Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom (conv. 5th), 3 bathroom with room to entertain family and friends

Twenty-Three Ward is a 2650 square foot, 4 bedroom (with an office which is a convertible 5th bedroom,) three full naturally sunlit bathrooms with Toto and Kohler fixtures. There is a large beautiful kitchen with Cararra marble counters, white shaker kitchen cabinets, a 36" Bertazzoni range, Fisher Paykel double dish drawer (dishwasher) and a Bosch refrigerator.

It has a gas fireplace in the center of the large living room and a spacious hardwood deck on the rear of the house (with gas grill and outdoor dining furniture), overlooking the tree-lined lawn in the backyard. All of our neighbours spray (safely) for Mosquitos, so it's one of the few yards in Cape Porpoise that you can enjoy in the summer evening without needing a blood transfusion!

There will be an extra large dining room table for hosting dinner for not only the guests of the house, but friends and family that you invite over. Every room in the house has speakers wired into the ceilings which are controlled by a Sonos system, so you can ensure that you have a soundtrack to your vacation! We can also arrange for you to get lobsters right off the boat (not retail!) from a lobsterman friend of mine. There is nothing like a lobster that has only been out of the ocean for less than 15 minutes.

It's adjacent to both my parents home (where I grew up) and my sister & brother in law's home (also for rent on VRBO #698058), but has frontage on Ward Road which is an extremely quiet street in the center of Cape Porpoise. If you found a rare weekend when both houses were available, you could have quite a compound!

There is also deeded access to a private beach on Paddy's Cove within walking distance- at high tide, it's the perfect place to take a swim, launch a paddle board, canoe, kayak or simply lay out!

About Jack Spencer

I was raised in Maine and now live in Brooklyn, NY with my beautiful wife, 3 year old son and 7 month old daughter. I went to George Washington University for finance and directly after graduation, I moved back to Cape Porpoise to help my parents develop some family land. I actually learned carpentry working on one of the houses right through the woods! I moved to NYC to work in construction and development, which is where I met my wife. Now I own a real estate and construction consulting and development firm and work for myself. My family and I try to get back to Maine as often as possible to see my parents who are now grandparents and my sister and brother in law who are very excited to be an aunt and an uncle! I enjoy cooking, cycling and entertaining!

Jack Spencer purchased this house in 2013

Why Jack Spencer chose Cape Porpoise

My wife and I had been trying to figure out how to carve off a piece of property from my parents land, which my sister did successfully the year before, for several years, with very little success. My wife and I went to Newport, RI, on our first overnight trip without our son, the day after Thanksgiving in 2013 when we got a phone call from my father who said that this house came on the market! We rushed home, took a tour and made an offer that same weekend!

The interesting thing about the property is that it's not only adjacent to the property on which I grew up, it's also adjacent to my sister and brother in law's home.

My mother designed the addition that we put on the house, my father GC'd it, my brother-in-law did all of the carpentry, I sourced many of the materials and my wife is decorating it! I's rare to be able to keep it in the family that way, but it makes our home that much more special.

It would have been much less expensive to tear the whole house down and start over, but having grown up in the neighbourhood, and known the former owner very well (she was a teacher of mine in elementary school), we felt a sense of responsibility to the community to not only do something that fit in on the street, but also do our part to improve it as much as possible.

What makes this house unique

Please visit the home's instagram page and see for yourself (@23wardroad)! Give me a call if you want to talk about the home! Real estate is a passion of mine, which I eat, sleep, and breathe so talking about it, particularly when I know all the intimate details of the home is exciting to me!

Modern, Spacious and Serene

  • 5 of 5

We had 10 grown women COMFORTABLY stay in this home and there was still an extra bed that could have been used! The kitchen/living area is open except for the beautiful fire place that sets as a "divide" between the two rooms. The yard is quintessential Maine with tall trees surrounding the property and it's only STEPS from the harbor! We had an amazing stay and will DEFINITELY be back.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This is such a wonderful property! The house was immaculate, well-equipped, and very comfortable. We had plenty of space for all 11 family members, ages 1-69 years, to spread out and relax. The backyard was perfect for the kids and we enjoyed strolling down to the grocery store and little coffee shop. The owners did an excellent job leaving helpful instructions regarding the various appliances and we really appreciated their recommendations for restaurants and fun activities to do with the kids. We would happily rent this house again!

Great house near the ocean

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't be more happy to stay in this perfect house. The neighboroud is quiet and friendly, very close to Kennebunport but far enough to be away from the traffic it attracts. Goose Rock Beach is also a short drive, and most important, the house is perfectly equiped, and big enough so everybody can find a quiet space. We shall come back ! Luc

Great updated house for our whole family

  • 5 of 5

Such a great house to spend our summer vacation. Plenty of space for the family to spread out. Cape Porpoise is such a quaint town too. Walked every morning down to the pier then stopped at the Cape Porpoise kitchen for a coffee.

So relaxing and we all had a great week. One thing you may want to know is there is no AC. That was difficult a couple says as the temps were in the upper 80's . Other than that everything was great !

Very comfortable new house in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to Maine, and we could not had rented a better house for our family of 7. It is brand new home, large, very clean and well equipped, very comfortable and with an excellent location on a quiet street. You are close to the town center, beaches, and the major area roads, and withing walking distance to very nice restaurants and beautiful sea views.

Jack is very pleasant, was always available for any minor issue and gave us very good advise on restaurants and beaches.

This is a house that we would definitely rent again in the future.

We stayed for almost 2 weeks and everything was great! House has plenty of "zones" for socializing, playing games, etc. Very spacious. Beds were comfor table. Location was awesome for walks to store and restaurants. Neighborhood was pretty quiet. Definitely one of the best houses we've rented.
