About Moey Newbold

My name is Moey, and my grandfather built this home in the 70s after the original camp burned down across the point.

Moey Newbold purchased this house in 1900

Why Moey Newbold chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

The property has been in the Newbold family for over 100 years. Great-grandfather, George Wharton Pepper of Philadelphia, helped establish the tradition of vacationing on Mount Desert Island, making the journey each summer even before cars were allowed on the island.

What makes this house unique

Quiet, calm and peace. Enjoy Maine as it should be!

It was the first visit to MDI for our family of five. Our stay at Tern II was fantastic, the house had everything we needed, it was quiet and the views were awesome. We enjoyed a lot of hiking around MDI, fresh lobsters and kayaking with the seals. It was a very relaxing vacation that everyone enjoyed. Although we had to dodge some raindrops it did not stop us from any of our activities. We look forward to another visit in the future and a stay at Tern II. Thanks for opening up your house.

Couldn't have asked for more!

We were first timers to Maine and Acadia. We had heard from many people we know about the crowds in the park. Initially, we debated changing our plans for vacation because we were trying to escape the hustle and bustle of our everyday life. We are glad we didn't.

The Tern II is an amazing property. We were all taken with the peace and quiet of the property not to mention the beauty of both the house itself and the landscape. The house is rustic and charming with room for everyone to hang out together or find their own space. The views from the windows and deck overlooking the ocean were gorgeous watching the changing tides and the abundant wildlife. Sitting out on the deck at night, I don't remember the last time I had seen so many stars.

We found the house stocked with everything we could possibly need - cooking utensils, towels and extras most rental homes don't include. The location is very convenient to the park and restaurants yet far enough away to be able to escape the crowds.

Overall, there isn't anything negative that I can say about our stay here. It made for a relaxing and memorable family vacation.

September To Remember

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's first visit to Maine and Acadia. Renting this house was the best plan we made for the trip. The quiet serenity, the wildlife, and the scenery were all amazing. The house is rustic like a cabin and well equipped like a family home. We spent our mornings watching harbor seals and identifying birds including bald eagles, osprey, loons, cormorants, various woodpeckers (including a pileated pair), kingfishers, and forest songbirds. An eagle landed in a tree right off the deck when were were eating our first breakfast. We were visited by deer and red squirrels. We hated to leave and cannot wait to return. Tern II is an enchanting place to spend a week or more. Definitely bring binoculars, even if you are not an active birder. Also: The restaurants in the small towns around the island are outstanding. Red Sky and Sips in Southwest Harbour are excellent, just to name two.

After visiting Maine for the past 5 years and staying at a different rental each time, I've finally found the perfect place to stay. We had 8 people on our vacation and we all had plenty of room to spread out and relax. The kids played non-stop at the water capturing and releasing crabs and other marine life. The location is private but not too far from town. My husband and I loved sitting in the adirondack chairs on the back deck with a glass of wine and watching the beautiful sunsets. It was clean and well stocked for our visit. Thanks for a lovely time. We will be back!

Another wonderful visit to Clan Newbold's lovely property! The view incredible, comfy beds, quiet property, and everything you need in the house so it's just like being at home except you're in a Maine paradise. :) The view from the deck to Blue Hill mtn is incredible! And so fun to watch the seals, terns, seagulls, and occasional kayaker go by... :) We are planning a 4th visit for next June :) as this is our favorite place to be on the island :) Thank you to Clan Newbold for sharing your home with us! Looking forward to next year :) hugs! Clan Aguirre, Texas :)

Our stay at Tern II was wonderful; it was perfect for 3 (or 4) adult couples with their own bedroom and bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen, and incredible views from the living room and the deck. It is exactly as described.
