Why Monica and Paul Shelmandine chose Wells
We love the look and location of this cabin. Once we had a chance to see the charm and coziness of the interior, we knew that, with a little TLC, this could be a relaxing family retreat. This is our second property in Wells and we are so happy that we can share its charm with you.
What makes this Cabin unique
The cabin has an extra large lot, with views of Lake Algonquin. It is only a short walk to where the watercraft are launched, and to our Association's private sandy beach.

We loved our stay in the pines
We had a really great time staying here, even in the fall. The cabin is incredibly well equipped and cosy, and we enjoyed kayaking on the lake, sitting by the fireplace, cooking dinners in the kitchen and exploring the local area.
Many thanks, Paul and Monica, for a lovely stay, your efficient communication, and for sharing this space so others can enjoy this beautiful part of the northeast.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was exactly as described and was very cozy. Everything was very clean and in working order. Great place to stay in the Adirondacks.
Wells, NY - Rix family vacation
This cabin was the perfect place for us to stay during our vacation. It was very central to the activities we were looking for- whitewater rafting, hiking and kayaking. Working with Monica and Paul was so easy and they gave us a lot of ideas for things to do while we were there. The house is clean and all of the amenities are there... the kitchen was PERFECT! They even have a tea pot. We loved sitting by the bon fire and taking advantage of the 3 kayaks they have. Our vacation was so much fun. We all came home ready for the new school year - rested and recharged.
Great Family Vacation Spot
This house is one of the best places my family has stayed at in 8+ years of summer weekly rentals.
Everything is new and super clean. The kitchen, bathroom and furniture are clean and the house has no signs of mildew or smells of an old house like so many rental houses do.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook all of your meals, and when combined with the propane grill and the fire pit, you are all set. Abundant spices were available in the spice rack. The stove, dishwasher, microwave are brand new, plenty of knives, pots and pans and dinnerware.
We used the kayaks several times,. The lake is special, during the week there were no signs of motor boats, just fellow kayakers. I kayaked down to the opposite end of the lake where there are marshy "wetlands" and saw a variety of birds including a huge blue heron.
The screened porch is a delight to sit and eat or play games in. The beds are new and extremely comfortable.
The only negative is that the house isn't on the water but you can glimpse the lake from the porch. To kayak, you need to pull the boats on dolly's about a block and a half to the launch site. Not too bad. The house is certainly priced accordingl.
I would highly reccomdend to anyone looking for a peaceful family or couple vacation.
Unplug with a quiet getaway
We have rented from vrbo numerous times, but this was by far our best vacation. The house was just as advertised. Clean and well stocked with paper products, toys, and everything you could need in the kitchen. Theres extra blankets, chairs, outdoor toys, etc. The spices came in handy when grilling. The house is perfect for a small family of 4. we enjoyed walking to the private beach area. Using the provided kayaks and relaxing on the porch. The location was secluded yet close enough to all the hiking and local destinations. wifi in the house was great, phones dont work anywhere in town and you need to drive some distance for coverage (which was great way to unplug). The neighbors were very friendly and the street was quiet enough our kids could ride their bikes outfront. The town of Wells, while small is delightful. Two small stores, ice cream shop, and a park. We also enjoyed the small museum. The beach in town offers plenty of sunshine, tables, and a diving board. The lifeguards were friendly and helpful. We had the opportunity to meet the other home owners at a neighborhood picnic. everyone was welcoming and offered travel tips. While we didnt need assistance while at the home, the hosts were helpful and quick with any questions we had. The only drawback we had was no washer and dryer (which we knew prior) but the town has a laundromat which we used midweek to wash suits and towels.
The owners were very accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The cabin was very clean and well kept.
Wells Commons, behind Town Hall, has basketball and tennis/pickle ball courts. Swing sets and other playground items.
Wells Public Beach is located at the north end of the town, right off Rt 30.
