About Sharon Bellamy
I love Gozo and part of my heart will always remain there. The island is lovely and seems to have something for everyone. I really enjoy visiting the beaches and finded secluded quiet beaches to sit down, relax and enjoy a good book.
Sharon Bellamy purchased this Farmhouse in 2002
Why Sharon Bellamy chose Xagħra
Gozo is a beautiful place and still maintains its natural way and is not spoilt by heavy tourism. The beaches are beautiful and there are several bars and restaurants to accommodate everyone. There are some really nice places of interest from Calypso Cave to the Ggantija Temples in Xaghra. Gozo has a very relaxed atmosphere and tourists like to walk and enjoy the culture.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The property is just a short distance by car to the famous beach on Gozo called Ramla (15 minute walk). The property is not overlooked and is very spacious with a good size pool. It has 3 good size bedrooms, two of which are en-suite. There is a bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs which all benefit with baths and/or showers.

Everything was perfect as usual, superb property and location.
The manager was extremely help as always.
Thank you to the whole team!
Who help make it a brilliant holiday! 😊
It's a nice house but not without its issues
The house in in a central location which makes parking tricky at times. It is spacious and the pool is lovely especially the outside shower. The bedrooms are all a good size. It might be an issue for some that the occupants of the downstairs bedroom have to use the washing facilities in one of the other ensuites. The fan in one of the upstairs bedrooms does not work well which during the warmer months is not great. I note that an earlier review had pointed this out too and therefore surmised that nothing had been done about it. The shower heads are very high which can lead to water going all over the floor. The water pressure can be quite variable during the shower going from a trickle to a heavy hit of water in your face during one shower. The mattresses are either old or of poor quality as the springs can be felt making for an uncomfortable nights sleep. The towels that were provided were inadequate in size and number and they smelt really awful that you are probably better of bringing your own. The kitchen has a lot of equipment but is lacking in kitchen knives. Sharon the owner tells me this is for health and safety reasons. I find this bizarre as I have not experienced this anywhere else but it is difficult to chop an onion with a bread knife. Many of the cups have chips which is very unhygienic. During my stay there was a powercut so I went to use the torch supplied but it didn't work as the battery had corroded. This may not seem a big issue as most mobile phones have torches on them these days but it said to me that safety things were not checked regularly. When I reported it to the owner she said that Maltese air caused this to happen to batteries. This again is very bizarre. I am Maltese and have not ever come across this before. There just isn't the attention to detail that I would hope for at the house. When you are paying good money you hope to be treated as a holidaymaker. I did not appreciate the information regarding checking out and final leaning referring to me as 'the tenant'. I know technically that's what I was but I think it says a lot about the owner's view of holidaymakers. It's just business and nothing can be done as it's 'health and safety'
Thank you for your feedback.
Unfortunately not all bedrooms come with ensuite facilities. This property benefits from two of the three bedrooms with ensuite facilities which is more than normal in properties.
Thanks for advising regarding the fan, the electrician did check all the fans and they were working correctly. However I will ask him to recheck. As to the showers I will also ask the plumber to check but as the showers are all enclosed, I am not sure how the water was all over the floor unless the doors were left open, but will get them all checked. Thank you.
The cleaners have also inspected the kitchen utensils and you are correct, it appears that the sharper knives to use to cut with are no longer in the drawer. New ones have now been purchased and will be added to the property. The cups, plates and glasses have also been inspected and one cup was found chipped, which has now been thrown away and replaced.
Lastly but not least, I take pride in looking after the people that visit the property and have several repeaters. I feel that I treat people fairly and provide them with all the information necessary. Even yourselves, when you contacting me to advise that you had broken a glass panel on the door, there was no issue.
Once again, thanks for the feedback and I will ask personnel to review and ensure that all is in order at the property for future guests.
Wonderful farmhouse in great location
We had a great week staying in villa poppy. Sharon was really helpful and fast to respond to any queries. The house is conveniently located close to the local square with plenty of restaurants and bars. Family loved the pool and there was plenty of space in the house for the 5 of us to chill out. We would definitely recommend Gozo and villa poppy.
