Welcome to 'Haus Wussler'! Herzlich willkommen!
Haus Wussler sits high above the Kinzig valley overlooking the historic old town of Gengenbach on the eastern side of the Black Forest.
We’d not visited the area before and having booked online, were taking a bit of a risk with both the location and accommodation. However, our concerns were unfounded as Haus Wussler exceeded our expectations in every respect. The apartments were well furnished and clean with beautiful views over the surrounding valley and forested hills. The owners could not do enough to help by pointing out local events and areas of interest, as well as local restaurants and shops. Haus Wussler is a working farm and children are encouraged to help at feeding time. For adults, there is an opportunity to sample and purchase the Schnapps produced on the farm.
Gengenbach provides a great base for exploring the Black Forest and the Alsace, just across the Rhine in France. However, a car is essential unless you want to spend your time walking or cycling around the local area. Places as far away as the Titisee and Freiburg are easy enough to visit in a day.
We have no hesitation in recommending Haus Wussler for either a quiet relaxing holiday or as a base to explore the area. The owners are the ideal hosts and we are grateful to them for that. We’ll be back!
Unfortunately our stay was marred by unseasonable weather - lots of rain. This meant that we did not really get to enjoy the associated patio. It is a convenient location for Gengenbach and the rest of the Black Forest. It is about 3K distance from Gengenbach and has a quiet location. Gengenbach is the nearest location for supermarkets and petrol.
The flat was of a reasonable size on the first floor - two sets of stairs. It had most facilities except the internet and an in house washing machine. The internet was charged at 4 euros per day per device used! Be warned that mobile internet in the Black Forest is sparse. Each wash was also priced at 4 euros.
We were the only families present during our stay and it was therefore nice and quiet. The TV only had BBC world service and euro news so do not expect English entertainment via the TV.
We really enjoyed our trip to Haus Wussler. We arrived to find Barbara had left lots of Easter chocolate for us and the children - how kind! The accomodation was very clean and comfortable. The children loved football in the meadow and ping pong. We had a great time exploring the local area - visiting gengenbach, triberg and of course Europa Park. A beautiful area. Thank you for a great holiday!!
We stayed in the Garden apartment for two weeks. The property is immaculately clean, very we'll maintained . Wonderful setting with breath taking views. So peaceful and relaxing. A short drive away (or walk) into Gengenbach. The most beautiful little town with picturesque architecture and many good restaurants. Barbara and Erwin are very friendly and very willing to help in any way. Very dog friendly, as are all the restaurants in the area.We shall be returning very soon. The Scotts
We stayed in the Swallow's Nest Apartment for a second time. As last year the apartment was faultless, and Barbara and Erwin were excellent hosts. There are many beautiful walks right from Haus Wussler, ideal for nature lovers.
Gengenbach is a charming small town, with many restaurants, and lovely shops too.
There are beautiful scenic drives in the area, but you can also travel by train from Gengenbach. We caught the train using the Konus Card, to Freiburg which was a beautiful city. Another day we caught the train to Karlsruhe which we also enjoyed although there were major road works in the city centre.
We would definitely recommend Haus Wussler and would love to stay here again.
My fiancee and I spent a wonderful week at house Wussler last year. Barbara and her husband were very welcoming and we enjoyed going on hikes in the beautiful black forest. Gengenbach was a nice town to visit and we took home some great memories. The apartment was clean, spacious and had a great view from the balcony. Home away from home. Definitely recommended.
