We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Fontemaggio. The farmhouse was perfect in such beautiful surroundings. Ideally located for some sightseeing too. Thank you so much- we will miss our time and lazy days by the pool!!
We had a great time even though the weather wasn’t the best. Sylvia was very helpful, we appreciated the welcome basket and fresh flowers and her recommendations. The kitchen could use some new knives. But overall a very unique home with a lot of character. Just an FYI. If you plan on wine tasting it is by appointment only and not always available. Another FYI was that if it is cold you will have to pay extra to turn the heater on, which is covered in the contract. It cost approximately 65 euro for the five days to run the heat for a few hours each of the five nights.
I'm so pleased that Debbie and her friends enjoyed their stay at Casa Fontemaggio in spite of the disappointing weather for the time of year. It's so helpful to get feedback about things that need fixing or replacing - it is the only way to know in a busy and popular property. However, the chefs who cook at Casa Fontemaggio, say they find the knives, particularly the two professional ones, to be good. They recommend that, due to regular usage, guests should make use of the knife sharpener provided. Although exceptionally unusual to require central heating in May, it is a fact of Italian life that heating fuel is very expensive. You will find, that for this reason, all rental properties charge separately for gas. Guests at Fontemaggio pay only for the metered amount of heating gas they use at the rate it costs me to buy it. I offer complimentary logs for the wood burning stove, adding to the character that these guests found so appealing about Casa Fontemaggio.
Magnificent home and location
We are incredibly grateful to Sylvia and her sweet pup Beppo for hosting us at Casa Fontemaggio for a week. What a marvellous home full of history with all the modern conveniences a family needs built in. Our family (2 adults, 3 boys aged 8-12) enjoyed every aspect of this home, from the comfortable and clean living spaces, the well appointed kitchen, the fireplace, the warm and cozy beds, the many outdoor spots to eat or read, and even the pool despite the cooler weather. The views in every direction were spectacular (the photos are wonderful but cannot do the live views justice) and the gardens were colourful and fragrant.
We also found it easy to explore the area, with sights and activities to be found in every direction (and Sylvia providing a helpful binder and lots of guidebooks to help). We drove to Arezzo and caught a train to Florence, a perfect day trip. We walked into Lippiani from the house and enjoyed meals in every village close by. The ancient town of Anghiari is not to be missed. Our boys found the local soccer (football!) pitch in Lippiani and even connected with some local kids for a game.
It was also easy to wile away a day at the house itself, reading, heading out for walks in search of lizards and poppies, lounging by the pool or just sitting and taking in the views. I cannot say enough about this home. I slept like I haven’t in years - thanks to the quiet, the fresh air, the birds. Everything. What a special place. We hope to return soon!
I was delighted that under the scrutiny of a writer Fontemaggio lived up to and beyond expectations.
It was remarkable that, during their short stay, Amy, Ian and the boys managed to enjoy so much of what is available locally. They really appreciated the simple pleasures that Fontemaggio and the surrounding area have to offer.
Fontemaggio is popular with writers. One who returns every year says she thinks the place has an ancient vibration that attracts them. It would be such a pleasure if it invited Amy and her family back.
We loved it! Highly recommend this property!!
This villa was everything we had hoped for. It is a charming property and the floor plan both inside and outside are well laid out. The kitchen had everything we needed; the bathrooms are modernized and the dining room and living/great room accommodated our group quite nicely. The weather was a bit too cool to enjoy the pool but we did take advantage of the patios for dinner when we didn’t go out. The villa with its elevation provides a wonderful view of the Lippiano Castle.
Sylvia was very helpful providing recommendations for day trips as well as restaurants.
We stayed almost two weeks and had a simply marvelous time there.
We highly recommend it!!
Perfection in the Tuscan Countryside
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home! The house, gardens, pool and views, a total delight! Favorite moments - having our morning coffee on the terrace watching the sun rise, illuminating the hillsides and Lippiano. Bellissimo!
If you want an authentic Tuscan countryside getaway this is the place! You will be far enough from the major tourist hubs to enjoy the beauty and peace of country living but close enough to the hustle and bustle if you so desire.
I am so pleased that Marilyn and Barry appreciated that Fontemaggio offers rural tranquility and a sense of solitude, yet has easy access to the excitement of Italian life on the street and to the key sites of interest. Bellissimo, sums up Fontemaggio perfectly!
Beautiful secluded period farmhouse surrounded by a wonderful garden with breathtaking views
We very much enjoyed our week's stay at Villa Fontemaggio. We were greeted on arrival by the extremely helpful owner Sylvia who gave us a comprehensive tour of both the villa and pretty garden with its circular pool. The property is clean and well maintained. We were left a delicious welcome pack containing all we needed the for following morning's breakfast and other treats. The bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable and well appointed and the living in and out areas are spacious and equipped with a large amount of reading matter appertaining to the area. There are extensive walks, the pool is most refreshing and the garden a delight to sit in. Many pleasant restaurants and bars are to be found a 5 minute drive away in the ancient town of Monterchi, The area is steeped in history and there are many medieval towns within easy access including Assisi and Sienna. We are most grateful to Sylvia for helping to make our holiday so pleasurable.
Coming from a fellow holiday rental owner, makes this review particularly meaningful. I am pleased that both the house and garden at Fontemaggio met Diana's undoubted high standards. I am not surprised that the group enjoyed their stay, as the only sound I heard from them was that of laughter. Historically Fontemaggio was reputed to have been popular as a party house and so I am delighted that the spirit lives on!
The local village of Monterchi is in the historic and desirable S.E. corner of Tuscany near the border with Umbria and is therefore an ideal location for visiting the key attractions of both regions: Arezzo 20 min, Cortona 35 min, Perugia and Gubbio 40 min, Assisi: 45 min, Florence, Siena, San Gimignagno: 1 hour. Within easy reach of several international and budget line airports and motorway routes.
Golf: There is a golf course, 15 minutes away by car.
