PRIVATE BEACH ACCESS LOCATED ACROSS THE STREET FOR SCALLOP COVE VILLA RENTERS.
We decided on a last minute trip to Cape San Blas and found it very easy working with Coastline Vacation Rentals making arrangements. The surf fishing on the gulf right across the street was a lot of fun. There is a helpful bait and tackle shop right there that set us up with licenses and gear. The unit was very clean and a great value. The air conditioning worked wonderfully when it was hot out. When it cooled down we enjoyed the beautiful views over the bay.
The property is conveniently located between the bay and the beach but what the description and photographs do not show is that the property is located behind a gas station/convenience store - lots of cars and foot traffic. The description and photos also do not show that you can barely walk around the room with the queen bed - it's a really tight squeeze. Overall the property was clean and again the location was very convenient to the beach and the bay via the dock. The size of the property was overall a little too small for two adults, a small child and a dog, but may work for others. We just needed more room to move around and the lack of dishwasher was pretty inconvenient.
It was nice and convenient, my only complaint would be there is no privacy on the screened porch. It could use a wall on the sides so you didn't have hang out with your neighbors if you didn't want to. Otherwise, it is all you need.
I had debated between rating the property as four stars or five stars, and the customer service provided by Elizabeth definitely swung my vote to the five stars. The few things I didn't like about the cottage were mostly because I had different expectations. In spite of the checkout instructions saying to put your dishes in the dishwasher, there wasn't a dishwasher. There were no filters for the coffee pot, no dishes to store leftover food in, no salt or pepper, no closets to store belonging in (and few drawers), only one roll of toilet paper. The cottage was small. None of this is bad as long as you know what to expect. The things I loved about the cottage were much more important. The decor was beautiful - this is probably the prettiest place I've ever stayed. Although we didn't have time to use them, there was a cart of items to use at the beach, a varied collection of movies and of books. The location was perfect. My husband fished from a kayak daily, and he could just leave the kayak tied to the dock in the bay right in the back yard. The walk to the beach only took 3 to 4 minutes. (It's across the street, down a short boardwalk, and over a small sand dune.) There was plenty of cookware, plenty of towels, plenty of hot water and water pressure in the shower. The back porch is large, with half of it screened in (which helped block the wind on windy mornings and helped cut down on the number of insects). On top of this, the level of customer service provided by Elizabeth was phenomenal. The laundry facilities mentioned in the description actually belong to the store/gas station right behind the cottages. We only packed enough clothes for half our stay (to save room while packing), planning to do laundry mid-week. When we started to do laundry that Wednesday, the facilities were closed because the washers were broken. We contacted Elizabeth asking for options. The closest laundromat is in Port St. Joe, and going there to do laundry would have taken half a day of our limited time. She actually sent someone to pick up our laundry, wash it, and return it. Way over the top and beyond our expectations - but really, really appreciated! We definitely want to come back! (We actually wouldn't mind living here!)
We really enjoyed this villa. It had everything we needed. The view was spectacular. The dock was a great feature. We brought our kayaks and fishing gear and were able to get out on the water and fish and paddle with ease. The location is great. Under 20 minutes from Port St. Joe. The store and bait shop behind the villas had just about anything we needed. The bedrooms are small, but we didn't spend too much time in them anyway. The living area is comfortable and there is a covered and uncovered porch for hanging out. The queen bed was quite comfortable. The twin bed, however, is not as comfortable and would probably be better for a child. It was fun meeting our neighbors on either side. They were such nice people. Elizabeth was great to work with. Overall a great place to stay!
Scallop Cove satisfied our needs to a tee. We had to evacuate Myrtle Beach due to hurricane Mathew, so we didn't have a lot of choices. And it ended up being a comfortable space - especially if you have a four-legged buddy. Huge yard for play and exercise. The sunrise is amazing and the cottage was more than satisfactory. Loved having a screened in porch. We would like two bathrooms, so that was the one drawback for us. The gal we worked with was a doll, very helpful and very sweet! We will come back. I had made a suggestion that the front door be painted. It didn't give a good first impression. Cottage was much nicer and cleaner on the inside.
2016: I've been staying at the Scallop Cove cabins annually for many years (25-30?). #2 is clean, nicely maintained, and well stocked with the amenities for a comfortable week of scalloping. The boat dock provides immediate access to the scalloping and fishing in the south end of St. Joe Bay. The screened-in porch is a nice place to just relax and watch the local nature. You can't do anything about the weather, but you can have a panoramic view of it from here. And, the Gulf-side beach access is a nice option for a different view of beautiful sunsets. I hope to be back next year (and many more). It feels like home - only better!
