About Shane Quimby & Jess Nelson
Hi! We are Shane, Jess, little Owen and pup Samara. Together we own, enjoy and run ‘The Quimby Cabin.’ Shane has been busy remodeling, restoring and hosting guests in this cabin for the last 4 years, Owen has been giving directions (and taking naps) for the last 2 years and this is Jess’ inaugural season with the rental. We are all so excited to welcome you in! Shane is from a small farm town in Illinois, however Montana was always on his mind. After life and work took him from Illinois, to a home within Yellowstone National Park and then to Minnesota, he made his way out to Gardiner to reside full time in 2012. In addition to the rental, Shane runs a woodworking business, Badger Creek Rustic Furniture, which has created not only most of the furniture in this home, but in homes and businesses around town. Owen is Shane’s main man who will be celebrating his second birthday this summer. When he’s home, he helps out by providing smiles and giggles and has a real passion for driving his dump trucks around the yard. Jess hails from the great state of Minnesota and while she has been out to spend time with Shane during the 7 years they’ve known each other, it wasn’t until this summer that it made sense to move out. She loves solo traveling, arts and crafts, baking, photography and most certainly, cats. Since quitting her desk job 5 years ago, she lived in New Zealand, photographed dairy cows in Portugal, cooked for a family in France and served pizza and beer at a top restaurants in Minneapolis. Sitting still is not her forte, so she’s funneling that crazy energy into projects at home and around Gardiner, including family photography sessions through her business Chocolate Moose Images. Together we hope our active, passionate and hospitable natures come through during your stay with us. We are available should you want to chat about life and the area or else we make ourselves scarce should you want to focus on the peace and solitude of the view.

Why Shane Quimby & Jess Nelson chose Gardiner
Gardiner and the surrounding ecosystem is magical. It was through a lot of hard work and a little bit of serendipity that the property came to be in my hands, however I put everything I have into it to yield a magical retreat for others to enjoy.
What makes this Cabin unique
We think the view from our property is the best in Gardiner. The cabin sits above the Yellowstone River and looks directly into Yellowstone National Park with views of the Black Canyon of the Yellowstone, Rattlesnake Butte, and Mount Everts all from the kitchen window. We’ve been known to have elk, bison, bighorn sheep, mule deer, marmots and other critters walking around the property and even bedding down in the back yard. Other animals spotted in the surrounding hillsides includes black bear, wolves, coyotes, foxes, waterfowl, and various song birds. We feel this property is within comfortable walking distance of everything in town; restaurants, adventure companies, the North Entrance of Yellowstone and even to the super market (.5 mile away).

Although the pictures are beautiful of Shane and Jess's home they simply don't do it justice! The panoramic window in the kitchen overlooking the river is simply stunning. We were so comfortable in their perfectly appointed home and thought Gardiner was an adorable town. We were able to explore Yellowstone easily from Gardiner for two full days. As soon as we left my kids were asking to go back :)
Owners very friendly & helpful with the area. Would definitely recommend it.
Wonderful view and family place
Wonderful wonderful spot, do many thoughtful touches
Very nice house, in a great location.
We loved Quimby Cabin the minute we walked in! The views were amazing! The full kitchen was great! The location was so convenien right at the entrance of the park and in town, walking distance to everything! It was so hard to leave!
I have a feeling, we’ll be back!
A great place to stay if your visiting Yellowstone. This place allows you to take a break from the car as downtown is one block away with shops, and restaurants. Plenty of room to relax and enjoy the stunning view from the back deck. Would definitely come back.
Gardiner, MT is the only year-round entrance to America's first national park, Yellowstone. Stay with us any season and see what this wonderland has to offer. From skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, to hiking and white water rafting in the summer, it has something for everyone.
If you are looking for personal wildlife tours, we can highly recommend three local biologists who provide some of the best experiences Yellowstone can offer.
