Open- plan studio with private parking and entrance with ocean glimpses.
About Dina Anderson
Darren & Dina met in 2001 when Dina worked as a Flight Attendant for British Midland International (based at London Heathrow) and Darren for Air Canada Jazz Cargo (based in Calgary AB). Having travelled extensively, they knew that Victoria BC was a beautiful place to settle and raise a family. They were blessed with their daughter Brooke in 2004 and converted an used area in their home into a B&B studio so that Dina could be a stay-at-home Mom and others could enjoy this tranquil area of natural beauty with their own temporary home away from home. Their guest book bears testament to the comfort of the studio and the diversity of local attractions. Brookhaven offers the best of British and Canadian hospitality and the privacy to come and go as you please. Brooke is now 11 and loves to show off her 'French immersion' skills with our multi-national guests. The beautiful sea-life nearby has inspired her to be a marine biologist and conservationist in adult life. Darren is employed at Victoria International Airport and Dina works part-time as a Cosmetician at a local Pharmacy.

Why Dina Anderson chose North Saanich
This modern home is set in it's own acre of woodland. It has tidal ocean views and is set back in a high location to afford privacy. We still love to travel so close proximity to the ferry and airport is important. Sidney is a great place to raise a family and the population is mature and friendly. Every season has something special to offer and we feel comfortable and safe here.
What makes this Studio unique
Being surrounded by ocean is wonderful. Little remote beaches and walking trails are tucked away to explore. The July 1st Canada & Christmas Parades are spectacular for such a small community. The Thursday Street summer market is also a treat all summer long. Our home is great in that each part of it has great privacy,

A B and B is typically sought for the interaction between the owner and the customer. I did not find this here.
We are happy that Nancy enjoyed her time with us. She was a great guest & we wish her all the best in her new home which was being completed during her month with us.
I wish to reply to her remark that she expected more interaction with us as hosts. I believe that there was a time when people chose to stay in a B&B to sit around the family breakfast table. I remember exactly that as a child staying in farmhouses in the UK, playing with the children that lived there & enjoying the farm animals. The downside of such an arrangement was waiting for the bathroom to be free, bumping into our hosts in the hallways in the night, & being expected to make ourselves scarce during the day - after all, they were only offering Bed & Breakfast.
We advertise our studio as 'Self-contained' with private entrance & parking. We know our guests have not come to visit us, they are here for all sorts of reasons: vacation, for peace & quiet, to visit relatives, business trips, to attend weddings, the list goes on & on. It is our host style to be on hand & available, but not to intrude. We want to offer the comfort of a home with the privacy of an hotel. We live at Brookhaven, so can be sought out if required, & it's always nice to have a chat in passing, but we want to afford our guests maximum privacy so they can sleep in (or all day if that's what they wish to do) without the intrusion of someone knocking on their door every day.
In the off season, we only rent by the month or longer. We do not provide food for our monthly guests, so this reduces the amount of host contact even more. Having a whole private suite to themselves gives them way more then just bed, & breakfast, & there is no expectation that they will be out during the day.
I believe that the privacy aspect of our property has endeared us to travellers who would not normally stay in a B&B but would normally opt for an impersonal hotel room.
Times have changed, & I believe the role of host families have too. That said, I'll drink wine with anyone - just say the word!
Nice cozy B&B
Great stay! The homemade bread was awesome. Thanks again for your hospitality.
Thank you Christine. It was great to be able to host you and your charming family. You were fabulous guests, and would be most welcome anytime you return to visit your daughter at her University.
Wishing you all the very best!
Charming, well-appointed apartment perfect for couples visiting east coast of Vancouver Island
We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable and very well-equipped ground-level apartment which is 'small but perfectly formed'. It was super-clean with an excellent shower, and breakfast provided was generous and varied - Dina's delicious raisin bread especially recommended! It has a lovely garden with barbeque and tall trees, making it feel secluded although only minutes away from the Vancouver ferry. Ideal for exploring the beautiful Gulf islands of the Saanich peninsula, as well as the capital Victoria. Dina is an attentive host and went out of her way to make us comfortable. Would happily return and recommend, especially for couples.
I'm so glad that your family enjoyed their stay. Our private secluded garden is perfect for relaxing & the BBQ is great for those warm summer evenings. I'm happy you made use of both!
It's always a pleasure to host guests from overseas. Our location & studio were perfect for you to use as a base to show off this beautiful area to your parents.
We hope you will return soon. Good luck with the extension of your working visa.
Please pass my regards and thanks to your parents.
Our family of 3 stayed here for 10 days. Very disappointed when we arrived - the pictures were not accurate and need to be updated. Property was dirty and in need of some repairs. There were piles of debris around the property and old lawn equipment stored beside the broken porch swing that is featured in the outdated photo. The inside of the B&B had several dead bugs and ant traps in several places. The bed frequently had spiders and we were woken a few times with bugs crawling on us. There were ants all over the suite for the entire stay, even crawling all over the walls and ceiling.
The fridge was well stocked with food when we arrived as told it would be. However, the jam jars had all been used by previous tenants and the milk was undated and quickly spoiled. There were three used boxes of cereal, that were half full and stale, left for us to use. There was old bacon fat or grease sitting on the counter left from previous tenants in a ceramic dish. Due to this first impression we felt it would be best for us to purchase and consume our own groceries for breakfast. Much of the food provided had to be thrown away as it was spoiled.
There were multiple tenants in the owners home coming and going at all hours. We often couldn't sleep (or we were woken up in the night) due to noise upstairs and on the other side of the studio wall that included very loud stomping, banging, yelling, fighting and guitar playing.
