Landscaped Acre Surrounds Classic Art & Craft Bungalow. Great Views. In City.
I am a semi-retired Real Estate Broker. Much of my free time is now spent indulging my love of the outdoors (biking, hiking and traveling), which allows me the opportunity to either sublet or exchange my home in my absence. Because my schedule is flexible, I can accommodate a three month stay with the possibility of extending. I have a private entrance into my owner suite and should time and schedules allow, I may briefly overlap your stay. Should that be the case, I will make myself available to answer any questions you may have about the house or the area. My owner suite is a separate wing, off the main portion of the house, and will not interfere with your complete privacy. In my absence, I have a property manager/housekeeper, Christine, who oversees my home. You will have her contact information should you need assistance with a home issue while I am away.
Pam purchased this Bungalow in 1999
Why Pam chose Asheville
When we first discovered this architectural gem, we immediately fell in love with the home's character. Perched on the hill overlooking Biltmore Village, we couldn't help imagining what this house had "seen" over the past 100 plus years. She was, however, in dire need of much TLC. So much so, many of our friends and colleagues thought we were crazy to tackle this project. The renovation was a joy and a privilege. We discovered a lovely set of leather journals and several photographs behind a false panel in the house. The journals cover the period of time before, during and after the construction of the house in 1914. They hint at day to day life in Biltmore Village a 100 years prior to my typing this account. Information in the journals led us to believe that many of the artisans and craftspeople who worked on the Biltmore House may have helped in the construction of this home, as well. Biltmore Village, now home to unique shops and restaurants, was originally built by George Vanderbilt to house the artisans and craftspeople he brought to Asheville to work on the Biltmore House. Many stayed in the area to continue their lives here after the Biltmore House was completed. Another journal reference tells of Mrs. Edith Vanderbilt hosting a parade and reception in Biltmore Village for the veterans returning home from World War I. As you may imagine, we were thrilled to find this connection to the history of this house and its original owners. I am so grateful to own this little slice of history and am happy to be able to share my tiny piece of Asheville with others who, hopefully, appreciate its history as well. I do hope you enjoy your stay!
What makes this Bungalow unique
I love the location. I think you will find convenience, coupled with a little more outdoor space than you might expect for an urban setting, a major plus. Since this home has served as my primary residence since 1999, I can attest to its convenience firsthand. Proximity to main roads make travel quick and easy to grocery stores, malls, movies, local attractions (Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway, numerous hiking and biking trails, craft breweries, etc). Also, Mission Hospital is less than 2 miles away, making my home a wonderful homestay for individuals who may need extended stay options. It is also an ideal interim home for those looking to explore the area with the idea of relocating. I can offer flexibility in long term monthly stays.

Great Get Away Location - What a Fantastic House !
I was looking for a place to spend a few weekends in Asheville to get some much needed R&R after working in Columbia SC helping with the flood recovery effort. I am a big fan of B&B's and old restored craftsman homes but with all the comforts of home. I travel a LOT and know what I like in a hotel or rental. Pam's place is simply incredible! She has done an incredible job of totally restoring a 1914 period home to its original condition, but with all the creature features of the 21st century. And all the furniture and finer finishings make the places so interesting and comfortable. I felt right at home!
It's also real close to the Biltmore Estate and shopping and literally less than 5 minutes to downtown Asheville/ Broadway and Patton. Loved the location.
I hate even telling others about the place because I want to rent it more this coming fall and hate to let others in on this diamond in the rough. Once word gets out as it is a new listing on VRBO I am sure she will have bookings all the time. Remember me when I need a place to stay in Asheville Pam! It was one of my favorite places to stay ever! My son and I REALLY enjoyed the place and look forward to coming up and staying at your house a few more times this fall and winter!
A Charming Piece of History
We are just finishing our 4 night stay in Asheville, NC at the California Craftsman. This home is beautifully decorated with interesting furniture and art, and immaculately clean, with a wonderfully landscaped yard and porch. Towels, linens, etc, were all spotless. Pam also provided guidebooks based on our interests: breweries for my son and his wife, nature for me.
The location is outstanding...you are literally a stone's throw away from Biltmore Village and its wonderful shops and restaurants and a few minutes' drive from downtown Asheville and its quirky boutiques and bistros. Biltmore Estate (a day's worth of sights, at least) is a half-mile away. On our one rainy day, we took the LaZoom tour that Pam recommended and learned a little of Asheville's history and had some laughs along the way, as well.
The only issue we had was we did not want to leave! Trust me, you will not be disappointed!
Asheville has a million activities to entertain a wide variety of tastes and interests. From fine dining to food trucks...we have the best of both. To begin, I recommend getting familiar with the shops, restaurants bars and brew pubs in the immediate area of Biltmore Village. Check out the website: historicbiltmorecom . We have Lilly, Lulu, the J's (Jill and Crew); and our locally owned shops Bellagio and Monkee's for your clothing and accessory fix. Be sure to check out Dwellings (one of my personal favorites for home gifts, decor and furnishings), New Morning Gallery (a source for great artisan jewelry at surprisingly affordable prices... among other things),and the Southern Highlands Craft Guild for some of the finest examples of local craftsmanship in every conceivable medium. Biltmore village has a wide array of dining options, too. Be sure to check out Moe's original barbecue for great ribs and down home cooking; the Corner Kitchen for very inventive breakfasts; the Cantina for a Biltmore quesadilla; and Rezzaz's is an excellent choice for fine dining. Foodies will be dazzled by all the choices Asheville has to offer. Some of my other favorites include Curate and Table in downtown Asheville, as well as the Admiral in West Asheville (don't be fooled by its humble setting).
Our homegrown breweries produce some of the finest local craft beers in the country, which has put Asheville on the map as "Beer City USA." Be sure to check the newest breweries in the hip south slope section of town...like Funkatorium... Ever had a sour beer???
If your tastes lead you to outdoor adventures; you have choices. You can hike, bike, raft, or take an exhilarating zip line through the mountain canopy of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Road biking happens to be my particular passion. For a very reasonable membership fee, you can access hundreds of detailed, turn by turn road rides in and around the Asheville area by joining the local bike club...Blue Ridge Bicycle Club. It will be the best $25 you spend if you are an avid cyclist or a novice. Your support of the club will also further bicycle advocacy in the area. www.blueridgebicycleclub.org
The Biltmore Estate, aside from its obvious allure of house and grounds, also has a first rate outdoor center you may also want to explore. If you have never visited the estate, it is well worth the price of admission to experience all that is offered...and it is literally just out the front door of BILTMORE BUNGALOW. If you are planning a visit there, be sure to check their website in advance for special pricing, events, and seasonal guidelines. www.biltmore.com
So, let me know your interests and I will try to supply you with more information to enhance your stay. I love Asheville and want you to have a wonderful experience during your visit.
