About Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini
Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini’s grandfather, returning from Africa, after World War II, was looking for a property near Rome and finding this oasis of peace and beauty bought the property as it reminded him of the wide open spaces of Africa. One will not find the African savannah but hundreds of kilometres of nature dressed with architecture and culture. Maria Luisa loves this place, which lies between two breathtaking regions : Tuscany and Umbria, and adores sharing these beautiful lands with her guests. Because of its proximity to Rome and Florence Miralaghi is the perfect place to live and work. Maria Luisa lives on the estate all year long in a another old country house. It is always a pleasure for her to invite her guests for evening drinks. Every so often she does private horse-rides inside the estate with gorgeous Arab horses from the nearby riding-school. In the evenings she takes delight in sitting on the stair of her home while chatting with her sons and admiring the star studded sky. You can find any information you might require about Miralaghi on Facebook page; you should look for the one with Maria Luisa’s photo.
Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini purchased this Villa in 1957
Why Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini chose Città della Pieve
If you are coming to Miralaghi after a midnight outing you will see a sparkling sky which will seem to embrace you while there is silence and tranquillity all around you. Live these astonishing moments and keep sleep at bay while in the distance the bark of a dog which captures your ears is barely audible. These are magic moments which will come to your mind once you are back home The place is unique, the air clean fills you with energy, and the silence is only broken by the chirping of birds. A gentle breeze always blows in summer day and nightand it is never too hot at night as temperature falls to between 18 and 20 degrees. Spend the day in total relaxation at the heated swimming pool, in the garden watching hawks flying playfully in the wind or doing activities such as fishing in the fish pond, fitness trails in the forest or hiking along the 20 kilometers scenic paths. This area also has many theatres as well as cinemas while during summer cultural, historical, traditional events, festivals, music concerts, parades etc. are recurrently held.
What makes this Villa unique
As Villa Miralaghi is on 500 mt on the sea level a gentle breeze refreche the air and keep it dry so when in winter the valley is foggy and cold, Miralaghi has a temperature higher by about 3 to 7 degrees and you can see the hills around as an archipelago in a sea of clouds. The opposite in summer time: lower than the valley from 3 to 8 degrees. There is a good energy here. Really healthy: there are billions of square meters of leaves that clean the air. If you come during winter- either in summer :-) you can go to spend the day or in the evening at the Spa or to the natural thermal springs in San Casciano, Chianciano or Bagni San Filippo or simply spoend some time in our Jacuzzi. Take the train to Rome or Florence and you will reach them in about one hour e mezzo. As around 40% of the architectural beauty of Italy is found in these areas you should visit the nearby towns such as Cortona, Montepulciano, Pienza ( UNESCO inheritage of humanity, Chiusi, (Tuscany), Città della Pieve, Assisi (the town of Saint Francis), Perugia etc. Go for an evening glass of wine to the close-by village of Paciano built in the Middle Ages or to the beautiful Renaissance village of Panicale. our estate is crossed by one of the most beautiful routes for bikes, 33 km cross our unique panorama, from Città della Pieve up to Paciano and you can also walks along 20 Km of internal paths, or do fitness: 11 equipments and several exercises along 2 Km about in the forest, or fish play boules , ask for a lesson d yoga... If you are fashionable, you can buy the most beautiful cashmere garments produced locally and you can pay for them at factory prices... and much more …just ask Mausi. Last but not least at home and at our fb page you will find my personal guide in 5 languages.: italian, english, german, spanish and french

Peace, fun and tranquility in Umbria!
Our (grown-up) family was hugely looking forward to our week in Villa Miralaghi. We were not disappointed! The family voted the pool the best we have ever had and we played endless games of (sort-of) water polo! The villa was quirky, a former hunting lodge, and was spacious. We all felt we could get our own space if we wanted it, with the communal areas plenty big enough for us all to be comfortable. Plenty of outside tables and chairs and sunbeds for all, surrounded by lovely flowers and trees. Oh, and not to forget the hammock! The jacuzzi was brilliant and much used as the light went each evening, except for the moon, of course! There were so many dishes and plates and cups and mugs - brilliant. Mausi welcomed us and gave us a tour. She was contactable throughout our stay if we had needed anything and was always making suggestions and giving tips and ideas. The Villa is well placed for visits to many places. We visited Montepulciano and Assisi in p[articular. We had a great time! Thank you, Mausi. Thank you, Villa Miralaghi. :)
Tutto ottimo e bellissimo come sempre!
Felice 2019 e ... tornate presto :-)
A lovely property in Umbrian countryside- just as described!
It is vital to read and follow Maria’s instruction for getting to the Villa- the google route takes one through a rather hair-raising journey as we discovered. The pool seem to be heated the first day but not the rest of the trip- although it did not deter the children from going swimming!
We also enjoyed Maria’s recommendations for dining out! The surrounding cities are a delight to visit! We ate far too much during our stay.
Maria is an amazing host- she really did make us feel welcome! Thanks for the lovely holiday- it was especially special for my mum given it was her birthday during the trip!
thank you very much for your review! I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and my present for your mum's birthday. Miralaghi is truly an incredible place!
As you said this area is really full of places to discover and visit and I am really happy when my guests follow my suggestions and appreciate them.
The kids were right to use the swimming pool The second day the heating of the pool had a problem, as you told me, my bad, but w'have got back to the right temperature asap!
We tried to get Google to correct the suggested route but did not manage yet.
Wish to have you and your group back to Miralaghi; you will know the right route next time for sure! ;)
Beautiful secluded villa on top of a mountain top overlooking beautiful Umbria
Our party of 6 enjoyed 11 days in this charming villa. It had many amenities to suit everyone of all ages. These included a swimming pool, hot tub, pool table, ping pong, as well as many other sports and hiking trails to vistas overlooking the Umbria countryside.
