary electric fire, and free-view television. Outside on the veranda there is a Rattan dining table and chairs seating 4 people for Al Fresco dining in the sun.

South facing it attracts the sun all day. It is not overlooked by any one else. The site is private and quiet, a short walk from the beach and the village. North Norfolk is a beautiful area, a short drive from Cromer, Sheringham, The Norfolk Broads, Great Yarmouth and Norwich. Mundesley itself is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It's visitors return year after year. The local's are friendly and welcoming and happily organise Antique and Craft Fairs, Art Exhibitions, Bingo in the local village and church Halls which they are proud to do to welcome visitors and holiday makers. I have visited north Norfolk since i was a child and i can honestly say there are still places to discover, things i just didn't get time to do and new adventures.

Plenty to do for children, crazy golf, an amusement arcade on the sea front as well as a park. Great Yarmouth is about a 30 minute drive which has a large funfair in the summer. Sheringham has a pool with a water chute and wave machine again. The bungalow has tennis rackets, swing ball, bats and balls, body board, cricket wicket and bats, lines and buckets for crabbing, buckets and spades for the beach all sorts to keep them occupied.. The pubs and bars allow children in the lounges and there is a park and a skate park close to the village. The bungalow is on the cliff top so the beach is 5 minutes They won't get bored.

I'm Peter, i have my own house in Peterborough about a 2 hour drive from Mundesley. I work as a personal trainer. I enjoy playing tennis, gardening and cooking. I was a quarter-finalist on the BBC programme 'Masterchef' back in the first series. My recipes made the 'Best of Masterchef' with a copy in the bungalow. I have given a lot of thought to the kitchen, utensils and equipment so that you can prepare and cook food quickly and easily. I have my own hens and make my own preserves which I sell on-line and at Craft shows

Why Mr Peter Bruce Gerald Edwards chose North Norfolk & Coast

I've recently become proprietor of the family bungalow which my father has owned since 1979. Prior to that we were visiting Hillside from as early as i can remember every summer.I was about 3 or 4 years old. I have the most amazing and happy childhood family memories there. The bungalow i find so peaceful and relaxing and I've put 100% into making contemporary updates while still keeping it's unique character. The kitchen table is the original table as are the wall heaters in the bedrooms circa 1965. I think they look stylish and retro within their contemporary surroundings. I find Mundesley a magical place which shows in my enthusiasm and approach to renting the bungalow.

What makes this bungalow unique

The bungalow is south facing so attracts the sun all day. it is one of the only bungalows with a veranda, so you can sit out in the sun and the veranda acts as a wind break. There are recliner chairs and directors chairs to use on the veranda. The north facing bungalows have a sea view but are in the shade and the wind and during the winter nights, facing south makes such a difference. It has amazing views of the countryside and Paston Mill which lights up at night. The surrounding fields are filled with horses which make it even more special. i can email some short videos of the view from the south side and the north side. There are buckets and spades, swing ball, crabbing lines, a body board, cricket wickets, bats and balls, everything to keep the children happy. There are wind breaks for the beach too.

Housekeeping is included in the price, with all beds made up for you. Bath towels and bath mats are provided, hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom, tea towels, cleaning cloths and products. Tea and filter coffee, toilet roll and kitchen roll. When available i include fresh free range eggs from my hens and complimentary preserves (home made chutney and Jam) Hygiene is paramount, and you will find the bungalow meticulously clean, so you are guaranteed relaxation on your arrival. If for any unforeseen circumstances, which are very rare, a housekeeper is not available, i will notify you as soon as possible and offer you a suitable price reduction.There is an electricity meter in the bungalow which works with a payment key. Credit for the meter can be purchased at a number of the local shops, the nearest being the local post office. Full details of pay-point outlets are available in the bungalow.

Holiday home with character

I spent many summers as a kid in my nan's bungalow a couple of doors down so knew what to expect. The properties are and never were luxury but for me it added to the hols from a nostalgia perspective.

My kids loved thier time away and will definitely return. The owner is very honest on the minor jobs needed but more than made up for it by offering us a longer stay

Would recommend if you fancy relax and few days by the sea. hope to be back soon.

Not the type of place I want to stay at.

We enjoyed our holiday but not the property.

