La Rastelayre is situated on the beautiful Gluyere river in the heart of the 'Parc naturel régional des monts d’Ardèche'. The original stone building, built in the late 1800’s, contains modern, comfortable self-catering apartments which have been completely refurbished.

Each apartment (gîte) has its own south-facing terrace where meals can be enjoyed in the relaxed style typical of southern France. While La Rastelayre has a large swimming pool for our guests to use, the river also offers its own selection of natural pools for swimming and paddling in. There are plenty of shady and sunny spots for picnics or just relaxing in the sun.

La Rastelayre is close to the picturesque medieval town of St. Pierreville. It is bathed in peace and tranquility while also being close to local attractions to provide a good holiday for every need. It is a wonderful area for walking, cycling, as well as touring the area by car.

Approximately 50km from Valence, La Rastelayre is best reached by car. It is situated along the D102, beside the Pont du Perrier, at an altitude of 480m. This charming old stone house is situated less than 5 minutes from St. Pierreville in the heart of the Ardéche 'Parc Regional', alongside the picturesque Glueyre river. It is surrounded mainly by chestnut woods and the Glueyre river, a class 1 category river, runs along the property. The river has many different types of fish including trout. Beavers and crayfish can also be found and there are many natural pools for swimming in. The beauty and tranquility of the surrounding hills add to the peacefulness that can be enjoyed there.

A warm welcome awaits you at La Rastelayre! The old 'cave' has been converted into two fully fitted luxury apartments which are cool, quiet and spacious. The old 'atelier' has been converted into one very large three bedroomed apartment with two full bathrooms as well as a fully fitted kitchen.

Our gîtes each have a south-facing terrace, kitchen with modern appliances, good, large beds and modern bathrooms.

Use of linen (bed and kitchen) is included as well as final cleaning and energy and water costs.

Washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board are available for use.

Babies: We have a high chair and a travel cot available for use.

Dogs are allowed, however, we have a limit to the number of dogs on the property. For this reason it must be agreed at the time of booking.

We have a NO SMOKING policy inside the gîtes.

Most gîtes have a cosy fireplace (closed system that burns gas) to warm up the cool evenings during the winter. (Extra charge for heating costs)

L'Atelier is our newest and most spacious apartment. With a floor area of 110m², 'L'Atelier' provides very comfortable accommodation for up to 10 people. It has three bedrooms, one with a 160cm x 200cm double bed, one with two single beds (90cmx200cm) which can be made into a double and the third room with two single beds (90cmx200cm) as well as two single mattresses on a mezzanine floor (fun for kids!). The apartment has a large, well-equipped kitchen, lounge, dining area and two bathrooms with bath and shower, two basins and toilet in each. The terrace is equipped with garden furniture, a parasol and a BBQ.

Having rented our fair share of gites and apartments around Europe, we knew exactly what we would be looking for to enjoy a great holiday. La Rastelayre had the potential to become such a place and we have been busy since 2001 turning it into the ideal holiday place.

What makes this apartment unique

Peaceful and quiet surroundings with a river running through it. A fantastic place for nature lovers, but still close enough to go exploring and visiting places of interest in the surrounding area. Most of our visitors are just happy to stay and relax, and recharge their batteries!

Fantastic holiday

We had a fabulous week here, our only mistake was booking just one week not two. The property is charming, the owners are friendly and helpful plus they do a morning run to the bakers. The gardens are large and adjacent river and surroundings are lovely. The facilities are great, our children had a ball using the kayak and paddle board provided on the river, as well as playing boule, badminton, slack lining and in obviously splashing about in the pool. You didn't need to go anywhere, but there is a lot to do in the area if you have car. We would love to go back.

"YOU COULDN'T HELP BUT RELAX"

La Rastelayre sits in a most beautiful and tranquil of settings yet with fresh bakery and excellent restaurants only minutes away.

The accommodation is of a very high standard with new and clean furniture, excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities with every amenity you could need.

The owners/caretakers were delightful, kind and extremely helpful and maintained the property to its highest level. Would certainly recommend.

Many of our guests spend most of their time hanging around at La Rastelayre as it makes for a very relaxing holiday with beautiful surroundings and enough to do. However, if you are more the adventurous or active type, there is plenty to explore.

For ice cream and sorbet lovers we highly recommend a visit to Le Moulinon’s Terre d’Adélice where you can have your all-time favourite flavour or try some very exotic ones like lavender, goat’s cheese or wasabi! All the ice cream is made on the premises and contain only the best, natural ingredients. Just browsing through the vast array of different flavours makes the trip worthwhile.

La Rastelayre is situated near the towns of St Pierreville (2,5km), Albon (6,5km) and St. Sauveur-de-Montagut (12,5km). The area is known for it’s chestnuts, bilberries, goat’s milk cheese and scenic mountains. The Gluyere river provides many river pools for swimming, picnic spots, and fishing.

The local cuisine is varied and inexpensive with many restaurants dotted around the local villages. Most villages have a small general store and practically all have a good baker with fresh bread baked daily. There is a large supermarket and other grocery stores available in St Sauveur-de-Montagut. For a hypermarket experience you will need to visit one of the bigger towns like Valence, Le Cheylard or La Voulte. There are also local markets where local farmers sell their fresh produce including vegetables and fruit, cheeses, sausages and meat, honey and various other local delicacies as well as clothing, fabric and table cloths, herbs and spices and wine.

There are two ‘Syndicat d’Initiative’ (tourist offices) nearby, one in St.Pierreville and one in St. Sauveur-de-Montagut. They have a wealth of information on what is going on in the region. There are a number of museums, castles and ruins in the area that are open to the public during the summer months.
