About Rita A Roy
I live in Victoria, British Columbia. and when I am not in Canada I love to spend time in Belize. I chose this location because it is an English speaking country in the Caribbean, has terrific weather and I especially like the people of Belize and I am very interested in the Mayan culture. There are so many things to see and do in this country, and getting around is quite easy. Visiting the little villages around the area is a delight and trips to the Mennonite communities is a wonderful experience. I enjoy visiting all the cities in Belize. A trip to Chetumal, Mexico is a must. It's only 12 miles to the border and the Free Zone is 3 miles away. Chetumal has everything that you could need, including a Sam's Club. Gas is so much cheaper there, that it's worth a trip.

Why Rita A Roy chose Corozal
Being located on a canal is a real plus, as it is only a half block to the open ocean. It doesn't get much better than this, yet the home is protected by being tucked away from the ocean front which can get pretty frantic during storm season. Two sides of our property is bordered by the canal, so there is little traffic in our area. Being away from downtown is a big plus, as we are not kept up by barking dogs.
What makes this House unique
I love the views from the property and enjoy the pool on a hot day. Just a dip in the pool can make my day as it is very refreshing, I also do exercises in the pool as it's a great way to relax. It is quieter here, as this is the last house on a dead end street. For that reason, I think it is safer as there is only one road in and out. We have a Neighborhood Watch on the street and everyone participates in keeping each other safe. Our alarm system also adds to our safety. The house is about a half mile to the main highway, that will take you any where you want to go in Belize. The house is built to Canadian and American standards, so you will feel very much at home here. We are a 20 minute walk to downtown, yet far enough away to enjoy a much quieter lifestyle.

Our 12 days in Corozal were lovely. Casa Royale was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. The house and grounds are very well maintained. We had a couple minor issues, but Rita was prompt to get them addressed.
Dear Jana, thank-you so much for choosing to stay at Casa Royale and for leaving the house in such pristine condition. You two are exemplary, what a pleasure it was to walk in the door and find everything so well looked after. I’d love to welcome you back, so when you need a break just let me know.
Home in Corazal
This home was not only beautiful, it was comfortable.
There was everything we we needed for a great stay.
Thank- you for your lovely review. It was our pleasure to have you stay, and I hope you will return soon.
Best regards, Rita and Willy
This place is a home away from home, it had great space to work and play. The master bedroom is more than comfortable, unfortunately the bathroom need to be a little brighter but that my opinion. Over all I would return to this quiet location.
Thank-you Greg for your lovely review. It was our pleasure to host you. Come back when you can.
The property was beautiful!
Our stay was nothing short of amazing! Rita met us at the house and explained everything. Her house is very well taken care of, and the grounds are beautiful! The pool was refreshing on those warm days. There is AC throughout, but we only needed it in the bedroom for sleeping. We will definitely stay again on our next trip down.
Thank-you so much for your lovely comments. It was a pleasure having you stay and we would be very pleased to have you return.
All the best,
Lovely accommodations, poor accoutrements
This is a lovely house, but it requires some attention to make it a lovely home.
The mattress in the second bedroom should be replaced. For anything more than a few nights, you'll likely prefer the couch. If you already are predisposed to having back issues, you're done for.
While we were there, the shower did not drain without waiting for an hour. With 4 adults getting ready, this was completely unacceptable, and could not possibly have been a "new" issue, unknown to the host.
The pool is lovely, but if you're hoping to lounge around the pool, you'll be disappointed that there are no suitable lounge chairs. Who comes to the Caribbean, rents a place with a pool, not expecting to lounge around it?
Kitchen supplies are lacking. I would never expect to have to buy aluminum foil, cling wrap, and the proper coffee filters. (The filters supplied are not correct causing the filter to collapse, grinds to plug up the coffee maker, and the basket doesn't seem to be removable, meaning you have to rinse the whole thing in the sink before brewing your next pot) Is this REALLY how I want to start my day?
The knives are of such poor quality you can probably let your children play with them without fear of injury, but you might get hurt using them, and the BBQ is of a similar quality to things I personally throw away.
Thanks for your review.
When coming to a third world country one cannot bring Canadian and American standards and demand that everything be the same as you have at home. It took a year to find a barbecue here in Belize. When knifes are dull we sharpen them and if need be we use two filters in the coffee pot. The house is well supplied, but if you need something like Saran Wrap and Tin foil those can be purchased at the store 5 minutes away.
I do apologize for the shower not draining properly. Had I known I would have arranged the hotel down the street for you, as it would be difficult to get someone there at Christmas. We dug up the outside plumbing lines and did find a restriction and were able to repair it.
I’m sorry you didn’t notice the beautiful surroundings, the friendly people, the lovely weather and so many other things that our visitors love about Belize and Casa Royale.
Great place, very comfortable
The house is very clean and comfortable, well maintained. The neighborhood is fantastic and the neighbors are very friendly and Corozal Town is minutes away. The caretaker, Ray, was here to meet us when we arrived and showed us the house. He provided his phone number in case of problems and checked up on us during our stay. Beautiful home, on a beautiful street in a beautiful country...what could be better?
Thank-you so much for your lovely words. We work hard to provide a beautiful, relaxed environment for our guests, and it is a pleasure when the details are noticed and appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you again.
Corozal town is about a 20 minute walk, where you will find banking, shopping, a market and interesting shops. This is a Caribbean town so shopping is better done in a bigger centre, but the town is colourful and interesting. There are plenty of restaurants and bars and dining out is very inexpensive. Your US dollar is worth twice as much here. One Mall, which is about a kilometer from the house has been a great addition. They have groceries, hardware, clothing and an inexpensive restaurant, liquor store and a gas station. There are Mayan ruins at Santa Rita which is on the outskirts of the town, well worth a visit. You can also do cave tubing, deep sea diving in Belize. There are a myriad of things to do. Don't forget biking, we have two bikes for your enjoyment.
We can assist you in visiting the neighboring areas, such as a visit to Chetumal, Mexico, Orange Walk or the villages in the area. We can also arrange tours for you, a jungle ride to visit the ruins at Lamani is a must. Of course, Chetumal, Mexico is only 12 miles away, and worth a visit. For duty-free shopping, the Free Zone is close by.
The Mennonites play a huge role in food production in Belize and a visit to their communities is well worthwhile. If you would like a guide to show you around, we can arrange for you to meet Willy who is the caretaker of the house, and a wonderful young man who can make a trip to Chetumal much easier as he is bilinqual.