Lovely house, great holiday
We had a lovely time at this property. We travelled with 3 children aged 7,12 & 15. The pool was fantastic and was used all times, including early morning & late at night. It was well kept & beautifully clean. We loved the location. Easy walk into the centre & it had a lovely ambience in the evening. We thought it was a great location & a great place to go and explore the rest of Gozo. We hired a car and had no problem finding a parking space.
Our only comment would be the upstairs bedrooms are very warm. The ceiling fans were not sufficient. If you are happy to sleep with the doors open it would be ok. However due to having lots of bites, we didn’t want to do this. The fan in the second bedroom did not work as efficiently as it should. It didn’t matter whether it was number one or 5, it made no difference. This room was very hot. This problem could be eased with a couple of floor standing fans. Unfortunately I had to sleep on the sofa downstairs.
However this really didn’t stop us having a lovely holiday & we would highly recommend the property. Thank you for allowing us to visit.
A spacious, comfortable house centrally located in Xaghra with easy access to bars & restaurants
Had a wonderful family holiday in this authentic farmhouse. The house is situated just off the main square (between 'piggy square and Xaghra main square) with plenty of restaurants and bars, pharmacies, a bank and small grocers/bakers. The streets are narrow and parking was sometimes a little difficult with our 9-seater van, but we always managed to park relatively close to the house.
The 3 bedrooms are spacious, two with en-suite showers and a separate ground floor toilet. We were a party of 6 adults and 1 child (6 yrs) and the house is really only marketed for 6 people (e.g. 6 dining room chairs etc.) The kitchen is adequately equipped although we did very little in the way of cooking. The lounge area overlooked the outside space, which we felt was way too small for the size of the villa and the maximum occupancy, but this was to accommodate the pool, which was a good size, clean and inviting - even at midnight!
The owners were quick to respond to our request for a new hairdryer and the property manager was friendly, knowledgeable and was contactable throughout our stay. The owners had kindly supplied us with the basics (bread/milk/butter etc) on arrival, which we had not expected and had just got ripped off with out of date cereal at the only supermarket open at 10pm in Malta!
The only negative, which did not ruin our stay, is that the house was not as clean as we would have liked and we found ourselves cleaning out the cutler drawers and cupboards before putting our shopping away and although dishcloths and mop etc. had been supplied, there were no cleaning products at all. In addition, the wardrobe in the ground floor bedroom was damp and was unusable. That said and having looked tirelessly at similar accommodation since our return from Gozo, I would say that this house represents real value for money and I would highly recommend to my friends and family.
The farmhouse was lovely with a mix of old world charm and modern amenities.
It is in a very good location to explore all of Gozo in a week and in a very quiet neighborhood. It is an easy walk to the town square of Xaghra where there are some wonderful restaurants. The farmhouse was clean and beautifully decorated. Our only concerns were that the beds were very hard and we had to use the extra duvets under the sheets to soften them. Also we were surprised by the lack of typical supplies that we have found in other rentals such as at least one toll of extra toilet paper per bathroom, a bar of soap per bathroom and dish soap one bottle of drinking water, and salt and pepper at the least. The stores are not always open to get these items when you arrive later. When we arrived we had to wash all of the glasses before using them because we decided the previous renters did not bother to buy dish soap. We thought that this is actually a health issue that needs to be considered. We are sorry to have to share the last comments because we did have a wonderful stay at your place and we would recommend it to others. These are things that would only have improved our great time.
Glad you enjoyed Gozo and staying at the property. I would like to answer the queries you raised. Unfortunately due to the different soaps/cleaners, I was advised that these should be bought by the rentees due to allergy reactions for different people and it was safer for Rentees to purchase their own products.
As to the beds, I am sorry you found them hard, the beds mattresses where bought last year. All cutlery and table wear is washed before arrival of the new tenants. The cleaner ensures that everything is clean before the arrival. So although you cleaned all glasses on arrival due to there being no soap, it was not necessary to do so.
Thank you for your review and I hope that my comments have clarified some of the topics.
This quiet and quaint island stands south of Sicily, in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea and spans 9 x 5 miles (14.5kms x 8kms). The island stands 25 miles (40kms) away from its sister island of Malta and is reachable by ferry.
The island of Gozo offers the traveller much to explore and discover that range from prehistoric temples to historical events that have made Gozo what it is today. Many people refer to Gozo as the land where time stands still and in many ways that is still true.
