A traditional country cottage built in the 1700s by the Marquis d'Andigné for his closest confidante, having been part of the estate of the adjoining château until a few years ago. Our cottage is built of beautiful tuffeau stone, and is one of the very few such properties for rent in the Loire. The cottage is on two acres with original outbuildings including a stone barn and charming pigeonnier, which was used to send messages by carrier pigeon to and from the château. The adjoining château on 800ha is still the home of the Marquise today.
Secluded driveway opening to private 2 acre parkland setting with the magnificent château as backdrop. There are no other properties adjoining - the entire property and pool are exclusively yours! Recently restored to pristine condition. Sympathetic decor in muted colours and natural tones highlight the exposed stonework and natural features, adding to the sense of tranquility.
Upstairs: 4 large bedrooms sleeping 8 ,plus 2 may sleep on a futon downstairs and a child's travel cot, a full bathroom (WC, bath, shower). Downstairs: Fully fitted kitchen, bathroom (WC, shower), two large receptions and large utility room (cuisine d'été). Reception rooms each have their own fireplace - main reception includes traditional bread oven. Outbuildings include large barn and traditional stone 'pigeonnier'. Formal lavender garden and ancient well on the property, fed by an underground stream, next to beautiful mature walnut tree ('noyer'). Southwest sunny aspect. Large private pool: 11m by 5m, or 36' by 17' .
Our stay in the Loire Valley was truly memorable. The house was everything we had hoped for, rural, comfortable, well-stocked with all mod cons and everything one could need for a stress free holiday. We particularly liked the large dining room with its fireplace, in which we enjoyed 4 family meals. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, and the garden is tranquil so I enjoyed my time sitting there, listening to insects, hearing the hum of a distant tractor, reading books, while the real world grinded on elsewhere.
The area is ideal for walking, cycling & jogging. The roads, though narrow are quiet and peaceful; I didn't meet a car when I was out for an hour or more. I walked or jogged to Brion on several occasions to buy bread, had coffee in the local bar.
The local supermarket, 5 mins by car, had everything you could need. Beaufort en Vallee has a nice market, a good bread shop and a quaint square. We also had lunch "Le Bonne Humeur" on three occasions. The food was fresh, the premises clean and the service good humoured and efficient. Prices were excellent for the menu du jour.
Our stay in the Loire valley was wonderful. We would recommend the area and the house to our family and friends and we hope to return in the future.
Such a wonderful week. The house is so spacious and welcoming , we slept very well indeed and the TV was a blessing for the age range of our children. The surroundings are idyllic , truly magical, undisturbed peace and tranquility. The outdoor space has everything we needed, the pool was a a huge hit !! We ventured out to wine taste and there are many local places to visit. The local supermarket is a 3 minute drive and is very well equipped. Our week went far too quickly but we thoroughly enjoyed and made many family memories. I can't recommend this property enough having stayed in many over the years this house is indeed the favourite of all the family.
We would definitely return to this little piece of heaven...... We loved it and we were sad to leave.

Lovely gite just as the description. Deirdre made the booking process very easy and was responsive to any questions. If you are looking for super smart, contemporary Accomodation then it's not for you. If you want a comfortable house, furnished with character, clean, a pool in a lovely location then I would certainly recommend it. We had a wonderful holiday.
We chose Monet Les Blanchardières as the location of our first ever extended-family vacation. We could not have been happier. Our group was made up of four couples and three toddlers and while the sleeping accommodation was a little tight, the rest of the house could comfortably cater for our family. My husband and I stayed for almost two weeks and the remainder of our group stayed for 1 week.
The weather at the end of August, for the most part, was sunny but not very hot - although we did make some use of the large pool. The area is quiet and safe enough to explore - making good use of the bicycles provided.
Although remote, the cottage is only a few minutes drive to the nearest town and supermarket in Beaufort en Vallee - a visit we made most days. The village of Brion is within cycling distance and nice to explore. The town of Saumur is also closeby and well worth a visit.
The cottage is fully equipped with everything you need to cater for a large family. The owners and past visitors have provided lots of information regarding things to do in the area, restaurants worth a visit, golf courses, zoos etc. etc.. It has a cosy, warm feeling for cooler evenings and is lovely and cool on the warmer days.
We enjoyed our stay in Monet Les Blanchardieres and would highly recommend it for a relaxing holiday. We would love to return.
We had a terrific vacation in the Loire and absolutely loved this house! The setting is perfect-- remote enough that you feel like you are truly "away from it all" in the French country, yet a quick (30-40 minute) drive to the action of Angers and Saumer.
The house is absolutely beautiful and is exactly what you imagine a French country cottage to be, except updated with modern conveniences. With the gorgeous chateau and pasture as the backdrop, you truly feel like you are living in a fairytale.
My traveling companions and I whole-heartedly recommend this home to anyone looking for an authentic French country experience. We will be back!
We had a very relaxing holiday at Monet Les Blanchardieres in July. As there were only 4 of us, one couple and two singles there was plenty of space and the facilities were perfect. (There maybe a bit of a scrum for the two bathrooms if there were 8 to 10 people). The setting of the cottage, private and surrounded by farmland was ideal. The swimming pool was probably the best holiday pool we have come across, clean, large and sheltered for those breezy days. The layout of the cottage was excellent with a good sized kitchen with all the facilities and in the dining room a lovely big table seating 10. The cottage was very clean and we really appreciated the cotton sheets!
The obvious attractions in the area were of course the chateaux on the Loire all with easy driving distance. We ate out several times but as it was so lovely at the cottage we tended to eat at home. The supermarkets were excellent; we preferred the one at Longues as the vegetables seemed fresher, worth driving 10 more minutes to get there. Lots of lovely local markets for fresh vegetables and bread.
Fantastic area for cycling, you could cycle for miles and hardly come across any cars - many nice and flat roads off the beaten track for anyone who wants to take it easy.
Booking the cottage was very simple and the owners were very helpful and friendly. We were very well looked after on site by Marion who was very informative with regards to the local attractions and activities. (Thank you for that delicious bottle of cider which she left in the fridge as part of the welcome pack.)
I would highly recommend the property to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday but also who wants to see the beautiful Loire and its chateaux.
My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing week at this gorgeous house. It is the ideal spot for a relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings. The house was spotlessly clean and very well equiped and has a lovely swimming pool. The surrounding countryside is perfect for cycling and the local towns great for food shopping. Further away are larger towns/cities which have a good selection of bars, restaurants and chateau's to discover. It is a house which we would love to revisit in the future.
Located in the Anjou, with Muscadet to the west and Bourgueil and Saumur to the east. The food of the area is world-renowned, and almost every town has a weekly market selling the freshest and most delectable products. The closest château is Montgeoffroy, a 10 minute drive away. A drive east takes you past the most famous châteaux in all of France: Saumur, Ussé, Langeais, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Amboise and Chenonceau. For the practicalities, there are numerous supermarkets and convenience stores in beautiful Beaufort-en-Vallée, a 5 minute drive away. The closest village is the tiny hamlet of Brion, a pleasant 1½km walk or bike ride away.
Family activities: There are a wide range of activities for families with children to enjoy, including Château d'Ussé, where the legend of Sleeping Beauty was conceived. There are also many golf courses, the closest being in Baugé. There is a small lake for swimming, fishing, boating etc.
Other Activities: within state park 'Parc Naturel Regional Anjou', UNESCO site
