We arrived to a warm, inviting home and a lovely gift basket for making s'mores on the campfire. A beautiful handwritten note from the owners just made our stay that much more special. There were so many things to do ... swimming, badminton, campfire, games, movies, croquet ... there's no reason to get bored here! And having a vineyard within walking distance was the icing on the cake.
We came back for a second time and hope to come back again. The owners are delightful and keep great care of the house. The house has a beautiful pool which the kids loved. Overall, everything is spacious and clean and a great place to get away. We hope to go back again!
A group of us stayed the weekend at Marksville Manor and had a lovely time. Great place for grilling out (cookware provided), swimming in a brand new clean pool, throwing horseshoes with mountains in the background, and relaxing with plenty of linens and places to chill.
The owners are amazing. I forgot my phone charger, texted them, and they had it overnighted to me. Very kind and generous. If I'm in Luray again this is the first place in looking.
My niece was getting married in Luray, VA and we needed a place for various members of the bride's family to stay. Marksville Manor could not have been more perfect. Imagine arriving at a home you have never seen late in the afternoon and hosting the bridal party that night! The party went so smoothly because the house is outfitted with everything you could possibly need (including the kitchen). Joanie's Pound Cake, a beautiful gift basket (with everything for Smores) and cheese from a local market were waiting in the kitchen. Corn hole boards for outdoor fun were stashed by the side of the house. There was ample parking and the chairs on the front porch were so inviting. The house was very clean and the beds comfortable. We are already looking for an opportunity to return! This is a gem of a place!
We recently had the good fortune of spending the week at Marksville Manor. Joanie and Arthur are both amazing. I mainly worked with Joanie prior to our arrival and she was always so friendly and kind. It felt as if I were making plans with an old friend.
When we pulled into the driveway I thought the place could not have been more perfect for the small family wedding we were going to have the following day. The outside of the house was impeccable. The yard was freshly mowed and the flowers looked gorgeous. We couldn't wait to unload and start getting everything set up.
We first entered the house through the side door which led into the mudroom and kitchen. It took my breath away. The pictures do not do this house justice. The house has an amazing layout and you can truly tell that Arthur and Joanie put their hearts and souls into this place.
After walking into the kitchen we noticed a freshly made cake with a heartfelt note from Joanie. The cake was wonderful and you could tell it was made with love. There was also a lovely gift basket on the table that was perfect for our needs while at the house.
Later that day we got to meet Arthur. He was unloading some firewood for us and while talking to him he mentioned they had an arbor we could use for the wedding. It was the perfect finishing touch that we had needed for our big day.
Everyone had a great time while we were there. They all talked about how perfect the house was and how beautiful it was. They also wanted to know how we found this wonderful gem.
We are hoping to be able to make this a regular family vacation. It was the perfect weekend in the perfect place.
Thank you Joanie and Arthur for sharing your beautiful home. We also want to say thanks for the part you played in our wedding going so well. We wish you both the best of luck.
I can’t say enough good about this place or about Joanie and Arthur. Joanie is so friendly and sweet and she was very responsive when I e-mailed or called her. Arthur is also just as kind hearted and good natured. Sometimes we would see Arthur in the mornings watering the plants or cleaning the pool. It was a joy taking a few minutes out of the day to chat.
As for the house, the pictures did not do this place justice. When we pulled in and walked into the house it took my breath away. We were having a small family wedding there the following day and it could not have been more perfect. The house and grounds are immaculately kept up. You can tell they truly care about their house and the people that come to stay. In addition to the house being so relaxing it is also very close to other activities such as hiking and canoeing. This is a perfect place for families to get together and reconnect.
We can't wait to come back again.
