Great place for family reunions. Plenty of room and very relaxing on the lake!!
The house is aesthetically appealing but is lacking in a few areas and some things are a bit unfinished. The cleaning crew that they have does not do the best job and there were some areas that we had to clean when we got there. The lake is extremely muddy and not much fun for the adults that went on the trip, but the kids didn't mind as much as we did. The propert managers were very punctual and helpful when a problem arose. We brought our own kayaks and did enjoy visiting the island right across the lake. This house however is a 45 minute drive to a town with shopping centers, even though it's inly 15 miles away, and is down a dirt road 2.5 miles, which we did not know when we rented it. This was quite an inconvenience. Over all a nice stay, all things considering
The house is very large and has a lot of comfort and emenities. It lacks dining seating for 16 people which is how many the home could sleep. In addition, there are many unfinished parts of the house... Including outlet covers and switches for lights. Also, our children found a knife on the sand on the beach and other garbage by the water. The house was mostly clean but the carpet in the first floor living room smelled awful. We had a great time staking in Maine but are not sure we would stay at that house again.
We had a fabulous vacation but the house could use some improvements.
This house is huge, clean, well maintained and the owner is very responsive to questions and concerns. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and be where they want to be. With 3 bathrooms and lots of space for your stuff, this place is great for larger groups (or smaller if you want to feel like you're living in a Mansion). With 2 bedrooms on the main floor, it is perfect for those that don't feel like managing the stairs. We had a great time in the evenings while cheering on the USA in the Olympics from the multiple family rooms. The lake was a nice attraction for both kids and adults. Many hours were spent swimming, kayaking, fishing or just floating around. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are nearby and we also took advantage of Lucerne Golf course, which is about a half hour drive. The kids enjoyed the Wild Acadia fun park with the Go-Carts, Mini golf and ropes course. The family friendly fishing trip out of Bar Harbor was great and we caught more fish than we could keep track of. The folks that went on the whale watch trip also were successful and had a good time. We even did our own lobster dinner. Plenty of shopping nearby in Ellsworth. If I had the opportunity I would rent this property again. It's so quiet here that my friend was joking with me that I should have picked a place that wasn't so noisy. If all you want to hear is the sound of the Loons, this is the place.
Laura's house was a great place for large family or several families. Peaceful, secluded yet not far from Ellsworth, Bangor, and Bar Harbour. We fished every morning and several nights. Sunrises were spectacular from house and dock and I made sure I didn't miss one. Sunsets on the water were, too. I caught a 4.2 lb large mouth bass and my husband caught 3.7 large mouth bass from dock. We also caught small mouth, sun fish, perch and catfish. My only regret was we could not find a reasonable boat rental place in area. The lake looked like it would have been fun to explore. Thanks Laura for a great week.
This was our first family vacation at Lauren's home . I brought my children and grandchildren . There were 14 of us with kids ranging in ages from 2 to 15.
The layout of the home allowed areas for the kids and adults to enjoy their own space yet plenty of opportunity for get togethers when desired.
Since I have had hip and knee surgery I was grateful for the downstairs bedroom and bath. The bathroom was easily accessible for me .
The upstairs laundry was not functioning during our stay but we were able to manage with the laundry on the main floor. Why anyone would want to watch TV at this home is questionable but with one email to Lauren ,the owner the cable was available on all the TVS.
The kitchen was well-equipped and the gas grill outside was used several times for picnics.
There was dust but being on a dirt road was the cause of that I am sure.
The view of the lake from the house was awesome! We saw a Bald Eagle fishing on the lake and watching the Loons dive under the water along with the sound of the birds singing in the morning was so relaxing.
Everyone who dropped a fishing line in the lake was not disappointed. The kids were thrilled with how many fish that they caught including bass, perch, sunnies and catfish. Using the paddle boat to explore the island was such an adventure for the kids, Swimming in the lake was a blast.
We did have to deal with the "Bug Life" but Hey, you are surrounded by woods and water . So,no surprise there. We brought bug repellant and citronella candles which worked quite well . Mosquitoes, and a few flies were worth the fun that we had.
The owner has put a lot of effort into making this house functional yet there is lots of "whimsy " here. From the stuffed creatures to the Maine artifacts throughout. This is truly a place for families and close friends to enjoy.
The upstairs Master Suite is absolutely amazing with its décor and privacy.
Shopping is about 40 minutes away in Ellsworth which offers good restaurants ,Walmart, churches etc. Acadia National Park is about an hour's drive with so many things to do from whale watching to hiking and beautiful scenery.
Planning this vacation was so easy because Lauren was so helpful. This home was more than we expected . We made memories to last forever.
My family and I would love to return again . Thanks to Lauren for allowing us to share her beautiful home !!!
If you are having a ton of people getting together, this is the place for you! We had 9 in our family, including 3 children, and it was perfect, with bedrooms left over.It is about a 15 minute drive through the woods, and at night driving it, we saw 3 deer just standing beside the road. The set up is amazing, with an actually stuffed bear and several other animals. I wouldn't let the kids go up to the 3rd floor, but they loved their rooms on the 2nd and the large sitting area. My husband and I stayed downstairs and I got a terrific nights sleep with the window opened, listening to nature in total darkness. A few minor issues, such as the upstairs washer and dryer not working, but we were fine with sharing the downstairs one. Also some strange electrical things like outlets with wrong covers, but the space and beauty of the place made up for it. Oh, and my son in law caught a large catfish one evening from the dock. Owner was super nice when booking and got back to me quickly on any questions I had. They even had a piano with sheet music, if you play. All in all, a wonderful time in the woods with family.
Swimming, boating, fishing, hiking. paddleboat for your use!!
