Franck and Sophie's farmhouse in Vic de Chassenay is delightful. We drove from London and it was very easy to get there. The farmhouse is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped: the kitchen was great and the billiard room was, of course, very popular. We had mixed weather but this was not a problem because the owners have also left a number of games to play, including table tennis with enough bats and balls for everyone. There are plenty of books in the French language which covered a wide range of subjects from Victor Hugo to local mushrooms. It’s easy to relax in the garden outside and the lounge area in the evenings. The neighbouring paddock is full of docile, grazing Charolais including a very large bull. We liked watching them close up from the garden. The pool is also large and well maintained. Vic de Chassenay is well located for Chateaux and vineyards alike. Alesia is an excellent attraction for all age ranges interested in Gallo-Roman relations and it provided good opportunities for our daughter to engage in workshops [in French with some English explanation]. The local village of Semur en Auxois is very handy for our shopping requirements. Chateau de Bussy Rabutin is an interesting site for lovers of French pre-Revolutionary history- worth a visit for the collecion of portraiture and witty and observant commentary on the court life of Louis XIV. We would love to return.
We had a really lovely week at your farmhouse. The weather was superb and the house is wonderful. The pool is particularly good, very clean and suitable for adult swimming as well as children. I would like to have stayed on for a few more days! The area is lovely of course and we did quite a bit of cycling. Claude was very nice and welcoming and he was very thorough going through the house.
The only suggestion i have is toilet in the studio which doesn't work very well. We managed fine but it may be an important issue for some people.
Thank you for being very good to deal with and for renting your house to us. Kevin, Chichester
Fantastic garden, living area, pool table room and 4 good upstairs bedrooms. Unfortunately the separate living quarters with bedroom/kitchen was uninhabitable due to mould and we were a party of 12 and needed the bedroom. Also the downstairs bedroom had woodworm droppings( and the worms themselves) all over the room and it was unpleasant. The pool was a lovely size but chilly. The pool cover required 3 strong adults to move it. There were lots of books and games, but all were in French, as was the TV. The dvd player did not work and there was no WiFi which was tough with 6 teenagers. We did complain about the DVD player and WiFi and a dvd player was brought on our last day.
There were only 2 toilets in the house despite what the advert says and one was in a stinky cupboard with no fan or window. The bath and shower rooms were nice and just need toilets put in them. The house could be really great for 10 people with some improvements ( extra toilets, no wood worm, wifi, an activity guide booklet and instructions on how to use appliances in the house, some games and dvds in English, dvd player) instead it is just goodish. I would not take 12 people to the house as the Granny quarters were awful.
We spent two weeks at this farmhouse in August 2011 and would highly recommend it.
Franck and Sophie were incredibly helpful and great to deal with. The house itself exceeded our expectations.
We had a group of 8 people, including 3 children. The house was well set up to cope with a group of that size, with four large bedrooms upstairs and one huge bedroom with ensuite bathroom (not toilet) downstairs. There was a large living area and separate family room with pool table, although we hardly used either of them as the weather was good enough to spend most of our time outdoors. The kitchen and dining area is quite small, but very functional. There is a huge table outside.
There is a very large garden (although not flat, so not so great for cricket!) which is fully fenced. The gates to the large entrance driveway can be closed, so we would have thought it's pretty safe for small children. There is very little traffic passing by in any case.
The swimming pool was absolutely fantastic. It's quite large and deep - about 1 metre at the shallow end and about 2m at the deep end. Very, very clean and a good temperature. We spent many hours in it.
The house is very private and peaceful, and surrounded by a large field with cows and goats in it. Vic de Chassenay itself is a tiny farming hamlet. Very quiet, and just the odd tractor going up and down the road. There are no shops, but Semur is only a short drive away (less than 10 minutes). There are a couple of good boulangeries there and several restaurants, also two decent supermarkets. There are also boulangeries and a fromagerie in some of the other surrounding villages, all about 10 minutes away by car.
The house is also less than a 10 minute drive away from the motorway, making it very easy to get out and explore the Burgandy region.
We had a superb time, and would not hesitate to recommend.
A delightful house in a beautiful setting. Our family (6 adults ranging from 36 to 66 and 4 children ranging from 3 to 7) had a great holiday here. The house is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, the pool and garden are ideal for relaxing and exploring for the children, the games equipment and toys were well used and the owners were very helpful. We walked, cycled, swum and generally had a very enjoyable holiday. The best house we've stayed in so far in France. Semur en Auxois is a beautiful town to visit, with a number of good restaurants. We would recommend this house unreservedly. Gerry and Margaret and family
La météo n'a pas été de notre côté mais malgré tout nous avons passé un super week-end, la maison est très bien équipée, à tout point vue, il ne manque rien, les literies sont impeccables. Bref on reviendra
