About the property

3 bedroom 3 bathroom farmhouse in 8 acres

Meydieu is a 19th century farmhouse set in a peaceful location surrounded by picturesque countryside. The house is spacious, cool and bright. There are three en-suite bedrooms, sleeping 6-7. In addition, there is a sofa bed and another shower room. The living area is open plan. The pool is not overlooked and is not shared. There is a small fishing lake about 50m from the house.

Meydieu is set in about 8 acres. The garden is about 3 acres, mostly grass with a number of trees including peach, pear, hazelnut and walnut. There are terraces on three sides of the house. The lake is not owned by us, but our guests are permitted to use it for fishing. Meydieu has 200 sq m of accommodation on two levels . The house is ideal for six people, but can easily accommodate up to nine. Ground floor; Bedroom with king size bed. En-suite shower room with hand basin, bidet and WC. Spacious open plan lounge with wood burning fire and three piece suite. For the colder months we have under floor heating. Dining area with pine table which easily seats ten. Well equipped kitchen with modern oak units and granite worktops. Separate shower room with hand basin, and WC.

First floor; Bedroom 2 with double four-poster bed and single bed. The single bed could be moved to bedroom 3 if required. En-suite Bathroom with separate shower, hand basin, bidet and WC.

Bedroom 3 with double bed. En-suite shower room with hand basin, bidet and WC. Large landing with sofa bed.

Beautiful, secluded home from home in the French countryside.

Meydieu is an excellent property with every item in the property that you could possibly require and more. It is in a lovely private setting.

Our only problem was that the pool was unusable due to a fault but the owner ensured that he contacted us to apologise and also ensured he sent local friends in the area to explain and assist.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your understanding. I hope the problem with the pool didn't interfere with your holiday too much. Thank you too for leaving Meydieu in such a good state. My wife says the house was spotless.

Stunning private property, in peaceful location with views to die for.

We have travelled through SW France for the last 10-12 years and this is without doubt the best property it has been our pleasure to stay in. Meydieu is spacious,. private and tranquil. It is fully equipped with everything you could think off or possibly need for your holiday. The views from all aspects are picturesque. I write this review grudgingly because I would prefer to keep this place to myself. It was the perfect tonic for my wife and I who enjoyed exploring the surrounding countryside on long walks, always seeming to finish with coffee at the portugese bar in Monbahus before the short walk home. 0r cycling around the Bastide towns in the vicinity while our two adult sons chilled at the pool. For exploring, Bergerac is only 40 mins by car, Bordeaux 11/2 hrs, while locally the Bastide towns of Monflanquin and Villereal are only about 12miles or so and Villeneuve sur Lot 15 miles. We had an excellent holiday doing as much or as little as the notion took us and would love to return sometime in the future for more of the same.

Thank you John for allowing us to stay in your lovely home. Everything was perfect - the house, the pool and the weather. The only sadness was having to leave. We would love to stay again!

Beautiful property, stunning location and perfect for families.

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 3 week stay at Meydieu. Having stayed in the areas many times and at some very nice properties previously, this was by far the nicest house for many reasons :-The location was absolutely stunning, quiet but not isolated, the house was very well laid out having 3 en-suite bathrooms and the sitting room, dining areas and kitchen were perfect for a family, ( we were 4 adults and 1 child).

We are very keen home cooks and the kichen was adequately 'stocked', with pots and pans enough to allow us to conjour up' al fresco' suppers each evening, sitting on the terrace, with a superb bottle of White Wine.

Amazing wildlife to see ,both around the house and by the lake - Deer, Hare, Hoopoe and Coypu !!!!

The pool was perfect and a good size. Often pools tend to be a bit on the small side at holiday homes, but this was excellent and was given the thumbs up by our 9 year old who swims for a club squad and carried on with his training of 150 lengths every day !!!

Great villages and towns to vist locally, amazing bakery in Monbahus, fresh bread and croissants every morning and 2 lovely restaurants in Saint Pastour and Lauzan ( both 15 min drive away)

All in All a perfect rental.

Thank You.

beautiful french farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Meydieu for the first 2 weeks in June, we were late arriving due to French diversions (2 hrs) this did not matter Brian and Angie had left a very nice welcome pack and as soon as you arrived at the property you knew it was going to be good. The farmhouse is even better than the pics and the pool and gardens are wonderful. It is comfortable and very clean with everything you can think of and more ! Mark spent a very happy 2 wks fishing in the lake and catching a lot of fish when he wasn't watching the coypu. When midway through the stay Brian and Angie came to clean the pool and cut the grass they were more than helpful when I asked about places on the Sunday even ringing us with idea's Thankyou again. John checked in with us on the Sunday after our arrival in case we needed anything which is something we have never received before and was much appreciated. I spent a very enjoyable time watching the wildlife , The Hare and the baby frogs plus the bats are wonderful. After holidaying in France for nearly 20years we count this as a find ! And yes we will be back. Janette Durrant

Owner's Response: I'm sorry, but I just noticed that my response didn't get posted. Perhaps I pressed the wrong button. In any case I'd like to thank you belatedly for such a lovely review. Thank you too for taking good care of our house. We've tried hard to make a place where our guests will like spending time , and we're very happy when our guests enjoy their stays. We hope to see you back at Meydieu some day.

Another brilliant holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Our second visit to Meydieu and every bit as perfect as last summer. Everything about Meydieu is superb - a real home from home. A very well appointed house with everything you would ever need when self catering. The grounds are extensive and afford privacy,, peace and quiet. Lots of great places to visit within an easy drive. The furthest we travelled was to the Lescaux caves at Montignac although within 30 mins you can be at several picturesque villages.

Highly recommended!

The village has all the essentials two mini markets, one with a bakers, a garage and a post office. There is a Portuguese bar restaurant, a useful place to stop for a drink after a hard days sight seeing. The nearest town of any size is Cancon, about 5 miles away. They have some larger shops, a couple of restaurants and a bank. Villeneuve–sur-Lot is about 17 miles away and has two retail parks with all the usual large French stores, Leclerc, Auchan etc.

In the immediate vicinity, there are golf courses at Tombeboeuf (9 holes) 6 miles away and a superb course at Castlenaud 10 miles away.

Lougratte has a swimming beach with picnic area and café. There is a play area and there are pedalos and canoes for hire.

Meydieu is located between the Lot and Dordogne rivers. All the normal river activities are catered for such as boat trips and canoe hire.

Monbahus, though not a bastide town itself, is on the “Circuit des Bastides” and many are nearby including Castillones, Monflanquin, Castlenaud and Villereal.
