New Rental. Garden Apartment in renovated brownstone.
About Owner/Property Manager
Both Jeff and I enjoy city living and this was one of the reasons we decided to move back to DC after sending the last child off to College last year. Jeff bought the house back in 1992 and lived there for some years before moving across the Potomac to raise the family. We started planning our major renovation three years ago and started the project in early Spring of 2016. We moved in, in late October of 2017. It took some time to settle down as the work continued well into the Winter and following Spring, but we are now ready to receive guests in our beautifully updated home. The apartment was thoughtfully fitted out to provide comfort, efficiency and style. Its accessed by your own private entrance to the front of the house and we invite our guests to use the patio outfitted with table and chairs as a place to sit and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the passing pedestrians coming and going along our more secluded but equally busy street. We overlook the park to the front and the circle beyond. We love that we can walk everywhere and Jeff cycles to work and back as his office is in Chinatown. Wholefoods is a few minutes walk, as is Trader Joes and Giant. Restaurants, Theatres, Galleries and Venues are all within a short walk and we find we really don't have need for a car anymore. We also have a home in Ireland, in West Cork so we are not new to the HomeAway/VRBO family. In fact we are premier members there and look forward to welcoming guests to our DC home.

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Northwest Washington
The original permit for the house was submitted in 1893 by Judge Westel Willoughby. The house was finished in 1897 and the Willoughby family moved in that year. Willoughby was an interesting character and was originally from upstate New York. He put himself through law school by working as a carpenter. He then joined up and fought in the civil war, was injured and returned home and settled in Alexandria, where he later became a Supreme Court Judge. His wife and himself were active in the early Suffrage movement and he was also instrumental in changing the laws following the civil war to allow African Americans testify against Whites in a court of law. His love of carpentry shows throughout the house and we have restored many of the original details. The house itself has a varied history and was home to many notable figures following Westel Willoughby . The home became a little shabby after 1968, but was given a small facelift in the early 90's and maintained well until we decided to move back and gutted it! So if you like the feel and character of an historic property and neighbourhood, but enjoy the comforts of modern living and the convenient location . Then look no further !

This place is perfect! The owner goes above and beyond. The place is perfectly outfitted, and the owner even stocked up the kitchen for our arrival with more than the basics. She us available if you need her, but honestly.. everything is great.. we had no needs!
Our Go To Place to Stay in DC
The English basement apartment is outstanding with great furnishings and appliances. Marianne and Jeff are excellent owners and very helpful and attentive. They have cheese / fruit for us upon arrival and other items in the refrigerator. We had other surprises this trip upon arrival for New Year's Eve.
Check-in and check-out is easy. Secure, high speed internet is a big plus!
The location at Logan Circle is perfect for restaurants, entertainment and getting to the sights of DC. Metro is a short walk and Uber arrives within 2 minutes. The visitor parking pass is plus for anyone driving from home. We never have had issues finding a parking spot nearby.
This is our go to place to stay when we come to DC. Marianne and Jeff make the stay all the more enjoyable.
Everything you need
Small, cute, and clean with BEAUTIFUL appliances. Very modern feel with an exposed brick fireplace. Everything you need whether it's a couple of days or a longer stay. About a mile walk from the museums and monuments. Loved this place.
Long Weekend in DC
We had such a great stay for a long weekend in DC! Marianne was prompt in her communication and was so accommodating to our early arrival. Great location, central to so many activities and restaurants. Would definitely stay again!
Everything you could ever need/want
My husband and I took a quick trip to DC. The history of the neighborhood and the architecture are amazing. This apartment has been renovated in a modern style that also has the charm of the original era.
Upon arrival the fridge was stock with a few necessities for morning and a few things for fun (beer/champagne). The kitchen is fully stocked as well.
This is close to the Mall and Smithsonian's and only a short Lyft to Georgetown. We scootered to the Mall on one of the days.
We are looking forward to returning someday! The owners are WONDERFUL.
The location is perfectly situated on 12th Street, between P and Rhode Island Avenue. It overlooks Logan Circle to the front and 11th Street to the back. Steps to restaurants and theatre, music venues, galleries, bars and shopping. It's also only a few minutes walk to the Convention Centre and China Town with City Centre and Blagden Alley nestled between both - visitors can enjoy the many faces that DC has to offer. The Mall,Memorials and Museums takes approximately fifteen minutes to walk. While 14th Street and Shaw are practically on your doorstep.
