Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was away for a few days.
We had a ball at Skellig Cottage. The weather was shocking so we got great use out of the house. The layout was fabulous. Everything was spotlessly clean and anything we needed was there. We even made use of the barbeque (in very extreme conditions).
We enjoyed it so much we were thinking of heading back there again for New Years Eve, if its available.
Thanks again for everything James. I'll be in touch re New Years Eve at a later stage.
We came on a family vacation with 7 people. There was plenty of room for all of us. We had a lovely holiday!
Great base to visit all the beautiful places around the ring of Kerry
Highlight include Derrymane beach and the trip around the Gap of Dunlow
The cottage had everything we needed would definitely recommend to everyone
Nice warm welcome from Elaine got our holiday off to a great start 👍𣐼
This is a very nice house with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The kitchen area is huge and the views from the windows are really amazing. Its a 180 degrees view of the bay with ever changing vistas. No matter what the wheather is.
We found it hard to leave the place after only one week.
The house is well equipped, with several sitting areas. Only remark on the downside is that some kitchen appliances start to show some tear and wear.
Nice surpise was the availability of a Nespresso coffee maker with a milk frother for a real cappuccino. So bring the cups of your own liking for a perfect coffee ;)
We were two couples from Australia enjoying a 3 week stay in Ireland. The cottage accommodated us well but we would not call it a luxury seaside cottage. The kitchen facilities were very good and we really appreciated the new coffee maker. The only thing that could be added to the kitchen is a couple of containers with lids. The milk etc in the fridge was much appreciated. Both of the en suite bathrooms are very small and restrictive and the showers lack a soap container and there is only a towel rail for the hand towel and washer. Perhaps some towel hooks in the bedrooms would assist with this problem. We dined out on most evenings and on the last night we went to the Smugglers Inn Restaurant (near the Golf Course) and we had the best meal of our 2 months holiday - would really recommend this to other guests. They even have an Early Bird Menu offer which is extremely good value - get there by 6.30 pm.
There were nine of us in our party when we stayed at Skellig Bay cottage in June 2016 (6 adults, 2 children and a toddler). We were very lucky as the weather was exceptional, which allowed us plenty of time to bathe on the beautiful Derrynane Beach which is just a 10 minute drive from the cottage. There is plenty of other things to see within walking distance of the cottage itself, for example the old fort just up the lane and the secluded cove which is about 400 meters in front of the cottage as the crows flies. However it’s still a 20 minute walk to get to it following the road.
The cottage was perfect for our stay, there was plenty of room for us all to be together or have our own space and the facilities were great. It is laid out in a modern open plan style and is tastefully decorated. The beds were really comfortable and we never struggled with heating or hot water for showers and baths. Sitting out on the terrace of an evening as the sun goes down is delightful and we often ate our tea outside, using the BBQ as well.
Our only minor complaints about the place was at times we had to wait for cold water to come through the taps, the lock on the main bathroom door kept getting stuck (locking people inside) and the absence of a parasol outside. Apart from these minor observations everything else was very good. We did however find the refuse a bit tricky to manage having only been given one normal and one recycling bag for a full week. That said, everything else we needed was very well catered for. We would highly recommend Derrynane Beach, followed by a spot of lunch in the Blind Piper. The anti clockwise drive from Waterville to Killarney is stunning and Valentia Island and Portmagee is worth a visit.
As soon as we met Eileen who manages the property we knew we had made the correct choice. The description of the house and location do not do the cottage justice. The cottage is a home from home. Eileen showed us around the property and gave us some practical advice and local tops for places to go. There is a list of local places to visit and guides to help you plan your days.
The property had recently been painted so it looked fantastic. We were a family with 3 children and we were impressed by the layout and generous room sizes. The views from the lounge and front bedrooms are spectacular looking out over the bay. The property was clean and maintained to a high standard and well equipped for a busy family such as ourselves.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends, family and anyone else for that matter who wanted to experience the beauty and tranquility of Kerry.
We were luck to have great weather and took advantage of the many lovely beaches, Derrynane was our favorite. So beautiful and great for the children. Derrynane is also the ancestral home of the historical politician Daniel O'Connell 'The Liberator'. The house and gardens are wonderful. Best of all was the fairy trail set up so the children can explore and hunt for all the amazing fairy houses scattered around the extensive woodland area of the gardens. We also enjoyed a visit to Valentia Island and the picturesque village of Portmagee. From Portmagee take the Skellig Ring Road back towards Waterville past the chocolate factory. There is a lovely walk directly from the cottage that takes you to Loher Stone Fort. These country lanes a so quiet and great for the kids to wander and check out the animals. You can get access to the sea from these lanes and well worth a visit. As you can tell we all really enjoyed our visit to Kerry and staying in Skellig Bay Cottage. We will be back!!! Waterville is famous for its Golf, Fishing & Shooting. There are many more activities locally including Swimming, Horse-riding, Walking Trails and many more. There is daily boat trips to the Skellig Rock from Portmagee and Cahersiveen.
