Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi James,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was away for a few days.

We had a ball at Skellig Cottage. The weather was shocking so we got great use out of the house. The layout was fabulous. Everything was spotlessly clean and anything we needed was there. We even made use of the barbeque (in very extreme conditions).

We enjoyed it so much we were thinking of heading back there again for New Years Eve, if its available.

Thanks again for everything James. I'll be in touch re New Years Eve at a later stage.

Lovely and comfortable cottage situated in an ideal location to explore the delights of Kerry

  • 4 of 5

There were nine of us in our party when we stayed at Skellig Bay cottage in June 2016 (6 adults, 2 children and a toddler). We were very lucky as the weather was exceptional, which allowed us plenty of time to bathe on the beautiful Derrynane Beach which is just a 10 minute drive from the cottage. There is plenty of other things to see within walking distance of the cottage itself, for example the old fort just up the lane and the secluded cove which is about 400 meters in front of the cottage as the crows flies. However it’s still a 20 minute walk to get to it following the road.

The cottage was perfect for our stay, there was plenty of room for us all to be together or have our own space and the facilities were great. It is laid out in a modern open plan style and is tastefully decorated. The beds were really comfortable and we never struggled with heating or hot water for showers and baths. Sitting out on the terrace of an evening as the sun goes down is delightful and we often ate our tea outside, using the BBQ as well.

Our only minor complaints about the place was at times we had to wait for cold water to come through the taps, the lock on the main bathroom door kept getting stuck (locking people inside) and the absence of a parasol outside. Apart from these minor observations everything else was very good. We did however find the refuse a bit tricky to manage having only been given one normal and one recycling bag for a full week. That said, everything else we needed was very well catered for. We would highly recommend Derrynane Beach, followed by a spot of lunch in the Blind Piper. The anti clockwise drive from Waterville to Killarney is stunning and Valentia Island and Portmagee is worth a visit.

Skellig Bay Cottage

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we met Eileen who manages the property we knew we had made the correct choice. The description of the house and location do not do the cottage justice. The cottage is a home from home. Eileen showed us around the property and gave us some practical advice and local tops for places to go. There is a list of local places to visit and guides to help you plan your days.

The property had recently been painted so it looked fantastic. We were a family with 3 children and we were impressed by the layout and generous room sizes. The views from the lounge and front bedrooms are spectacular looking out over the bay. The property was clean and maintained to a high standard and well equipped for a busy family such as ourselves.

I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends, family and anyone else for that matter who wanted to experience the beauty and tranquility of Kerry.

We were luck to have great weather and took advantage of the many lovely beaches, Derrynane was our favorite. So beautiful and great for the children. Derrynane is also the ancestral home of the historical politician Daniel O'Connell 'The Liberator'. The house and gardens are wonderful. Best of all was the fairy trail set up so the children can explore and hunt for all the amazing fairy houses scattered around the extensive woodland area of the gardens. We also enjoyed a visit to Valentia Island and the picturesque village of Portmagee. From Portmagee take the Skellig Ring Road back towards Waterville past the chocolate factory. There is a lovely walk directly from the cottage that takes you to Loher Stone Fort. These country lanes a so quiet and great for the kids to wander and check out the animals. You can get access to the sea from these lanes and well worth a visit. As you can tell we all really enjoyed our visit to Kerry and staying in Skellig Bay Cottage. We will be back!!! An absolute gem

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing stay at the cottage, upon arrival to the village we were greeted by the housekeeper who led us to the cottage in her car, gave us an orientation of the house and pointed us in the right direction for anything we needed. A nice touch was the fresh milk and teabags provided. The house is truly fabulous, nice and SPACIOUS (which so often rentals are not) with 4 large bedrooms, 2 ensuite and a nice large bathroom with a deep tub. The kitchen is jam packed with everything you would need to host a dinner party to day to day living, from soup bowls to salad spinners, it's all there.

The cookware is of a great quality too, the house is clean and tidy, the bedrooms are nice and fresh with lovely linin. We travelled with our 5 year old and 1 year old and were delighted to have a nice big (proper) cot supplied with fresh beddings for it and a nice highchair too! There is high speed wifi in the cottage plus plenty of TV stations and dvds, books and games too.

The area is stunning, with amazing views from each window in the house, lots of nice walks in the immediate vicinity and plenty of historic artefacts to explore. The village is nearby with shops and decent pubs and places to eat.

This was an outstanding rental, one which my family and I will recommend to anyone who will listen.

Lovely home and great setup for family sharing.

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay and found the location, quality of the home and layout to be excellent for gathering with more than one family. Views are outstanding. We would come again. Our only little thing is that it seemed it was ready for a bit of maintenance to keep the lovely home in good shape.

Very happy!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the house during on week of our Easter holidays. We were lucky with the wether but also the cottage was perfect: modern, comfortable, clean, week equipped, nicely heated, …We could have a couple of meals outside and we enjoyed the sunset over Ballenskellig bay almost very evening. Only regret is that in April we could not go to Skellig Michael (only from May on by the time of writing, but in apparently they are trying to be allowed to go earlier if the weather is OK). Hope to be able to come back. Great value for money compared to numerous rentals we already enjoyed in France. Olivier/Belgium

Great Stay and great house

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful second visit at Skellig Bay Cottage which was just as comfortable and enjoyable as our first visit, the icing on the cake this time was the weather.

The house is extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean with all the comforts of home and the grounds that the house stands on have to be seen to be believed. The wild life and scenery is breathtaking.

Because of the wonderful weather we were able to explore the local countryside and to see Valentia Island on a glorious day – magical!

We made the most of the patio where we could sit all day long just staring at the stunning scenery.