On arrival there was a note telling us about the wardrobe door off its hanger and inoperable and he had not had time to fix it even though it had obviously been like this for some considerable time. The place had been superficially cleaned but it was certainly not meticulously clean as he states on the web site property details. Nothing had been moved for some time to clean under or behind. As stated in a previous review the doubled glazed windows in the lounge and kitchen were blown and there was condensation in between the panes so you were unable to see out, must have been like this for quite some time. The plug in the bathroom sink needed a rubber seal fitting so it held water such an easy job to do. The double bed had virtually no padding left and you could feel the springs when you laid on it. The toaster had two separate sides to it but if you used the right hand side it would blow the main switch on the consumer unit, which is very dangerous and to switch it back on you had to climb on a chair to reach the switch because there were no steps to use and at the age of 79 it is not a thing I like to do. There was no handle on the bathroom window so this could not be closed from the inside and could not be locked, the door into the property was in very poor condition. The shower was not working as it should do according to the instructions given by the owner. None of the carpets were held by their grippers and the carpet was loose leaving potential tripping hazards except between the lounge and the kitchen floors it had been stuck down with gaffer tape. As a person who has been in the hospitality trade I consider the customers comfort is paramount it would seem Mr Edwards does not think in this way. If this is the type of property Owners Direct have on their web site I will not use it again.

Shabby, run down, overpriced

A lot of what Rosemary M writes in her review is accurate. The property looks like it was once a lovely place to stay, but over time has deteriorated. The current state of the property is not accurately reflected by the photos. The owner says that there have been a number of guests who have damaged parts of the property, and I believe him, however he did not offer any reduction in price, or any immediate fixes, which would have improved *our* week. He has tried to put some nice things in, like excellent WiFi, complementary tea/coffee, etc. but there are much bigger issues with the property that cannot be remedied so easily.

On the plus side, the kitchen is quite good and the location is excellent being only 5 minutes walk from the beach. It also has very nice views, except that you can't see them through the damaged double glazing.

Needs a good clean and upgrade

On arriving at the property it was rather neglected, rundown and dilapidated in contrast with the surrounding properties. There is a hole in the porch ceiling and the double glazed windows to the front are blown and misted with condensation. On entry it was shabby and although appeared superficially clean, on closer inspection it had obviously not had a deep clean for sometime. The very tatty carpet was folded back in front of the door to the bathroom and bedrooms to enable the door to open creating a trip hazard. The carpet gripper between kitchen and sitting area was loose and also a trip hazard.The kitchen area was well equipped and had been cleaned to a better standard. The grouting in the shower had black mould and the floor grouting was dirty. There were quite a few broken items: the toilet roll holder, shower door handle, the bathroom window handle, a very wobbly toilet seat, and the sink would not hold water. In the double bedroom the wardrobe door was jammed. In the twin room one of the headboards was detached. In both rooms there was dust and cobwebs behind and under the furniture. Mr Edwards emailed me on 26 May detailing some of these problems (I did not pick up the email until 1 June) and offered an extra night's stay in compensation, which, had it been possible to stay an extra night, we would not have accepted. It was very disappointing that the property did not live up to expectations, especially as it is in such a good location. Mr Edwards makes a point of saying that the property is 'scrupulously clean' but it certainly is not and he needs to raise his standards in this respect. Apart from the location I really cannot find any plus points.

Lovely chalet in brilliant location

The chalet was very comfortable and clean. It was very well equipped and the extra touches of complimentary tea, coffee, mineral water and milk were most welcome. Also well stocked with basic cooking ingredients. We also found the windbreak very useful and there is a stock of toys for the kids. There were one or two small things which needed doing, but the owner was aware of them and was most apologetic. They were mainly things which had been broken by a previous visitor and really didn't bother us at all. But it was a shame that the seal in the double glazing had gone as this did impair what is a wonderful view from the chalet window. However, overall we were very pleased and would certainly book this chalet again. It is on a very quiet and friendly site, close to the beach and cliff top walks, but also well within walking distance of the village. Overall a very nice chalet in a very nice location. I would highly recommend it. The owner is also very quick to respond to queries and gives very comprehensive information about the chalet and general area.

Relaxing and tranquil

We appreciated the cold Perrier and fresh milk in the fridge on arrival, and also a box of fresh eggs for breakfast. The complimentary toiletries were a nice touch and there was no shortage of hand and bath towels. The beds were made up and were comfortable. The owner provided a good selection of kitchen utensils and crockery, the gas rings were easy to use and the electric kettle worked fine. The view was private and the three horses that live in the field are friendly. The bungalow is situated a short coastal walk from the town, very pleasant in the summer. The accommodation was very clean but the windows will need replacing soon as they are showing their age. We did not meet the owner but he communicated clearly by email and was very helpful.

A short walk down the cliff path takes you to the beach. There is no need to go out onto the road. A little further down and you reach the village. Surrounding areas can be easily accessed via car or public transport. There are three hotels within walking distance from Hillside. The Royal Hotel, The Ship Inn and The Manor Hotel. All welcome non residents into their bars and restaurants and all have family areas. There is also Bar Victoriana and The Haig Club which you can join on a temporary basis for cheaper drinks and food. The local village has a selection of shops and boutiques, including a bakery, butchers, post office, coastal pharmacy and galleries supporting the fine local Arts and Craft talent.
