About Francesco Bachetoni
My profound link with Spoleto and this beautiful area goes back to my roots, as my ancestors lived in Umbria since 1500. Pianciano and the estate were bought by my greatgrandfather in 1911 and the property still belongs to our family. I am a civil engineer with a master at the MIT, Boston. Even if i live in Rome and have been working abroad for many years, I like to spend my free time at Pianciano. Horseriding and taking care of the property are the most relaxing activity during holidays.
Francesco Bachetoni purchased this Villa in 2013
Why Francesco Bachetoni chose Spoleto
The medieval hamlet of Pianciano needed restoration. I decided to give the hamlet a new life! I love to share the pleasure to stay at Pianciano with other people, and to let them know Umbria and Spoleto. We know a lot about historical buildings, art, shops and restaurants, and we can give good advices, even if sometimes we still learn from our guests. When possible, I take our guests for a tour in our family house, Villa Paradiso. Recently restaured, has a frescoed ceiling ballroom, and a collection of paintings and art objects. It gives an idea of Italian taste for art in a private home.
What makes this Villa unique
Pianciano is unique for its atmosphere, the peace of the garden, the quietness, and the spectacular view on the olive grow (some 11.000 trees). Enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, the taste of the traditional cooking, the authenticity of an unspoilt location. Relax in the panoramic swimming pool after the hammam. The feeling of being in continuity with the past brings an incredible energy to face the challenges of the future.

A peaceful place.
This property had amazing views. We never got tired of just sitting and looking out at the mountains. There was lots to do if you wanted to be busy. The steam room was a nice touch and there was also ping pong. The swimming pool was lovely, but it was a bit to chilly for us, but it was nice to look at. A thoroughly wonderful holiday.
Greater Than Expected
Off an unmarked entrance be assured that what lies beyond is truly heavenly! At the end of the narrow road we found our home for the next few days. What we saw was a spectacular view from a pool overlooking olive trees as far as the eye can see. Nestled within was a stately home which captured our imagination as we unwound from the days drive. Our apartment was spotless and charming (exactly as the pictures promised) with a well equipped kitchen (including a bottle of their own olive oil, salt, pepper, a days worth of coffee, and of course a delicious lasagna) The fire place is large, lovely, with enough wood for us to enjoy the entire time. Enjoy we did, as we found that after a days worth of exploring the best thing was sitting in front of a roaring fire with a glass of wine and a good book on a chilly evening in October. We didn't stay long enough! We realized that although there is plenty to see in the area, one of the pleasures of Pianciano is simply relaxing and taking it all in either by the pool (yes during the day it was plenty warm enough) or choosing a spot on the lawn with a view of the ancestral home. During our stay we enjoyed the local truffles, wine, and olive oil with fresh pasta and fascinating conversation with Claudia and Francesco. All of us want to return as others have done (some each year for the last 15 years) but next time will be for a longer stay. Believe all the glorious comments left by others, they are all true. It was certainly the highlight of our trip.
Myself and two friends rented the Roccia farmhouse and stayed 4 nights. Claudia made the reservation process painless and we were greeted by Dorel upon arrival. The Roccia is a gorgeous stone farmhouse with an incredible 500 year history having previously served as barracks for troops that guarded the Pianciano family castle (sadly, no longer standing). The house is space with a vaulted ceiling living room and large fireplace which we enjoyed on 2 nights. Plenty of wood was available a short distance away. The kitchen had everything we needed as we opted to dine in every night. Fresh eggs were available for breakfast and we enjoyed a few tomatoes and green beans from the garden. There are three bedrooms, two on one side of the home and a third on the other side accessed by an elevated walkway looking down to the living room. We LOVED everything about the home, property, history, caretaker and owners. Francesco, property owner and Claudia's husband, offered us an extensive tour of their estate which can be seen from the farmhouses. We had no idea what to expect but it looked impressive from the distance and turned out to be sooooooooooooooooo much more! The tour was without a doubt a highlight of our stay in Umbria. Grazie mille to our gracious hosts, Francesco and Claudia and to the property managers.
Trust me - you will NOT be disappointed!
The property was just as good or better then what the photos showed. Francesco and Claudia, the owners of the property, were present when we arrived. They gave us a tour of the property and much advice on the surrounding area of Umbria. They were very gracious hosts. The guest home, that we stayed in, was beautifully appointed, and had all the necessary items for a trouble free stay. Also the caretaker of the property, Dorel, was always available for any issues that may arise. He even helped me with a car issue that occurred. The setting was beautiful and tranquil. The perfect Italian countryside getaway. Definitely a 5 star property. I hope to return someday.
We enjoyed a wonderful week at this beautiful property, with terrific hosts who happily and graciously went the extra mile. We look forward to a return visit to this glorious part of the world and the stylish comfort of Pianciano.