Maria Luisa is a fabulous hostess, anxious to provide for her guest each and every need. She is very knowledgeable about the area and had wonderful recommendations for places to see, to dine, and buy wine etc.
It’s a bit hard to find the villa the first time unplug the GPS follow closely Maria Luisa’s directions which will get you there without hassle.
Definitely recommend Villa Miralaghi.
Dear charming group,
thank you for your stay and your review.
I will preserve your wonder of the beauty of spontaneous plants and flowers (poppies, cornflowers, wild orchids) that thrive in spring
Thanks for the public suggestion to follow my directions: you know that there are 3 entries in the country estate and I suggest the easiest and most direct.
Thanks again, I hope to see you again at Miralaghi
Perfect for three American women. The house fit all our needs and our landlady Maria was delightful.
Perfect visit from the day we arrived until we left. Great location to take in several wonderful walled towns. I would recommend you have a car or rental car.
I would like to thank these 3 brave girls for your enthusiasm and the privilege they gave me to know them.
Thank you very much for your long stay, I hope to see you again and again.
A lovely villa with extensive facilities, set in a rural and isolated mountain area.
Miralaghi is set near the top of a mountain in a secluded peaceful nature area, with views of the surrounding Umbrian countryside. It is a spacious property with good sized bedrooms and bathrooms (although these could be improved) and a functional kitchen with good range of equipment, dishwasher, china, cutlery and utensils. The open fire and logs were well used due to some cold and wet weather.
We made use of the heated private pool a few times (when it was sunny), and made use of the hot tub and boules pitch. The kids loved completing the exercise trail which provided some more wonderful views of the area and the bird hive tower was fun.
Maria Luisa is a lovely, friendly and a very knowledgeable host. She provided information to help get us out and explore the local area (by car which is essential) and Paciano and Panicale were our first places to visit. Maria popped by occasionally to check if things were ok and provided advice on where to go in Rome and Florence (Firenze) which, while wet was, still pretty.
The road up to the villa from the directions provided is a track, not tarmac, but the VW Passat managed it in the dry and wet with no problem. From the Villa it is possible to drive up to the top and down the other side towards Paciano, however this is not the faint hearted as the road surface is a little worse and is much steeper and bendy, with no crash barriers and only a couple of passing points for any traffic coming the opposite way. However, the view down towards Lake Trasimeno is spectacular and worth the effort! It is also the quickest route to the Lake, Panicale, Paciano and countryside. Recommend Lillo Tatini in Panicale see TripAdvisor.
We'd recommend a trip to Cortona, north of the Lake (about 45 min drive) as it is another amazing hilltop town. Just north of Cortona (from the main road) is a top class restaurant; IL Falconiere. We had a truly amazing food experience with service during torrential rain and thunderstorm. Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the Spa (maybe next time!).
Orvieto (about 1 hour south) is a good day out for the family where there is lots to see including an incredible Duomo and the ancient Well is something else.
Thanks to the commentary, is very accurate just missing some villages to visit around as: Montepulciano, Arezzo, Pienza, Città della Pieve, Perugia Assisi ... for the next time :-). I share the choice of lillo Teatini in Panicale is the best restaurant of that village
18 Km from the highway: Ideal center for a lot of excursions in Umbria and Tuscany and Latium.
In the immediate vicinity, I advise a lovely medieval village: Paciano, 3 Km, and a beautiful Renaissance village: Panicale, 7 Km.
During your walking inside the property you can see all around you: Chiusi at 12 Km, Città della Pieve 15 Km, Castiglione del Lago at 16 Km, Trasimeno Lake 14 Km and Chiusi Lake 14Km , Montepulciano 25 Km, Cortona (Under The Tuscany Sun) at 30 Km, Perugia at 35 Km, Assisi (San Francis town) 50 Km.
Travel on Trasimeno Lake to the fisherman’s isle where you can spend a great afternoon.
If you would like to discover ' Il Perugino' go to Città Della Pieve to Santa Maria de I Bianchi is the most beautiful fresco of him: "The nativity".
Chiusi, the ancient city of King Porsenna, is a city of Etruscan origin. you can visit the interesting archeological museum and the system of tunnel underground the towns used to defense the town.
The tombs, which are very interesting, are visible nearby.
Not far is Montepulciano; the most beautiful Renaissance town in Italy. I advise you the Redi cellars the most beautiful in the world for Newsweek. Or for a testing at Avignonesi cellars.
Further away is Pienza the first small Italian city built according to a regular plan. The "ideal town" in the 17th century and one of the “Treasure of the humanity” for the UNESCO.To arrive in Pienza follow the indication to Montichielli, NOT to Pienza.
I ensure you a beautiful charming trip.
On the other part of Lake Trasimeno is Cortona- under Tuscany Sun- At the museum of The Etruscan Academy there is the famous Etruscan lamp, the oldest in the world. There is also a magnificent “Announcement” of Beato Angelico and paintings of Luca Signorello.
You must visit in Perugia the “Rocca Paolina”, a curious item: A barbican built on 200 houses.
Equidistant is Orvieto; the Cathedral is stupendous The Well an emotion for adults and children. And recently they opened the “underground town”.
There is still much to see: Arezzo, Siena, Assisi (The town of San Francis with the two churches one up the other ) Gubbio ....
And staying more then one week don't miss the Marmore falls (they are opened all day long only saturday and sunday), the highest falls in Europe and Frasassi caves the most beautiful caves I've been in all my life.
If you want to go by train from Chiusi, you can travel comfortable to either Rome or Florence in about one hour, and still return in the same day.