We understand this is a business and you can't please everyone. We had hoped for a clean, quiet, stress-free place to stay and did not experience that. We asked for very little and it was met with reminders from the owners via text of how busy they are. We tried to be respectful of their busy schedule.
Communication from the owners was unprofessional and aggressive when a minor concern was raised at the end of our stay. They claimed to be unable to speak face to face due to their busy work schedule and only addressed an additional charge they were seeking at the last minute through text messages. My husband was called names/sworn at by the owners when he said their communication was unprofessional and inappropriate. We regret staying here and would not stay here again.
Which of these is not like the others? This review. It is malicious, spiteful and inaccurate. Considering this family left owing me money, having damaged property in the suite & leaving dog poop in my driveway, it should be me complaining.
The most surprising thing about this whole matter is that none of these complaints were raised during their 10 day stay. The majority of points here are completely untrue: the studio is in a good state of repair, the porch swing is not broken, the abandoned equipment is the lawn mower we are using.
My first text from this woman says "Things look great here & we appreciate everything you did to prep the B&B". A couple of days later she asked for more juice & bread & said "It has been wonderful to have this place as our homebase". Our communication was like this throughout the whole stay.
The family asked us to purchase additional cable channels as they wanted to watch sport. It was agreed that they would pay for this & we complied.
We live in an acre of woodland. We had a baby fawn in the yard all day yesterday, & regularly are visited by bunnies, hummingbirds, woodpeckers etc. It is inevitable that the odd bug will seek refuge indoors. We certainly are not infested as this review suggests. We encourage the wildlife by providing food for the birds, hence the pot of fat (with lid) on the counter, & sign saying I use this fat to make fatballs.
Our household is peaceful. We share with a senior couple. There is no shouting, fighting, stomping. There is a little acoustic guitar playing. We do work late, but our accommodation is 2 floors up & we park elsewhere.
A reminder for payment on the eve of departure by text was met with an aggressive text from this woman's husband. Calling me sleazy & unprofessional he suggested I cash in their empty bottles to cover the cable charge. To be fair, when I subsequently did take in the recycling, it went a fair way towards it. The large number of hard liquor bottles in my opinion also explained the irrational & aggressive texts, & this spiteful nasty review.
I spoke to the husband face to face on 3 occasions. Not a word of complaint was forthcoming. Our exchanges were pleasant. This review is designed to impact my future business. Luckily most people are smart enough to read between the lines.
VRBO has provided me with an amazing multi-national selection of lovely friendly guests. Unfortunately not in this case.
Life is too short to hold grudges. I will move on & leave this to Karma.
Recently spent 4 nights at Brookehaven B&B and would recommend Dina's place to out travellers. Whilst outside of downtown Victoria we found the location to be excellent and allowed of to explore not only downtown but also take day trips to Duncan. Within a short drive to the ferries and the airport whict and close by is Butchart Gardens. Dina provided clear directions to her B&B and was there to meet us when we arrived. Accommodation was clean with excellent wi fi.
The homemade fresh bread was an unexpected delight. And the deers we spotted nearby.
Wouldnt hesitate to recommend Dina's place. Expectional value.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and had a chance to explore our local treasures. Located on the Peninsula we have amazing views and unspoilt beaches at every turn. You certainly packed a lot into your short stay - I forgot to ask you if you made it to the Gin Distillery, the Aquarium or the Thursday night Street Market? Maybe next time if you didn't have time on this visit.
Thank you for your kind review and hurry back, we'd love to host you again at Brookhaven.
Enjoyed our week in this quiet getaway! Loved the peaceful location and homemade bread and yummy breakfast choices. We were greeted by a friendly host shortly after arriving and saw deer and other wildlife as we left to sightsee in the late mornings. Enjoyed celebrating our anniversary away from all the hustle bustle yet close enough to the famous Butchart gardens and Victoria fun to enjoy other activities too. Thanks for a great week!
We are so glad you enjoyed your time with us. Happy Anniversary to you both. We love the wildlife in our garden and are so glad you got to see a couple of our regulars.
Looking forward to hosting you again sometime! Thank you!
We are situated on an acre of private woodland on the scenic Saanich Peninsula. We are walking distance from the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal gateway to the Gulf Islands. Canoe Cove with it's coffee shop and The Stonehouse Restaurant and Pub is also walking distance.
The charming seaside town of Sidney with its Ocean Discovery Centre, Bowling Alley, Cinema, wide range of restaurants and shopping is just minutes away. Take an evening stroll down the pier or visit the street market on summer Thursday evenings. Whale watching trips depart twice a day in the summer months. Sidney Spit is easily accessible by water-taxi - take a picnic and enjoy the unspoilt beaches.
Victoria is just a short drive away (or catch the express bus from the ferry terminal). Hop around the scenic inner harbour using the tug-boat ferries and sample Barbs Fish & Chips in James Bay. The Imax and BC Museum are close by. You can take tea at The Empress or breakfast at The Legislature. Explore Market Square for great shopping and be sure to walk down Fan-Tan Alley to Chinatown.
Butchart Gardens (with Saturday night fireworks throughout the summer)
and the Butterfly Gardens are a 20 minute drive away and both offer year-round beauty.
Closer to home, The Muse Winery and Sea-Cider Farm offer wonderful views and relaxed tastings.
For those who like to keep fit - Panorama Recreation Centre offers swimming, gym, seasonal skating, tennis and squash - plus a great childrens playground outside.
Brentwood Bay offers more dining opportunities, access to the Mill Bay Ferry and kayak and paddleboard rental facilities.
Being located on the Peninsula we are surrounded by ocean and dozens of uncrowded beaches. You can be as busy or relaxed as you choose.
