About Charlie Sproule

We have a romantic history with Jim Thorpe. Family of ours owned hotels and a bottling company during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As sometimes happens, the accountant ran away with all the money, so we just get to look at our lost inheritance and think about what might have been. Jim Thorpe was the first place we vacationed together as a couple and was the site of our wedding ceremony on a gorgeous May day. It's a place where our family toiled in the mines and in the sewing factory and raised their kids. It’s where every street had a bar and a church and people you dated had to live within walking distance. Now, Jim Thorpe is about artists, adventure and the art of dining, all of which we believe in and support. We can mountain bike, hike or antique and then dine on American cuisine or attend the strawberry festival at a local church. We like it all and are local business owners in the town and committed to its continuing success.

Birthday in the poconos

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely adored this home!! Stayed here last September with family for a weekend birthday getaway. House is beautiful, and extremely conveniently located within walking distance to everything in the downtown area. Jim Thorpe is one of our favorite places. One of the most charming places we've ever been . This home was very clean and the decor is stunning. Home owners were very friendly and informative as well!! Definitely going to be staying here again!! Thankyou so much!!

Great Stay in Heart of Jim Thorpe

  • 4 of 5

My partner and I decided to head to Jim Thorpe for a couple day get away. After much searching I selected this VRBO and wasn't disappointed. It's easy walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and activities in town.

I'm not sure how old the house is but it is clearly hand crafted. Many of the rooms are unique and out of square. The unit is well decorated and comfortable. There is a living room on the first floor, a porch off the front and a sitting room overlooking the street on the second floor. We took advantage of all these areas for relaxing and watching the comings and goings on the street while enjoying a cool beverage.

We used the bedroom on the second floor but there were two additional BRs on the third floor. The room was spacious as was the full bath and kitchen. The open architecture on the first floor would be convenient for enjoying group dinners socializing.

One big plus was the owner who was very accessible and accommodating. It turns out he runs a local restaurant within easy walking distance which we also visited and can strongly recommend.

I did not give a five star review for one reason. We visited on a hot humid weekend and these old houses don't have central air. There is a nice overhead fan in the living room and window AC in the bedrooms but the units were a little louder than we were used to with central air. Most of the time this is not an issue with the weather being cooler up in the mountains.

Consider this VRBO if you are looking for a quiet place to stay with interesting architecture and furnishings that is close to the center of town without the congestion.

great weekend! perfect spot!

  • 4 of 5

Met family in Jim Thorpe to do a fly fishing trip and found this house to be the perfect location. The house was big enough for all of us with great common space to spend time catching up. The front porch was just large enough to sit and watch all the passers-by headed into town. We would most definitely rent again. Thanks so much for the opportunity to stay in this historic house. We met the owners because we happened into their restaurant on Race Street, which was absolutely fresh and delicious.

Great house, perfect for family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this home to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. The house was perfect! It was very clean, well stocked with everything we needed to have a perfect family dinner. It is also in a great location, walkable to the many shops and restaurants in downtown Jim Thorpe. I would definitely rent this house again. Thank you!
