Close to all amenities,
This very confortable house is ideal for a peaceful holidays. We spent long moments in the garden thanks to the shadow of the orange tree.
Living there you are in the heart of the village of Vamos
Great holiday, made even better by the surroundings and house. However, if you are looking for a lively resort, this isn't the place for you. The village is quiet and off the beaten track but does boast 3 very good tavernas, cafes, small general stores, hairdresser and a wonderful bakery with fresh bread daily. Also a tourist information centre all within walking distance of the house. There are some good walks in and around the village, some of which are guided by a local and regular bus services if you wish to go further afield.
The house itself is a renovated stone building which has all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Plenty of outside space for eating al fresco including a roof terrace which has spectacular views of the mountains. It was very well equipped with cooking facilities etc and very comfortable.
A car would be useful if you wish to travel more but we, two 60+ females managed perfectly well without by walking and using buses, taxes etc. I would happily go back for another stay.
Vamos is a fabulous little town in which to be based; even in December there is a good little community of locals and ex-pats and I would imagine that in summer it would be lovely to escape the madding crowds of the beaches. Loreni's house is right in the middle of the village and is the perfect getaway for couples - the upstairs terrace with it's view of the snow covered White Mountains was perfect for sitting out and it was a delight to realise that we could pick our own oranges every morning to squeeze. We stayed for a month but would happily have stayed longer and would definately reccommend it but would suggest that it may be too small for 4 adults. Do try out the 'Discover Vamos on foot' walk book which was thoughtfully provided - the area is well worth exploring.
We (two adults, one kid - 2 years old) spent a week last year in June in Vamos and really enjoyed it. The house is tastefully furnished, with a spacious master bedroom and a smaller bedroom downstairs.
Vamos itself is a charming village far from the maddening crowd. (And there are a couple of good restaurants)
It takes about 20 minutes to get to the sea and the beach there was perfect for small children and not crowded.
The recently restored stone house is located in peaceful lane within the unspoilt traditional village of Vamos. Two minutes stroll from the village square and most shops, bank and tavernas. The bakery is generally considered the best in the region.
The Village of Vamos has some of the best tavernas in the area, where tasty Cretan specialties are served accompanied by some of the island's best wines. The taverna Bloumosofi and the coffee shop Liakato are run by the Vamos preservation society. There are several other tavernas where an equally friendly welcome and good food await.
Vamos which lies midway between Chania and Rethymnon, is a 10 minute drive from several beaches including Almyrida and Kalives. A 20 minute journey with panoramic views will take you to Georgioupolis.
