Guestbook comments from the owner

Comments:

My original comment from November 2007 read: We loved your chalet and plan to return again next year. It was very comfortable, private and had everything we needed. We spent most of our evenings outside by the fire. What more can you ask for...It was great!

We have been back every year since then. We had reserved the chalet April, 2011 and a week before we were to arrive I received an phone call from the Dane informing us there was some unexpected damage to the chalet and we could not stay there. In the case like this, I thought we would have to make other arrangements ourselves. To my surprise, Dane offered to find another place nearby. He found a place, contacted me the next day, and our vacation was back on schedule. We plan to go back to Dane's chalet in October. It is comfortable, private, easy to find...the perfect place to vacation.

Cozy, clean, and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

This dog friendly retreat was just what we needed. Hiking, boating on Fontana Lake, plus a lazy rainy day to read, play games and watch a movie. Well stocked kitchen, nice linens, fun watching older movies on VHS too. A great trip!

Nice small house

  • 5 of 5

I took my grandson to the mountains for a few days. We really enjoyed staying in this cabin. It was perfect for my grandson and me. We drove the tail of the dragon, visited Fontana Dam, Zip lined and white water rafted at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. The cabin is close to so many activities and we did not have time to visit all of them, but we tried to do as much as we could in a few days. My grandson and I shared the cooking duties and had a GREAT time. There is lots of stairs and those that have trouble with stairs, it could be challenging.

Good budget getaway

  • 3 of 5

Since reviews are very important to me when I'm looking for a place, I want to write a very honest review. We stayed for 3 nights on the weekend after 4th of July. We had some trouble getting in, couldn't figure out the key box and since there was no cell phone service we had to drive back out to the nearest store and use their phone. Thankfully the store owner was very nice and let us make a couple of calls. We were very glad we got there pretty early in the day; I think getting there in the dark would be hard. I think better directions would have prevented the keybox problem. When we first got there, we went to the front door and didn't find the keybox, so we went up the steps to the top story, and didn't find the box there, so we went to the back door on the top story, no box; then went down to the bottom story back door and found the key . So, when you first drive in, just go ahead and pull in all the way to the back door.

The house was rustic but adequate. There were two of us and we found it plenty roomy, and it was nice to have 2 bathrooms. Nothing fancy, but clean. We enjoyed being away from it all. The kitchen was adequate for our cooking needs. The coffeemaker uses cone filters, not basket filters, but we made do with basket filters.

We didn't use the TV much; didn't seem to work too well. But we had the laptop and our phones so we were fine.

Someone else had mentioned in their review about the bottom level being musty. The weather was pretty rainy while we were there, and there was an air conditioner going and a dehumidifier going in the bottom level. (The bottom level is the master bedroom.) The A/C and dehumidifier were pretty loud, but they were sort of like "white noise," so they didn't disturb our sleep. The bed was nice and soft. I thought at first it was too soft, but I really did get to where I enjoyed it. What we didn't like was the very strong perfumy odor in the bottom level. I guess it was supposed to cover up any mustiness but it was pretty strong.

We felt that for the price we got a good stay and we really did get away from it all. We appreciated the use of the land-line in the house for long-distance calls, since there was no cell phone service. Also we were glad for the wi-fi. Definitely not for handicapped or disabled; lots of steep stairs inside, and kind of slippery outside since it was raining a lot.

Beautiful setting, quiet location, secluded, but not a bad drive to get to everything.

Cabin was in a beautiful setting with privacy, everything we needed was there. Movies and board games were provided. It had a washer and dryer and a fully equipped kitchen. Beautiful little, cozy place.
